Sensualist has been a tad busy these last several weeks and thought fellow colleagues would be ammused to catch up with an old CBn-er:

At the begining of February, Sensualist went skiing at Mont Ste. Anne which is a resort north east of Quebec City, a very historic part of French Canada. The temperature with the windchill was close to -40 C but with the neoprene facemask, goggles and headgear you were still able to work up a good sweat! (Once again, there's nothing like hurtling down the side of a mountain at the edge of control but never actually losing it!)

Then last week, Sensualist went ocean kayaking on the north shore of Jamaica to Dunn's River Falls (location of the DN and LALD shoots). Upon arrival, we climbed the falls which was a totaljaunt of aprox. 1000 feet. The Regaee music played by the steel bands and the Jerk chicken were outstanding.

It was good to be back in one of Fleming's old haunts, albeit 40 to 50 years later....

Sensualist was also able to go gambling at a casino on a criuse ship off Grand Cayman and did the reef snorkling bit at Cozumel off Mexico. Sensualist was lucky enough to see stingray, sea turtle and parotfish in clear teal and turquoise waters. (There was no sighting of any octopussy (although, for land-based ones read next paragraph) nor of anything resembling the Hildebrand Rarity!)

On the female front, there was that well tanned and toned pharmacheutical sales girl from New York that I got to 'know' on the Cruise ship. Yet the truth be told, Sensualist has a new Russian Girlfriend who grew up in Siberia but teaches music in these parts. When she plays Chopin, Kara Milovy could'nt hold a candle to her!

The problem is that Russian lover Svetlana wants a "relationship".....(Sigh! Sensualist is not one for, er, "relationships".)

I'm sure old Ian Lancaster would approve of the above, non? :) (Although, if the bastard were alive, he'd be encouraging Sensualist to get the whip out!)

Is Sensualist your spilt personality? Or a friend? Psychologists like myself always find people who talk about themselves in the 3rd Person filling chapters in textbooks concerning psychological illness and/or severe personality disorders. It's also appalling English. However, here we are talking about a nice cruise and I bring psychology into it.

Anyway, your holiday sounded pleasant, especially the part about snorkelling, having just finished reading Thunderball. It has made me rather keen to go out and try some diving in warm, clear waters.

Cruises aren't really my thing though. In my experience they are full of rich, old couples with tacky jewellery mingling with middle-aged people with boring desk jobs. I'd prefer to take a car out and explore the Carribbean at my pace. But each to his own as they say.

I wonder if I can go on a fencing holiday? A lot more fun than some of the so-called 'extreme sports' on offer these days.

Yeah....Thunderball (both the book and movie) left a huge impression on Sensualist.

As a result we did the Nassau/Bahamas thing for a week back in '99. You know, the gambling at the casino by night/watersports by day sort of stuff. Even went by the glass-cladded 'shark pool' at "Palmyra" (yea...it was still there!) And the town itself still has that colonial charm, though sadly diminised by massive amounts of Anglo-Saxon commercialization.

Also, it was my first and last cruise. I too like the idea of getting into a fun car and exporing the islands.

And if you want clear waters for diving, the Carribean has some fine spots as does the Maldives and the Seychelles...

Fun in the sun!

Ever gone skiing, Brix? Try it! It's a blast!

Welcome back my friend! It sounds like you had an awesome trip.

I am curious though, did you do any cliff diving whilst in Mexico?

As for relationships...just remember, a photo album of your travels will not take care of you when you are old and grey. :)

Oh yes, I used to ski quite a lot in the Summer and Autumn but I just didn't get into it. There weren't any explosions for a start. No, fencing is definatly my sport of choice. Plus I won a gold in it so that's fuelled my passion for it.

Sounds like a great Bond-like vacation!

A few thoughts on this thread:

I have to agree about not doing more cruises. It does depend on the cruise-line, but I won't take anymore of these party-boat type cruises [like Carnival]. The boats are filthy and the class of people are scummy. If I cruise again, it will definitely be on the upscale end.

The Russian girl. Run for the hills! I suggest renting the DVD Birthday Girl starring Nicole Kidman. Those chicks will do anything for a green card. :) And are very adept at making one think they are "the love of their life".

As for the relationship quip, some old broad isn't going to be taking care of you when you are old and gray either, so keep doing what you're doing. :)

That fencing thing sounds cool. Wouldn't mind taking it up myself. I hear it keeps one in shape also. Way cool! :)

A few responses:

The Russian girl idea is well covered...Sensualist takes no prisoners!

The cruise line was Royal Carribean....a top notch organization (though the idea of it likely being the last cruise stands).

As for cliff-diving...Sheezz! i went for some fun in the sun...Not to Acapulco to have my brains splattered all over due to a miss-timing of wind velocity or tide! :)

It's good to know there are some gold medal winners amongst the CBn folk...keep it up! :)

As an aside, they were flying the old NewBond trial balloon, eh? Oh well, Pierce's has had a good run thus far. He'll likely be back but then it's time for someone younger.

Touche'...or should I say: En Garde!

Exactly my point. I do not understand this mentality expressed by a lot of women of having someone with them when they are old and gray, and how this is the end-game of a relationship.

By the time they are in old-age, the sex issue is long dead for these women. If they want company then they can go down to the local bingo hall, or go play bunko [or some other girly card game] with the other biddies. They tend to put their husband in the grave early anyway, so what's this grow old together nonsense about anyways?

In fact I think most husband die early, er...because they can! :)
