Does anyone have this CD? It was released in 1992 and 1994 with Bassey singing 12 Bond songs. It was withdrawn when brought suit for it being released without her consent. Here's an article about it:

I had read about this CD in another thread and had previously never heard about it.

With the legal action described, it's no wonder I had never heard of it before, too bad though, I would have loved to hear how she did the songs, without the constraints of the main title sequences, and in her own way.

I have a copy of it on cassette. It's not as bad as everyone has made it out to be, but it's still not great.

It was moi in the post entitled Bond Music Cover Versions. I posted the following:

And I'm suprised that no-one has mention the Bond cover album by Shirley Bassey. Called The Bond Collection - The 30th Anniversary it was released in 1992 and has Shirley belting out the following:

  • A View To A Kill
  • Nobody Does It Better
  • From Russia With Love
  • We Have All The Time In The World
  • You Only Live Twice
  • Diamonds Are Forever
  • Live And Let Die
  • Moonraker
  • For Your Eyes Only
  • All Time High
  • Thunderball
  • Goldfinger
Alas it would appear that the CD is out of print. Unless Britannia Music Club are still trying to offload it on punters like me ...

I must admit that I haven't listened to the CD for years (since I first bought it in 1992 even though it's taking up space on my MP3 player. I'll listen to it tomorrow so any questions let me know ...

If you'll be listening to it, or anyone that has it, how does Moonraker sound on it? That's the one I'm most interested in, is it better/worse than the original version?

I, too, have a casette copy, compliments of a BCW-LAS VEGAS.

I recently burned to CD. It's fun. The originals go for quite a few bucks when they pop up on Ebay.

I'm listening to both versions now.

The original (from the 30th Anniversary Best Of Bond 2-disc Collection) is slightly shorter at 3 minutes and 9 seconds but is far superior.

The version on the Shirley Bassey Bond Collection is very (and I do mean VERY) sythn based. In fact the track is just basically Shirley and some bloke on a very tuneless keyboard. In fact I think it could be the same bloke who used to sit in the main shopping centre precinct in Southampton (in all weathers) playing his 20 year old Yamaha organ one finger at a time. But only when he wasn't howling at the moon ...

Oh, well, I guess I'm glad that the better version is the more common one then. :)

Still, I'm now very curious to hear this one, along with all the others now.

Hypothetical question scenerio ...

Since the CD has been withdrawn could I copy it for someone and not be prosecuted if I did not charge for it?

Sub-hypthetical question: could I do that for any CD?

Just curious ...

In a case where a CD goes out of print, the rights get transfered from the record label holder and probably revert back to the composer or the studio (or music artist/band). An out of print CD would still have a copyright holder.

You had this and didn't even know it's rarity! :)

I wanted to bid on it, but not at this price.

I read Bassey said that the version of Moonraker on this album is 'gentlier' than the original! If anyone on the planet knows of a more gentle song than the original Moonraker get in touch with me!!
