Sophie Ellis Bextor to sing the title song of Bond 20

"Pierce Brosnan will be annoyed at Sophie Ellis Bextor, who was in talks to get an important role in the next James Bond Movie, but he can solace himself, because Sohie will sing the title song of the next, yet-untitled James Bond movie."
Well, great news, aren't it?

I don't think they will ever do an instermental theme, again. It's not a bad idea, but I doubt Mickey G. and Babs would ever buy it. And while artist like Aaliyah, U2 and even maybe Sophie Ellis Bextor would probably create fantastic themes and possibly bring a few of their fans in to the theater, Shirley Bassey would bring Bond fans in to the theater. The kind of fans like my father who really stopped paying attention to Bond some where between the late Moore era and the Dalton era. Tom Jones may have some of the same effect to a diminished extent, but I feel Shirley would be the best for this. Sheena Easton maybe second.
And by the way Parasyte, I completed the 'SB' from your quote because I shortened what you said and had taken the 'SB' out of context, not because I have some problem with using initials.

10 minutes ago I zapped thorugh TV and saw the German version of "Top of The Pops". The presentator, a guy called Ole Tillmann, announced British popstar Sophie Ellis Bextor with these words:
"Pierce Brosnan will be annoyed at Sophie Ellis Bextor, who was in talks to get an important role in the next James Bond Movie, but he can solace himself, because Sohie will sing the title song of the next, yet-untitled James Bond movie."

It's probably erroneous. The singer of the title song usually isn't even decided until after shooting is completed. Last year it wasn't announced until August.
And I have no idea who Sophie Ellis-Bextor is, to be honest. I should think they'd get someone really great to do it for the big milestone.

She is a boring, posh bint who can't dance let alone act - she got lucky with Spiller who needed some vocals slapping on their Groovejet track.
Performance wise, she looks about as interested and excited as someone doing the ironing. In fact, stick an ironing board behind the microphone on stage and there would be more dynamic movement.
Her "album deal" was squeezed out of some Italian financier who liked the Spiller track, which let's be honest, would have got to number 1 without any vocals anyway.

You only have to read snippets of her official website to see how far it's been rammed up her:
"At just 22, she is a veteran in today's ever-changing music scene"
"As sophisticated front woman in sharp-suited indie-popsters theaudience, she earned the approval of the style cognoscenti"
It goes on to compare her work against "Madonna's finest" etc!!!
If you have a strong stomach, you can read the rest of the gumph at:
http://www.sophieell...ut_me/index.htm
Be warned though, you might lose your lunch.
What annoys me most is how she is screwing every last piece of media coverage out of her failed attampt to land an acting role in Bond 20. I hope EON come out and deny this rumour swiftly, she is tarnishing the reptutatoin of Bond music!

...So let me post this from the Bond20.com Forums, even if Mr* becomes angry...
Not angry really, I just think it seems a tad rude. I don't mind when people quote news articles from other sites, but just stealing entire posts from another forum, why not discuss it there? And if you want to know what we think a synopsis, maybe with small quote of a sentence, and possibly a link to their thread (although I don't know how Blue Eyes or Dave would feel about that) would be more polite and ethical.

Personally I have a thing about Bond artists defining the ear that the Bond song was realeased in like Sheena Easton, Duran Duran, Ah Ha all defined the 80's and Wings, Lulu, Carley Simon great 70's artists. But then look at the 90's Tina Turner! Only Garbage define the 90's. Sheryl Crow was a bad choice for me as she wasn't a classic 90's act (like Rita Coolridge isn't a well known 80's act).
We need someone who says 2000!! But that's just my opinion... but Shirley will be a great choice as she ascends generations because she IS Bond! Tom Jones could do the same too.
Here endeth my rant.

...S[hirley ]B[assey] isnt right these days...
Shirley is perfect for what is needed today. This is the 20th Bond film, 40th anniversary of the James Bond films, the 50th anniversary of when Ian Fleming (you've heard of him right?) first put the name James Bond on paper. A bit of the nod to the past with the right amount of modern funk is what this title song--and film for that matter--needs to put the old Bond fans back in the seats while keeping the new audience's butts firmly in their cushions next to them. And if you don't think 'SB' is right for today, go listen to the Proppellerheads' 'History Repeating' and then we'll talk.

