In TND, for approximately 13 minutes, we are seeing Paris Carver, the wife of Elliott Carver played by Teri Hatcher.
Critics about her have been very mixed up and I'd like to get the opinions of fan.
Was she a mess?
Was she great?
What about her lines "Did I get too close for... comfort?"

If you want a really great discussion on Paris Carver take a look at this thread. It was started by Zencat and I must say its one of the best suggestions I've ever read on these forums.

And please don't discuss it here, discuss it in its own thread :)

Well...what to say about Paris Carver:

I don't know if it was the fault of the writers for not giving us enough time to understand Paris, or if it was the fault of Teri Hatcher for not communicating the necessary details to the viewers, but when Paris looks at Bond and says "Did I get too close, did I get too close for comfort?" and Bond says "Yes," there is nothing in the character Paris Carver to justify that yes.

Nothing in Paris Carver reveals (to me) a woman that could get under Bond's skin that much, that quickly.

Sorry Carver...maybe you care to fill us in on what we missed.

I will really enjoy that when you write it! At last -- sense of the nonsense!

I think it was a weak attempt to create a past love for Bond, but with weak characterization, bad dialogue and a not so good actress with Hatcher...I didn't buy that this was a woman Bond had fallen in love with and left...didn't buy the chemistry....

I think Pola Ivanov was the best 'previous-Bond-girl-that-Eon-just-made-up-for-the-present-film' girl because she had the best line: 'Oh! The bubbles! They tickle my--Tchaikovski!' ;D Classic.

I think the think about Paris 'getting to' Bond in the hotel was that he was drunk. Also if a beautiful woman suddenly cam into my hotel room and wanted to make love...sure! Why not? Bond isn't exactly picky about women: the casting director makes sure they're sexy enough.

For me, the character didn't really stick. Sure she was on the video cover, but she was easily forgettable. From the very Paris intro scene I could tell that she'd be the sacrificial lamb.
I hate the dialogue too;

'Did I get too close...Did I get too close for...comfort..?'

Nah. Bye-Bye!

The character was good but the dialogue a little cheesy. The character was needed but the actress Teri Hatcher was absolutely ****, in my opinion.

I might be in the minority

The problem with Paris, in one word: UNDERUSED. Her part was too brief, too perfunctory; she should have been in the film for a longer period of time, and we should have been able to see Carver's jealousy, resentment, and suspicion grow. We should have also been able to watch Bond rekindle his feelings for Paris, and have a true reason to avenge her after she's killed. The character had great potential, but it was just never reached.
