In an exclusive interview on CommanderBond.net, former James Bond continuation author, Raymond Benson, revealed the existence of a never published James Bond short story, "The Heart of Erzulie." Says Benson, "There was another Bond short story I wrote in-between Never Dream of Dying and (The Man With The Red) Tattoo. It wasn

I read about this in part 3 of the Benson interview and would very much like to read it. Do you think if enough fans show interest he'll give it a re-write and release it as an e-book?

I'd LOVE to see that happen. Hell, go with the 1000 print run for all I care, just publish it, there are fans out there that would love to see this sort of material for sale! Include it with the short stories and release a compilation, that would make it all the more better.
I eagerly await the day when this sees the light of day. #4Posted 12 April 2004 - 02:48 PM
Unfortunately IFP holds the copyright on the short story so I don't think there's anyway he could publish it on his own. (And I'm sure it's not "bad" at all. I think RB is being overly modest and, frankly, I don't think I trust the new IFP to judge what's "Bond" and what isn't.)
But Raymond's memoirs...that's a different matter. I think with some encouragement this could be published. #5Posted 12 April 2004 - 02:51 PM
If IFP got their heads together then they'd get Benson to refine this story and then release and anthology of all his shorts. Give them something to do between now and that "thing" next year wouldn't it?

He'd definitely find encouragment from myself, and I'm sure a lot of other fans as well. I bet it's very interesting reading, kind of his own Thrilling Cities.

To be honest, I'd rather see a short story volume than read Benson's memoirs. That sort of thing just doesn't interest me, but I know that quite a few people would want to read them.

Let's not get too excited right now. The people in charge at IFP aren't exactly playing with a full deck when it comes to Bond. I am not even sure they know what Bond is anymore.

Very good point, Chandler.
It is all taste Tanger, I think a whole compilation of the memoirs and short stories would really make it worth publication. #10Posted 12 April 2004 - 10:52 PM
I personally would rather see the memoirs than this short story.
#11Posted 13 April 2004 - 12:00 AM
I'm sure it's not as bad as he says, I'm sure it'd be a good bit of writing, and I'd love to see this one day.
Seriously, the four short stories and his memoris would be a fair and substantial page amount to warrant a compilation of them being published for sale. I'd love it. #12Posted 13 April 2004 - 01:56 AM
I'd buy a copy of his Bond memoirs, with or without this short story.
#13Posted 13 April 2004 - 05:18 AM
I have been somewhat critical of Benson, but I would like to read his memoirs to get a better understanding of the kind of experience it was.
#14Posted 13 April 2004 - 10:45 PM
I've read parts of this memoirs. Specially the trip in wich I was involved but some of the other trips too (not all of them).
And I suppose there will be other parts with all the researches for the James Bond bedside companion. And the interviews with Amis and Gardner!! The small parts I have read are really fascinating and I wish I could read them all one day. And I would die to read that short story too!! #15Posted 13 April 2004 - 10:49 PM Yikes! It can't be that good. #16Posted 13 April 2004 - 10:55 PM Oh yes it could be!Yikes! It can't be that good. #17Posted 14 April 2004 - 08:14 AM
I wonder if the short stroy was period set or in continuation with the rest of his novels?

[you could go pro] #21Posted 14 April 2004 - 11:52 AM lol, I don't know about that. Besides, I don't want to put Evan out of a job #22Posted 14 April 2004 - 02:17 PM
unless it just comes out as fan fiction, I doubt IFP will ever print it, which is a shame, cause I'd pony up money for it before the little Jimmy stories...
#23Posted 14 April 2004 - 02:40 PM That's what is scary, that it hardly required any work at all from you. (In other words, great job.) #24Posted 14 April 2004 - 03:37 PM Really nice work, Icephoniex! I added it to the story (and gave you a credit) #25Posted 14 April 2004 - 03:37 PM

I think it's just as well the story wasn't published. Authors generally don't like to criticize their own work and Mr. Benson's comments seem to go beyond being just modest.

Just thought I'd bump this up for interested readers.

i've always wondered why they havent released a Benson short stroy collection... I was hoping that they might have put them at the end of his last novel, but obviusly that just wasnt to be
