I've been somewhat critical of Benson, but I give him credit for having to write with his artisitic hands tied behind his back.

But as for a new author? I dunno. Part of what erks me is that the Fleming Bond was very human. Benson's seems more like a superhero.

What did Timothy Dalton say once? :)

Is this supposed to be bad news? :)

I thought he was a crap writer compared to John Gardner!

Then it sounds like the literary Bond is in bad hands, if the publishers are really limiting him with what he can do. Why can't he go into Bond's head? I loved DoubleShot because it made Bond so much more vulnerable. What good are the Bond novels if they just give us more of the same with each and every story? The quality of the original Fleming novels was partially due to Fleming's grittiness, I think, and I now have a bit more respect for Benson - had he maybe less limits, then maybe he could have truly given us some more Fleming-like Bond stories.

I thought Benson was awesome until now.

Who does he think he is. Bond made him. Well not really, but I din't know him and probably won't read a post-007 novel by Benson.

Whoa, ease up dajman, I'd be upset too if I had so many restrictions placed upon me. The guy is tired and want's to stretch his creative legs, god knows he deserves it.

Indeed, writing the Bond novels is quite a task because there are the normal rules you must abide by. I will read Face Blind as soon as I get it, but I loved Benson's Bond novels as well. I hope his novels now are just as exciting.

I'm not boycotting him or anything, I just didn't like his writing enough to buy a book he wrote without Bond in it, and I think there are many people like that.
