Casino Royale is about the villainous Le Chiffre, who is trying to win at Casino Royale to pay SMERSH back money that he misused. This is a good plot, but not really as evolving as other Bond films. What if the story went something like this?

Le Chiffre is part of a world wide crime syndicate called [Insert Here] He has been payed an astronomical sum of money to recruit members into the organization in the US, but he steals most of it to invest in a drug smuggling scam. He pays the organization back with their money with various loans from enemy criminal organizations. Over time, he opens a serious of brothels and clubs across France and Europe, with getting [] involved. When the organization finds out, they start a campaign to kill him if he can't pay them back all of the money that he stole, plus interest, so he goes to Casino Royale to try and win all of it back.

James Bond is assigned the case to try and stop him from winning, so that he is liquidated, and then using his assassins as leads into the organization. M has feelings that the organization is responsible for the theft of [A disk containing a list of all double-o agents stationed in the United States, Eastern Asia, and Europe] The first 1/3 of the movie features James being reunited with Felix Leiter, meets Vesper Lynd, and goes through the necessary spy precautions, monitoring Le Chiffre at the casino etc. While in a restaurant dining with Felix, a man with a professional camera aims at James' table. The long lens shoots out and is actually a small explosive. 007 chases after the assassin, who enters a phone booth and disappears. James goes in to begin to gamble, inevitably beating Le Chiffre, and marking himself for death. Vesper, who is an MI6 courier, retrieves the check, and starts to head back to London. But when a bomb goes off at the airport, James goes to find Vesper, but she is gone. A car chase ensues with the Aston Martin from his resort en route to the airport, and ends inside of one of the terminals. Only machine guns are attached to the car. He chases a small plane down the runway, and enters it before it takes off. He is confronted by armed guards.

Surrendering, he is tied to a chair in one of the rear cargo rooms. Le Chiffre walks in with a carpet beater, has James stripped down, and starts to question him as to where Vesper and the check are. James doesn't know, and Le Chiffre continues to beat him with it. James is informed that the plane is heading to the United States, where the disk containing the names is going to be sold to the highest bidder. 007 is half conscious, but can hear the gunshots. The plane is being shot down from the outside. It descends and descends until it lands in a snow field in Northern New York. Le Chiffre is injured, but flees. James comes to when he is being freed by someone dressed in all black. The blue eyes look familiar, but the rest of the face is covered. He is taken out of the wreck and then knocked out. When he wakes up, he is in a hospital in New York City. Felix Leiter and M are in the hotel with him. They inform him that he's been in a coma for 3 days, and he is badly injured. Le Chiffre has escaped, Vesper is missing, and James has been taken off of the case. James tells M that in two days, he will be fine, and he would like to go on leave. M grants him the request. James tells her and Felix about how he thinks that [ ] saved his life. M tells him to find the list by whatever means necessary. Felix shows James satellite photos of the plane wreck at the time. CIA believes that the auction is going to be held in Niagara.

In 2 days, James is up and running again. He travels to Niagara Falls and meets Q. James' Aston Martin is replaced by a Land Rover Range Stormer. The only features that it has is blastproof cocoon that can protect the car from almost any element. Also, a raft can pop out from underneath the car, so that it can be driven in shallow water. James drives to his cabin in the country, where he sets up his plan. He knows that Felix, as well as CIA forces are stationed around the area. The next day, James goes to a tourist shop, and sees someone who he thought was dead... Vesper! Instead of approaching her, he follows her back to her hotel, curiously called "Royal bed and breakfast" and purchases a room near hers. When she leaves, he enters her room. He places small surveillance equipment around the room, and leaves. When she returns hours later, he listens to her conversation with a guest, it was in Mandarin, and he could barely understand, but he could decipher "behind the falls" and "15 hour." James knew that there was a power plant at the base of the falls, and that the auction the next day was going to be at 3:00 P.M. He called to inform Felix, but his line had been cut. Several people broke into his room and aimed their guns at him. James managed to shoot one of them in the kneecap, and the other in the head, but the other three had him cornered. He was blindfolded and somewhere on an elevator. He knew that it was below ground, because the B&B was only one story. When he was revealed, he was sitting at the head of a table, with Le Chiffre staring straight at him. After moments of suspensful silence, Le Chiffre spoke. He told him that the auction was going to take place in half an hour. The CIA forces have received a call from James saying that the meeting has been moved to Toronto. It's all over. Le Chiffre picks up a gun, aims it at James' head and prepares to pull the trigger. When he does, a gunshot rings out, hitting Le Chiffre in the head. It's from behind James, so he can't see who it is, but he already knows.

