Jaclyn Smith (one of the original Charlie's Angels) looked striking back in the early 80's. I think that she would have made a good Octopussy. Maud Adams was servicable, and exhibited great chemistry with Moore, but I would have preferred to have that ex-Angel than Tanya Roberts in the next film. What do you think?

Ah, Jaclyn Smith. My favorite Charlie's Angel. However, I don't think she would have been right for Octopussy. Maud Adams just seemed to be born for that role. However, I think Jaclyn would have made a great Dr. Holly Goodhead even though I like her fellow Texan Lois Chiles in the role just fine.

I think that Jaclyn Smith would have been a very good Octopussy. That's not to say that I thought that Maud Adams was serviceable. In fact, I like her a lot in that role and also as Andrea Anders in TMWTGG.

Jaclyn still looks striking and I would be quite happy to see her in Bond 21. Perhaps portraying a character similar to that of Octopussy?

That is quite funny, as I said the same thing on AJB in a thread about Charlie's Angels. Jaclyn was easily the best and most beautiful (moreso even than Farrah) and would have made a gorgeous Octopussy, even though I still think Maud Adams was excellent in the role.

As was said by Moore Not Less, Jaclyn still looks amazing now having seen her cameo in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and could easily be a more mature Bond woman in Bond 21. Sadly, I doubt it will happen.

Who else was in the running for the part of Octopussy?

It always confused me as a kid, seeing Maud Adams again.

I never really could imagine someone else playing Octopussy, of all the Roger Moore Bond leading ladies, I truly think herself and Roger shared the best on and off screen chemistry during the making of that film. A perfect cast.

Who else was in the running for the part of Octopussy?

Faye Dunaway, Persis Khambatta(Star Trek:The Motion Picture and Sybil Danning were also contenders for the role.

007forever has a good link about this-

IMHO, the casting of Miss Dunaway would have only worked if Octopussy turned out to be a villainess. As it was written, I'm glad Maud got the role.

Can't disagree with that. I'm rather glad the way the character Octopussy turned out in the film, and Maud made the role sparkle.

Dunaway would be most definitely be a good choice also though, I see.

I just can't picture Jaclyn Smith in the role of Octopussy. I don't see her as the daughter of a British Army Major named Dexter Smythe or the leader of jewel-smuggling members of an Octopus cult. That's not to say that I dislike Jaclyn. I think she did a great job on The Bourne Identity television movie with Richard Chamberlain.

I could see Jaclyn as either Holly Goodhead or Octopussy. I couldn't see Sybil Danning, who I love, as Octopussy but, I could see her as Magda, the role Kristina Wayborn played in the same film.

I agree. Maud Adams was perfectly cast for the role, but when I saw Smith's cameo in Charlies Angels: Full Throttle recently, I noticed how much she resembles Maud. It would be easy to imagine her in the role, the one thing that Maud has that Jaclyn doesn't is that exotic look, like her name could actually be "Octopussy."

I do agree with PrinceKamalKhan when he says that Faye Dunaway should have got the part if Octopussy was made into the villainess.

I would have loved to have seen Jaclyn Smith in AVTAK, because she's got a lot more appeal then Tanya Roberts. Maud Adams was doing fine in Octopussy.

That's a good point, chimera01. Jaclyn would have been more credible as a geologist and as a Bond woman. Can you imagine her screaming "James! James! Don't leave me"?

Jacyln Smythe in all honesty, I could imagine her as the American CIA agent Holly Goodhead rather than Octopussy. The only other actress that I could picture as Octopussy other than Maud Adams is Wonder Woman Lynda Carter.

Faye Dunaway would have been a casting coup. She's won an Oscar and was coming off the camp classic performance of Mommy Dearest.

Maybe people would have flet she was more suioted to be avillain but in that case Octopussy would have been more of a mystery and less of a push over for Bond.

That being said Jaclyn Smith and any role in a BOnd film from 1977 to today would be welcome.

I'd love a scene of Bond getting called asked to report to HQ. He tells them he'll be there soon he's just visitng an "old" teacher of his from Primary school. Camera pulls back to reveal Jackln laying across a teachers classroom desk with nothing covering her except a Union Jack Flag.

That would be worht my $10.

She was stunning. I would have liked to see her play a spy, a sort of Emma Peel in tight zip-up leather!

I ran into her at Houston Hobby Airport about 10 years ago. She was the first one to get off of a plane and was on the same flight as a client I was picking up at the airport. As she entered the causeway I was stunned by her good looks, she gave me a quick smile as she quickly walked by. I didn't even know it was her. My contact later told me that Jaclyn Smith was on the plane. She was in Houston pushing a line a clothing she had for K-Mart.

Jacyln Smyth is of course gorgeous, dynamic and, in short, just perfect for "Charlie's Angels", but NOT, for me as Octopussy. Maud Adams is more sensual, fragile, enigmatic and at the same time delicate. The perfect personality able to charm "Roger" Bond.

I would have rather seen Jaclyn Smith as an intelligent and attractive henchwoman...

I am glad that Maud Adams played OCTOPUSSY because I think Adams is simply incredible looking - easily one of the most beautiful of all the Bond girls.

Faye Dunaway is a great actress and I saw her in many movies, especially she was good in Bonnie and Clyde, but I can't picture her as a Bond girl. Now Jacklyn Smith to me is another story. Maybe it's just personal preference, and I like the latter better. :)

Jaclyn Smith would have been a great bond girl period. I don't think she could top Maud Adams, but she'ld come very close. If Maud didn't do it, thats who I would want to play Octopussy.

Faye Dunaway as a Bond girl villainess?

"NO MORE WIRE HANG-GLIDERS!!!!"

But it's funny this thread was made. When I was a kid, seeing "Octopussy" for the first time in a theater, I swore that was Jacklyn Smith who turned around to greet Bond.

I caught Jaclyn Smith in The Bourne Identity mini series not so long ago, and she is almost identical to Maud Adams! Even her voice matches. I think she would have been great, although Maud was justy fine.
