The spy who came back with a cold
PLAYING James Bond, says Pierce Brosnan, has become like slipping on an old pair of shoes. But with his 49th birthday approaching in May, the Irish film star is worried that he might be getting too old to play Ian Fleming’s hero.
Brosnan begins filming his fourth Bond epic next week, and confirmed yesterday that he we will return for a fifth. But he admitted: "It’s a demanding role. You have to have a lot of stamina for it. It would be wonderful to do another one. After that, I don’t know. I’d like to go with grace."
007’s mission yesterday — despite having "a miserable head cold" — was to pose for the cameras at Pinewood studios and say a few words about the film before the shoot begins. Beautiful Bond girls ready to follow in the footsteps of Ursula Andress and Honor Blackman were on hand to raise the temperature on an otherwise chilly morning.
Halle Berry, the Hollywood actress who has just appeared as an alcoholic waitress in Monster’s Ball, is Bond’s feisty new femme fatale. "I’m proud to be here," she said. "I grew up watching Bond. To be part of it is a little surreal."
The film, as yet untitled, is once again produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who dismissed reports of 007’s first topless love-making scene with Berry. The $100 million (

From all accounts zencat, you did write a Bond film. I'm just waiting for the ice mummy scenario to surface in a media report any time now.zencat (14 Jan, 2002 07:19 p.m.):
I take this as a compliment, Nexus, I really do. I would like nothing better than to write a Bond film. I wish it was true, but it isn't.
I do really like my ice mummy idea. Hummm... I wonder if my ice mummy scenario would work for a Lara Croft movie? You know, I've never thought of that! Excuse me while I run over to Paramount...
zencat...there's no reason why you can't pitch your ice mummy idea to any Hollywood producer. It's your original idea; you can do whatever you like with it. Not just Lara Croft but it would suit Indiana Jones aswell. Come on zencat...DO IT !...DO IT NOW !.

I thought we were in for another Christmas Jones type scenario (particularly when a report was mentioned saying she was playing a scientist) where Gala Brand is unknowingly working for the villain (whiz kid grad student working on the facial mutation device?) who ends up siding with Bond.
Wonder where the swordplay comes in. Run-in at the Blades Club, perhaps? Maybe Bond meets her there, they fence and have witty repartee and one-upmanship, and later he finds out he'll be working with her.
One other thing: who is the main villain? In-Pyo Cha made it sound like he was offered the main villain, Colonel Moon. Truthfully, he sounds more like the type who would spearhead a conspiracy than a freelance assassin, which is what he had said Zao was. We still don't know if he's an assassin or a General, and there's a great difference there. Sounds to me like the last one, differentiating whether Elektra or Renard was the main villain. I always saw Elektra as the main villain and Renard as her main henchman (esp. since he used a one-word alias and had one of those henchman physical oddities). Also, remember In-Pyo Cha mentioned a benevolent General Moon who has come up with a plan for the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea and that his son Colonel Moon wants the opposite. Perhaps Colonel Moon hires Zao to kill his father? Sounds like the whole Elektra/Sir Robert thing, which again is why I'm seeing it this way. When writers return, so do some of the ideas.
If this is so, who's playing Colonel Moon? And what is all this stuff about Toby Stephens' character being called Gustav Graves? Is that an alias he takes when he changes form? Or do Yune and Stephens not play the same character after all?
And will Bond 20 be confusing?

Might as well go the whole hog and call her Jacqui Frost and be done with it.

I'm sure zencat will be pulling his hair out by now, though I think he may be the mysterious co-writer of Bond 20

There's no way Pike would be anything like Mary Goodnight...God forbidFriedrich Baxter (14 Jan, 2002 04:09 p.m.):
Maybe Rosamund Pike will play a Mary Goodnight-like character. Let's hope agent Brandt is not the stupid bimbo from TMWTGN! Nevertheless, I think this movie will be GREAT!

She was interviewed on the Big Breakfast this morning along with Yune, Stephens & Brosnan it was all tounge -in-cheek but she did say she was playing an MI6 agent, and when asked if she was a villain she replied "No! Who said I was??"Jacques Nexus (14 Jan, 2002 03:56 p.m.):
Just read another Times article which mentions Pike is a "villainess". Perhaps the "facial mutation" device has been used on the Bond 20 script. I don't know what to think...but I do feel it in my DNA that Bond 20 is going to be a beauty !. Trust me...

This is part of the 2nd Times article mentioned by Nexus:
The figure trying to take over the world, codenamed Onegin, undergoes a “facial mutation” and is played for the first half of the movie by Rick Yune before handing over to the British actor Toby Stephens.
The Times got it wrong here. Toby Stephens starred in a film called 'Onegin'. This wont be the codename for his character. Idiots.

Believe it or not, I was one of the many writers Paramount considered for Lara Croft. I took a meeting with the exec in charge, but my idea turned out to be "too expensive" (and yes, I wanted to start with the plane crash). I wanted it to be Superman-like in scale, a huge movie ABOUT HER, not just some chasing the idol action movie which is what they wanted. I also suggested it be all CGI because at the time they were talking about someone like Demi Moore or Pamela Anderson in the part and I really didn't wanna see that (this was long before Jolie signed on).PaulZ108 (16 Jan, 2002 04:12 a.m.):
I did enjoy the Tomb Raider movie, but the script could have used a polish. If for some odd reason you do do a Lara Croft script, I'd suggest doing a screenplay of the plot of the original game, starting with the plane crash when Lara was 21.
Sorry to go off topic here, back to business...

You know, that's funny you would say that. Right after I posted this I sent and email (I thought) to my manager suggesting using the ice mummy idea in something other than Bond. Except I choose the wrong email address and accidentally sent it to a producer at Universal. When I sent them an email saying, "Sorry, ignore that" they emailed me right back saying, "No, no! This sounds like a great idea for Universal!"

Very interesting Smitty...did Pike look or sound defensive with her answer ?. Sounds like the Big Breakfast crew are aware of the villain rumours too. I hope more of the media do the same and try and make a big issue out of that, including the issue of Jinx...it would make great publicity for Bond 20 !.

"In action terms we know that a hovercraft chase scene along the Korean peninsula has been filmed, along with a surfing sequence in Hawaii in which “a psycho general puts his elite combat team on the edge”. As for technology, not only does Bond enjoy a souped-up Aston Martin but the villain also benefits from techno-wizardry. The figure trying to take over the world, codenamed Onegin, undergoes a “facial mutation” and is played for the first half of the movie by Rick Yune before handing over to the British actor Toby Stephens.
The use of an English actor for the villain, and the casting of an English actress, Rosamund Pike, as the villainess, follows recent Hollywood fashion. From Jonathan Pryce in Tomorrow Never Dies to Jason Isaacs in The Patriot, an English accent is more effective than a black hat in confirming villainy.
Pike is not the only eyecandy and Halle Berry can hold her own, and the audience’s attention, in the midst of dramatic special effects and should prove a wonderful Brosnan ally."
