Hi I think that they have to give more space and importance to the Colin Salmon role as MI6 Agent Charles Robinson , M's Chieff of Staff. He's a great actor , in fact
Colin Salmon is one of England's best actors.
what do you think?

Robinson has quite a few fans around here. I'm not one of them.

He's no more or less interesting than say, the old Minister of Defence (actually, possibly a tad less intresting). He's just the info dump "character" really, hard to get excited about. Has too much screen time as it is quite frankly.

I like Colin Salmon. But Freemo does have a point, he really is only there to give information. I would like to see his role expanded in a future film, and see how that works.

I like the actor and character, and I'm happy with him going on as he is. I think he's used in just the right quantity and tone.

I hope they cut down on the ensemble MI6 banter in Bond 21. The trend over the last few movies seems to be ever increasing use of these characters.

Anyone might think that Bond isn't a loner.

I like his character. Although he is a bit more reserved than Tanner, I think both of them have done very well in their respected Bond films.

I could take him or leave him. He seems quite suited to rhe role, but the role, like others before him, is just one of the MI6 HQ staff.

I think he's great. There have always been stock supporting characters in Bond movies, and he's one of the best they've ever had.

Robinson rocks and Salmon is a terrific actor.

That said, I'm not sure any staff member at MI6 should get a bigger part in a story.

Maybe we should just save that for our fanfics. :)

Joyce has an excellent point. The tradition of fan fic has always been to bring out certain aspects of a main character's character, or to make a minor character more substansial.

I enjoy seeing Colin on screen, but his role as Robinson is best displayed in TND. That is about as big as his role should be.

The character of Charles Robinson was created in Tomorrow Never Dies because Michael Kitchen wasn't available to play Bill Tanner. I guess Colin Salmon is a lot more popular among fans than Kitchen, since some fans are calling for an expanded role for this character or a spin-off series.

Although I am one of the fans of Colin Salmon, I don't think that the Charles Robinson part should be expanded beyond what Tom Mankiewicz called "Morris the Explainer", a character who would appear to explain various plot points or keep the audience up to date on what happened.

I think he's terrible and has the worst, most stilted delivery in the Bond films. It seems that he's putting on his 'posh' accent as he appears to trip over the beginning of every word. Obviously I'm talking about the actor as there is nothing to say about the character as there isn't a character. Just some lines.

Whereas Michael Kitchen geniunely is one of the country's best actors. I am mystified as to how anyone can prefer Salmon.

I think the most important role of Robinson and the other MI6 chartacters is atmosphere.

Yes they are needed by the screen writer to explain somehting to the audience. (It always drove me crazy that in AVTAK the Minister of Defense doesn't know what an electro magnetic pulse is).

The key thing though is that with a large staff running around MI6 looks on film to be the real thing to me.

I quite like Michael Kitchen as well. His "evil Queen of Numbers" bit is one of the great lines!

Yeah, it's nice, but I only want it for one scene, early on. I'm tired of the MI6 hanging around and bobbing up for a big stint in the second half of the film, they detract from the adventure and the specticale (sp) of it all. That when Bond should be out there in the action on his own,

I think I agree Freemo. The thing that bothered me a bit in The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day is that they were pretty much everywhere in the film, not that's a bad thing, I jsut don't like to see that all the time.

I did enjoy the 'come in and find out about mission, flirt with Moneypenny' scenario that was the regular thing for many of the early films. I hope to see that sometime soon again.
