I'm really stuck on this one, I kept bashing Nightfire mainly because of the multiplayer options....but then when I saw how bad the EoN multiplayer was I realised that nightfire's multiplayer was the right direction!

classic levels and chracters (ok, not many levels, most were inaccurate.....lack of characters....exspecially good guys....and the problem of good vs. evil only)

looking back, it was the kind of multiplayer I'ld like to see EA make, so I can't blame anything there

as for the 1P, nothing was wrong with the story, okay, it wasn't 100% origonal, but few games are. the characters were good and the voices were fine

The only problem that I can recall was that (mostly the older generation of) bond fans think that a bond story is bad if it involves space. now I'm not a supporter of bond going into space myself, in fact I'ld prefer not to see it done again........but does this mean that the entire game sucks?

help me out here, I just can't see what everyone has agianst it

Personally, I loved Nightfire. I have the PS2 version,BTW. I thought it played out just like being in a movie. I thought it was far better than AUF , which seemed a little cheesy to me at times. In fact, as far as the actual game itself, Nightfire is my favorite of all the Bond games. Of course, Goldeneye on N64 is the best overall because of the multi-player element. Nightfire had a good story, good characters with above average voice-acting, and excellent graphics i thought. I also loved the theme song immensely. About the only negative is the multiplayer, but i still find it very enjoyable, even though its not the best i've ever played. I really don't understand either why this game is treated so harshly.

My only problems with Nightfire for the PC (since that's the only one I own) are:

1. After a while, the game turns into just another shootout with the spying and sneaking around restricted to special moves.

2. The final level is way too short and the controls are very sloppy. Plus I think they could have come up with a better line for Drake before the final battle.

3. No driving levels at all, making for a rather predictable playing experience.

I have the same issues with the PC game as Genrewriter.

I was looking forward to the driving levels and was very disappointed when they weren't in the game after seeing them in a hint book for the Playstation version.

I also agree with the sloppy controls during the game's finale. They were so sloppy in fact that I became frustrated and deleted the game off my computer. I was thinking "Fine, knock yourself out Drake. Nuke the Earth from orbit!" :)

The game just wasn't fun anymore on the final level. It's a pity because I was also looking forward to fighting in Zero G. Too bad that the final level was so poorly designed.

The question shouldnt be 'wat was so bad that no one liked', it should be 'what was so good about nightfire?'. The answer is not much. It was just average. Fun to play once, but nothing worth going back for. It was just ok.

I'll tell you what things I didn't like about NightFire...

I HATED IT'S GUTS!
THE MULTIPLAYER'S POOR!
THE GUNS ARE POOR!
THE AI IS POOR!
THE STORY IS POOR!
THE LEVEL DESIGN IS POOR!
THE VOICE ACTING IS POOR! (WHY SPEND MONEY ON BROSNAN'S FACE IF THEY CAN'T USE HIS VOICE??!?)

NIGHTFIRE IS THE EMBODIMENT OF AN AVERAGE EA GAME: POOR!

I love stress relief, don't you?

No offence, but...

THAT'S DEPRESSING!

Don't you have anything else to do with your time? At least play Timesplitters2, or even XIII, with probably the most intelligent bots I've ever seen

(I've never seen a bot hide behind a crate, have you?)

Different strokes for different folks, I thought Timesplitters 2 was rubbish and sold my copy. However really enjoyed Nightfire. It's not just about gameplay, style and mood comes into play with games too.

I loved the console version of Nightfire. It kept me entertained over the Crimbo period of 2002. I still play the multiplayer with my Bro now and again too. We love it. Pity we're a bit rubbish at Co-Op on EoN.

I also gave in and bout the PC version too, just for curiosity value. Worst 9 quid I've ever spent! :)

About the voice acting, Maxwell Caulfield provided the voice for Bond. He was in Grease 2 and can currently be seen in the Uk hospital drama Casualty.

Actually, I am offended by your statement. Who the hell are you to criticize me? If you want to dislike NightFire, fine, I don't really give a crap. But I don't see what's so "depressing" about the fact that I enjoy a video game. And I'll have you know that I do also play Timesplitters 2 and XIII, however, my friends and I enjoy NightFire. Not to mention, it was a SLIGHT exaggeration when I said that we play the game ALL the time...you know, maybe I just meant our FREE TIME (which I thought was a given). You can hardly get good grades in college, nor attend rehearsals for play, or go to dinner and such, if I'm REALLY sitting in my room playing videogames ALL THE TIME. Nor do you seem to be one to talk - first, you spend time here posting, not to mention you seem pretty familiar with videogames yourself. Lastly, you might be a tad disappointed to learn that your standards don't apply for everyone else (thank God).