007 takes the keys from Le Chiffre, and unlocks his handcuffs, takes the blood-splattered gun, and chases after the assassin, who has the disk. Gunfire rings out from Le Chiffre's bodyguards in the concrete, austere underground lair. James narrowly escapes, and reaches the two elevators. One, carrying the assassin, is already above ground. James catches the other one and races through the lobby of the hotel, then gets to his car. He enters it and chases after the assassin, who's on foot. Alongside the river, she jumps into a boat, escaping. James drives into the shallow bank, and activates the rubber raft. The boat floats down the river, with James only able to make slight changes in it's trajectory. The assailant, begins to shoot at him. James activates the cocoon, and can see the outside through CCTV. James uses his cellular phone to call Felix. He says that the CIA should be overhead with helicopters now, ready to shoot the assassin. James speeds along, aware that the boat is approaching the edge of the falls. The speedboat speeds ahead at full throttle. The assassin is shot in the chest just as the boat goes over the edge. Felix's helicopter pulls beside James's car, telling him to get out. James voluntarily goes over the edge, bracing himself for the force of impact. He is jolted when the car hits, but he climbs out and swims to shore, behind the falls. He sees the assassin laying there calmly. Instead of drawing his gun, he takes off the mask, revealing Vesper Lynd. Her mouth is filled with blood. She apologizes, and tells him that she's a member of [ ]. She was sent to kill Le Chiffre, and recover the list, so she joined the service. Over the course of the mission, she fell in love with James, which is why she saved his life at the plane wreck. She attempts to pull the disk out of her pocket, but James draws his gun. She hands him the disk, and asks for the gun, so that she can kill herself. James hands it to her. She holds it to her temple, and prepares to pull the trigger, but then points the gun at Bond. With a smile on her face she pulls the trigger, but there are no bullets. She pulls again and again, completely in shock that he has tricked her. He pulls out his PPK, and shoots her, twice. He pockets the disk, and walks away. Felix and a few CIA members on a boat approach him near shore. He tells them that he has the disk, and that the assassin was Vesper. He adds that the "Bitch is dead." In the final scene, it cuts to a rear shot of someone sitting in a tall chair addressing a panel of subordinates sitting around a conference table. The person can't be seen, and the voice is distorted. The voice tells them that "The mission to kill Le Chiffre was accomplished, but the mole in MI6 was killed. James Bond is alive, and must be taken care of. He has the list, and has completely humiliated the organization. Some of our biggest clients were captured at Niagara. I am hereby starting a campaign to murder James Bond. Make it a success, and make it amusing. I want it to be something so memorable. Let the games begin."

The 2nd entry, presumably with a new actor could take place after this one, where a campaign to kill James Bond is underway. I think that the Union Trilogy by Raymond Benson should be adapted. I wasn't really a fan of HTTK, but the whole idea of Le Gerant and certain parts of the novel can be used. What do you think about it.

Other than High Time To Kill I found the whole Union Triology rather lame. I thought Le Gerant was uninspiring as a villian and certainly no Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I'd go for Casino Royale to lead into High Time To Kill but with a different organization/master villain. It is time Bond had a villain who lasted a few films again. It shouldn't be too hard to come up with one, afterall Bond villains are the archtype for such fellows. And theirs a few good names still floating out there, Guntram Shatterhand, Von Hammerstein. No reason these guys couldn't be criminal masterminds that taunt Bond for a three film arc.

Perhaps, I'd like to see a much older villain, Le Chiffre should be rather older.

The Le Chiffre I pictured in the novel was a short, toad like man, sort of like the one seen in the television special. If the story was updated a bit, I would like to see an altered version of James Bond. (Similar age, height, build, personality.)

I'd want the character from the novel, no matter when the film would be made. Lorre's interpretation was quite good.
