I think that bond movies should remain british and not include all these american agents and women in the movies.

AND MAY I ADD I AM A PROUD AMERICAN AND STILL THINK THIS.

Generally I agree. However, we should keep in mind that Fleming's Bond novels had a great deal of "Americanization" in them. In fact TSWLM takes place in a seedy upstate New York motel.

But yes, it's not Bond if it's not British.

As an American I agree.

Bond films are supposed to be exotic in both settings and characters.

Why not hire someone like Salma Hayek who is known in America but not American?

How about really Americanizing Bond, reinventing the franchise "from the ground up" for Bond Actor 6?

*Imagines future DVD cover blurb*

In the early years of the 21st century, the United States and one of its closest allies, the United Kingdom, created an espionage organisation to counter threats to global security. Based in Los Angeles and London, and under the command of General Marlon Mortimer, also known as "M" (Morgan Freeman), the new Anglo-American spy agency, MicroGlobe One, has an elite seven-member team of operatives known as the Double-O Section:

There are three American Double-Os: Felix Leiter (Ben Stiller), Nick Nicholson (LL Cool J) and Raymond Benson (Jack Black); and three British Double-Os: Vesper Lynd (Kristin Scott Thomas), John Gardner (Ricky Gervais) and Charles Robinson (Colin Salmon).

But the deadliest of the whole bunch is the half-British, half-American James Bond 007 (Hugh Jackman), the only child of a former British Ambassador to the United States and Monique Delacroix (Vanessa Redgrave), an American citizen of French and Swiss heritage.

Leading the Double-O section on a dangerous mission deep in rural Texas, Bond discovers that his father, Sir Andrew Bond (Ian McKellen), did not die in a climbing accident in Utah, but is involved in a sinister conspiracy to change the world forever. Bond also finds that his fiancee Tracy (Scarlett Johansson), who thinks he's a professor of screenwriting at the University of North Hollywood, is in grave danger, and that there is a traitor within the Double-O Section!

Crammed with awesome action scenes, including an edge-of-seat car chase in Los Angeles, this new thriller from acclaimed director Brett Ratner will blow your socks off!

Actually, they should make James Bond black. Make him the love child of Wesley Snipe and some crack whore. That should really reimagine the whole thing.

Nope, but I think I've described an MGM executive's wet dream. :)

Yes, since DAD the series are being American...

But is not only Bond the one that is being american --- The Pink Panther movie with Steve Martin as Closeau.

Look in DAD - Falco, saying M : "Put your house in order or... we'll have to do it for you".

And now: Bond will battle Osama Ben Le Chiffre :-P, will replace the Beluga Caviar for Hamburguers, will drink a Beer instead of the Vodka Martini, etc, etc..

BOND is BRITISH !!!!

in defense of that line, I've always taken that as a bit of a reaction to the reversed "Special relationship" that the fiction U.S.A and U.K. have in the Bond universe.

Politically speaking the Brits (and some other countries including my own at the moment) have a tendency to be America's lap dogs...

a bit off topic and not intending to start a political debate.

After fighting the big japanese driver in the remake of YOLT,instead of going for the Vodka, Bond will go for a Beer, gulp a big one, wince, then watch the label and say "Budweiser light ? Uhhhh !"

In the remake of TB, before leaving the room in searches in the clinic, Bond will grab one KFC zinger from a nearby plate, and go about eating it with pleasure.

Now, these are the refinements of life.

I think, and I will probably get ripped to shreds here, some Americanization is proper in the James Bond films. Not to the level that EON is going, no. However, if they did the Bond films completely British, we Americans would have no bloody idea half of the things about the movies. Now, should EON pander to Americans in the respect of Bond fighting Terrorists (We have our own Superheroes to do that, thank you,) ,
Spoiler
wearing so much bling-bling that he walks with his head slouched over due to the weight, and listening to rock, rap, hip-hop, trip-hop, country, or even gospel (to keep our President happy) NO! I mean come on, this is a reboot idea, people! I have to say, for this to be a faithful to the novel, reboot, they're really messin up. Just my two cents, take it for whatcha want.

Bond has always fought terrorism (SPECTRE), and this new breed has and will continue to target Britain just as much as America. An appropriate threat for Bond to go up against every now and then, I would say.

And the card game you mentioned has become fairly international, more so than most others.

But I do agree that James Bond should always remain British. Wonder what it will mean to be British in the global economy of the future, however.

Oh you don't know? American Bond will be in Casino Royale, his name was just changed to Jason Bourne so Babs and MGW can make more money

Has to be British!

I'm American but realize that the films gross more worldwide than they do in the US...there's enough Americanized crap out there...growing up watching these films has always inspired me to travel outside the US...

my idea for a long time was to take current events out of the films...take the current date out of the film....music...everything...make it completely stylized to the world that these movies invented...an example is pulp fiction....until harvey keitel arrives in his sports car you didn't know if the movie took place in the late 70s...early 80s or was current....

this way classic retro bases and sets could be used...concept cars that don't exist...gadgets that span time and imagination...

just my idea...it's obvious that the films are not to be taken seriously as true espionage stories...my biggest gripe has been that they follow the template too rigidly...any unsuccessful attempt at change brings them running back home where it's safe...

with so many imitators and movies and characters that have taken from the brillience and originality of the bond franchise..i'd like to see bond continue to pave the way as fun original entertainment....and not be 3rd best at they're own game.

i'll shut up now..
