"Whoever wins, we lose."

How very, very true.

Not since THE PUNISHER's tagline ("On such-and-such-a-date the punishment begins") has there been such an appropriate summary of an upcoming release.

The director of this "film" is Paul W.S. Anderson. I need say no more.

Loomy, Loomy, Loomy.

I take it you're not a fan of Anderson's work then? You've either been brainwashed by Ain't It Cool News of you are Harry "Ginger Nuts" Knowles :)

His films aren't that bad. Event Horizion and Soldier are both bloody good. Even Resident Evil is watchable.

Roll on Alien vs Predator

Hey, I love cheese: ROLLERBALL is one of my favourite "guilty pleasures" (that's the McTiernan version, BTW, not Norman Jewison's original), I'm into the works of Sylvester Stallone to a degree that's almost frightening, and I'm about to tuck into Bruce Lee's GAME OF DEATH. You can't get me on that one. :)

taxman2001, it is true that Harry Knowles seems to hate Paul W.S. Anderson with a passion. He's the Jim to Anderson's Brosnan, perhaps. But with right on his side, I feel.

If I want to watch a film by someone called Paul Anderson, I'll take the likes of BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA, ta very much. :)

I've watched this film linger in "development hell" for a long time now, and it went from director to director and script to script. But now that it's off the ground, I suppose my biggest fear is the dilution of the two franchises. I'm not crazy about Aliens, but Predator is a character I grew up with and is still suitably chilling. I'm hoping this film doesn't bungle both franchises so that they're unrecognizable.

But Paul Anderson, in the interview clip on QuickTime (quicktime.com), he also stated he was a major fan of both franchises, so hopefully he won't do a Joel Schumacher.

I do wish they'd hired back Alan Silvestri over Harald Kloser to do the score though. Silvestri handled the original Predator I and II and that theme still resonates. Kloser is still relatively unproven for me, but I'm hoping for a surprise.

From the trailer, the film looks a little too dark for my liking right now.

I would have liked to have seen Robert Rodriguez's take on the film. Come to think of it, I'd like to see his take on any film.

I can't see the trailer since Quicktime takes too long to download.

Now that would have been something to see. Especially in guessing ways he would have worked in cameos for Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin and Tarantino in there.

I just hope it's better than Predator 2 and Alien 3/4. What score will they use? Predator's or Alien's? I think The Predator theme is indespensible..

Very interesting.

I am also concerned with them mucking up the two franchises, but it looks to be pretty good so far. And Lance Hendriksen's back, so that gives it more of a chance of succeeding in my book.

Wow, I can't believe this piece of rumour mill fluff is actually being made.

Looks cheap n' tacky.

Probably still go to see it... lol.

While MAD MAX 4 has been scrapped, INDIANA JONES 4 has almost certainly been cancelled, and MGM has pulled the plug on JINX and ROCKY VI. There is absolutely no justice in Hollywood. :)

BTW, PREDATOR 2 is one of the worst films ever made. Sat through it a couple of weeks ago and am still recovering. Reasonably good concept, excellent cast (blink and you'll miss Robert Davi, who, like everyone else, is totally wasted), but a total bore. The Predator is laughably un-scary, and the action scenes are absolutely pitiful. No thrills, no suspense, no scares. It's a movie so horribly awful as to make ALIEN RESURRECTION seem as good as McTiernan's original PREDATOR.

Indiana Jons 4 sounded(s) so good, but after all this waiting and years gone by...

PREDATOR is one of the best popcorn films ever so I hope this film offers up some of the fun of the first film. Predator 2 was a disaster! How could thet ruin this franchise so early in the game? :)

versus movies blow....why oh why did they go this route rather than a real Alien film....and then they go and hire someone who sucks as hard as W S Anderson....oi, the man has not made one good film......and if anyone thinks this will "save" the frachises, well all four Alien films rock and the only good Predator film is the first one...there is no reason for two unrelated franchises to co-mingle....

PREDATOR is smarter and all around physically superior than the Alien so how is this supposed to be a contest? :)

versus movies blow....

Yeah, and they always cop out by ending in a draw. Look at FREDDY VS. JASON, for instance.

Is anyone really dumb enough to believe that the outcome of ALIEN VS. PREDATOR is in doubt? Neither the aliens nor the Predators will "win", and the door will definitely be left open for a sequel. Are there really morons out there saying to each other, "Gee, I can't wait to see whether the aliens will whup the Predators or vice-versa"?

Actually, Anderson has publicly stated that there is a definite winner. And I don't think it's the humans, if that's what you're thinking.

You can look at the trailers for them and just see they'll be bad. Never got into the "versus" films much.

Has he? Well, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of alternate endings, different versions of the film for DVD, etc.

Regardless, I think ALIEN VS. PREDATOR will be one of the crappiest pictures of the year, but I'll stop raining on the parade of people looking forward to it. :)

So do I think it won't be a huge hit, but films sometimes prove me wrong.

Is it true that whoever wins has to take on E.T. and his breed? Or is this best of five?

I heard it was going to be a round robin tournament at one point. :)

The trailer looks decent but it would appear that the Predators now come in Super Deluxe Jumbo Size. Either that or most of the humans in the film are around 5'2.

No, they take on the Wookiees in Episode 3 next year, I believe. Either that or the aliens from Independence Day.
