I love III, 000. I think its very underrated. I enjoy old Michael and the scandal with Immboliare.. I like the scene in Atlantic City/HelicopterQuite. I'm in the minority that doesn't mind Part III.

Me too, I thought III was very good. Not a gem, but very good. I think I might also be in a minority when I say this, but I think I was better than II. It doesn't get too much better than Caan, Pacino, Duvall, Brando and Coppola. So I would have to say The Godfather I would be my favorite gangster film, with Scarface being second.I love III, 000. I'll have to check those out sometime. Thanks for the tip.
btw, I don't know if Payback (1999) qualifies as a crime drama(I see it more as a revenge-action thriller) but i love that film too!

Yeah, Steve played a character called Test Tube. He was the one early on who tested the coke with Fishburne at the airport hotel. Not a meaty role to be sure but he was present.Steve Buscemi was in KONY?

If you liked PAYBACK, you need to see the original with Lee Marvin called POINT BLANK. Also on the Lee Marvin tip, check out THE KILLERS. Marvin and Clue Gallagher play hitmen who are investigating just why their target(John Cassavettes) doesn't run or plead for his life. Via flashbacks they deduce why. Notably, former President Ronald Regan plays a bankroll for an armored car heist.
007luvchild2, YEAR OF THE DRAGON was a classic and shows why Mickey Rourke was the man back then. do you know they wanted DeNiro to play Rourke's character originally?
HEAT was great but I truly thought that Pacino performance was the weak link in the movie. The shootout was great. This is Michael Mann at his best- save when he worked on the television CRIME STORY.
Oh yeah, A BETTER TOMORROW II needs to be added.

I named Goodfellas my second favorite film of the 1990s. I can't wait for a special edition DVD of it.

The greatest crime thriller EVER made is 1995's "HEAT" starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Val Kilmer.
I recommmend everyone to watch it - the ending is superb. Ive seen it 15 times. A true masterpiece.
Yes, HEAT is simply terrific stuff. Probably my favourite film of all time, along with THE LAST EMPEROR.
I've read that Mann's masterpiece will be getting the two-disc DVD treatment in the UK this summer.
HEAT was great but I truly thought that Pacino performance was the weak link in the movie.
Wow, can't agree there, Robinson - I find Pacino's performance quite breathtakingly brilliant.

The line about the new boyfriend being with his wife but not being able to watch his TV was worth the price of admission alone.
HEAT was great but I truly thought that Pacino performance was the weak link in the movie.