I liked 'Nightfire' a lot. I thought the Phoenix Ronin machine-gun-in-a-briefcase was one of the coolest weapons I've ever seen in a game. Just set and forget.
The driving levels were pacey. My only problem with it was the first-person perspective, which I've gotten tired of lately. Other than that, 'Nightfire' is a great game.
To each their own.

i liked single player (ps2) and the first 8 levels of the pc version. the multiplayer on pc was horrible. it was like playing a game where you just walk around and kill people over and over again. the challengers are always dumb and can't aim for crap.

the ps2 multiplayer was alright, didn't really like it too much. too small of levels, not enough levels or characters, especially the good guys, and the characters looked horrible (the ones from the movies).

overall, the multiplayer for both wasn't very good, but it was better than EoN's!

Me and my Bro were playing EoN Co-Op and Arena today. We've never been so dissapointed with a Multiplayer game. :)

We'll probably be back playing AUF and NF Deathmatch within a week.

I picked up Nightfire for 20 bucks at Target the other day, and I like it quite a bit. I am stuck on a level trying to climb up a ladder and across a beam without falling off, but it could have been fatigue, because I just said, ":) it," and turned it off after the 10th time falling off the beam. I nailed the first 6 levels the first day, so I don't know what that means. The car and snowmobile chase was cool.

I'm sorry I offended you, JackChase. I was just trying to state that Electronic Arts are not game developers - they are men in suits who tell average game designers what to do, and by adding excellent graphics engines (which they can afford with their mega-budgets) and buying licences like Bond helps to sell a few million units. As you say yourself, you identify me as being familiar with videogames. The truth is, I've been playing them since Sonic The Hedgehog, and I know what a rushed, lazy game is and I can identify one with potential to be a great game.

I am fully aware that my standards do not affect anyone else. I'm glad too - we are all entitled to be individuals, who like individual things. All I'm saying is that I know more about EA than most, and I have grown to dislike them. However, the latest Bond offering, EON, is quite good in comparison to their boring FPS 'efforts'.

If you wish to like Electronic Arts, that's fine. I do not care. You are you. I am I. But you can't tell me that excellent games that have been developed for years are not good. Metal Gear Solid 2 (Konami, 2002) is one of my favourite games, and I consider it to be at least 70% better than anything EA can come up with. And I'm not a football fan, but everyone knows that Pro Evolution Soccer easily beats FIFA hands down in terms of gameplay.

They're after your money. My mission is to protect you, but I can only advise. You have to break the link between your pocket and the moneymakers.

GoldenEye was a Bond game. But even if it wasn't Bond, I'd still play it to death. That was the embodiment of an excellent game.

EA's Bond games are too scripted. They tell the player what to do, rather than go and discover the route themselves.

Your choice, Jack; your choice.

Also, the multiplayer's dreadful in AUF and NF, and now EON has terrible multi.

The EA tradition.

Even Medal of Honor has poor multiplayer.

The problem I have is that all my friends like EA. And whenever I mention it, they take the p!ss out of one of my favourite games, Half-Life. Because it's 6 years old and a bit blocky, they keep calling it 3D Tetris.

DON'T LAUGH!

It gets on my nerves. I can't change them, although they keep pressuring me to play MOH:RS which is a terrible game. Even Frontline was better than that: how can EA go backwards?!

Half-Life is deeply immersing and atmospheric. MOH:RS is more of a Hollywood film experience. What do people prefer? Exactly. EA: 1 / Valve: 0.

In Half-Life, things happen in front of you. There are no cutscenes, just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sense of real life. This is good.
In EA games, you have cutscenes constantly popping up, telling you to shoot red barrels. What do people prefer? EA: 2 / Valve: 0.

Final Score: EA wins with 2 points.

It's the same with films.

Let's say EA is a major Hollywood studio and Valve is the small independent company.

EA want to make, for example, James Bond XXI, or Indiana Jones, or any other established brand of Hollywood blockbuster.

Valve come along with a great film that gets overlooked by most of the public, lets say for example 21 Grams.

Valve have the better film, rated by critics.
But EA have Pierce Brosnan and Vin Diesel.

EA win again hands down.

I hate modern society, where the best things are pushed aside over more popular things.

It's begining to get on my nerves.

.......you know what? MOHAA and HL are BOTH good games...... the beach level in MOHAA is absolutely AMAZING. If you can find a major fault with it..... go ahead.

HL, is good too....... I haven't played the songle player much...... (mainly cuz I play too much UT)..... but I will purchase HL2 when it comes out possibly this summer........

EA has produced some good games....... Call of Duty is one....... BF 1942 is another....... you call them bad games? no.

........personally, I don't care who makes the game, as long as it's good........

...........(although I find EA has not done a great job with the 007 licence........ EON I haven't tried tho

Though the multi was pretty good, I HATED Nightfire (both versions). On the console version, there were too many driving levels and those obnoxious levels where someone drives and you just shoot, some of the levels were repetitive, and the plot was just stupid. The wonderful little moments like space shuttles blasting off without rockets didn't help. The PC version was just a mess...it had graphics that were at least 2 years out of date and still wouldn't run smoothly on my computer at the time, which ran No One Lives Forever 2 beautifully.