As for Savage Garden... learn summat every day. I still think a re-worked Bopnd Theme over the credits would be best, and if that went on single, it should fly through the roof in sales.

And I'd like to say for the record that Jamiroquai would be a bad choice for an artist for a Bond theme - COME ON, JAMIROQUAI..... I don't think so! They don't have the right assets to perform a Bond theme. I suggest....... Robbie Williams, Tom Jones or maybe even Ronan Keating.
But I must add... it's about time that a male artist got to sing the main theme to a Bond film. EON must find a male artist for Bond 20. Let's face it the last two themes weren't actually brilliant weren't they? The best artist from the Brosnan films so far in my opinion is Tina Turner with Goldeneye.

what do you mean COME ON, JAMIROQUAI. Jamiroquai are the biggest selling UK artists of the past decade second only to Oasis, they are an absolutely astonishing band full of fantastic musicians and lead singer JK has the most unique voice you'll find anywhere they would produce an absolutely mind-blowing track which would boosts Bonds credibility 20,000,000 times as much as keating. They're latest album wen to no.1 in 15 different countries it was at no.1 in the UK for 8 weeks, its been no.1 in Oz for the past 8 weeks and was previously at no.1 there for 3 weeks, they are in The Guiness Book of Records for the Biggest selling Funk Album of all time, they've won 5 grammy's etc etc, need I say more, THEY are credentials and they are the credentials that would gaurantee a frickin awesome theme.

Sorry, Parasyte. That one was a bit mean, but please know I don't intended it to be personal (and I was on a role). Sarcasm is in my nature and I imagine there are a couple of forum users that are wondering why Mister Asterix's panties are in a bunch today. I do respect yours and others opinions on these issues, but that's not going to stop from trying to e-cram my opinions down your throats.

Let's not forget Tom has ressurected his "cool" status with the "youff" of today with his Reloaded album featuring work with a lot of top fashionable artisists.
I'd prefer Tom to Shirley. It's about time Brozzy had a theme with a male vocalist.

I'm not saying go bac, but I never liked Shirley (better?). Tom Jones maybe, but I honestly think that an instrumental could be good, and seeing as you said re-visiting the old, you cant get much older than Dr. No. Hey.. .what about a reworked 007 Theme to be played over... very Dr. No-stylee, and a nice change aswell.

Hey guys, Miles Dalen here again.
Life is Expendable WILL be the new Bond title. Maybe Eon could have come up with a better title, but you all seemed happy enough when Bond twenty was being refered to as Beyond the bloody ice!
Yes, I did notice the initials spell out LIE, but the initials of The World is Not Enough also spell TWINE but that doesnt mean that it has anything to do with fishing wire;much as you would suggest that Life is Expendable is ficticious.
Anyway guys-just had recent new developments on the casting front. Word has it that a certain character whose fate was left ambiguous at the end the film in which he appeared is set to return. The return of none other than Nick Nack-Scaramanga's poison dwarf from TMWTGG is set to return, with teen soap star joshua jackson taking the late Herve Villechaise's place. Rumour also has it that a View to a kill esque set piece set aboard a huge flying airship complete with death trap stairslaundry shhot will also feature.
All the best guys.
Dalen, Miles.
I hate nothing more than rumours beeing set up by a fictional person...

Sorry Mr Moon, but recent success alone does not make them "right for Bond" - they need to fit into the feel of the series. Unfortunately in my books, they don't.
I'm listed as one of the "top 100 men of the web" - but do you see EON phoning me to offer me a job? No.

I love Tom Jones. Fantasic and powerful voice. If he were to do another Bond theme Bond 20 should be it. I would probably rate the Welshman above Shirley Bassey on a list of favourite singers. However, I will always feel that Miss Bassey is the best choice for Bond 20. When Bond 21 gets into production I will probably be throwing out names like Soundgarden, Metallica, or Dido, but for this outing if I could sit down with Mickey G. or Babs I'd tell them they'd be idiots not to get Shirley back in front of the microphone.
