I remeber Miami Florida...
Better tell 003 to bring his sunblock 2000 along with him..uh..just in case...you know.
Whoa.
This does sound awesome.
Interesting to place it in the month of June in one of the hottest states in the union.
Ouch.
Guess I'll have to see what flights are out there.
009 is right....and news?

Maybe we should change that sunblock into scotch.

Might be a good idea to lable your liquids, then. Could make for a rather unfortunate drinking mistake.Maybe we should change that sunblock into scotch.

I don't know I'd like to see what 00-No looks like all hot and bothered.
Drinking to double-oh no and double-oh not is never a mistake.
Down girl. You're obsession is showing.

Hmmmm.......
Certainly cool news.
A few points having JUST returned from Miami and having spent Saturday afternoon at the Fountainebleau.
Some of this is also based on observations of the turf in question by our local BCW resident - the charming and deadly Paladin.
- Miami is DAMN hot and humid from mid May through September.
- Given all the development and construction taking place, theres not much more than hotels and walking the streets around them is "not advised". Based on my perceptions, yeah the charm and class of Miami Beach is coming back, but it won't be here until around 2007. - Also, Paladin is a former "company man" and carries wherever he goes. When he goes to Miami Beach, he carries TWO. HE carries TWO. The man's deadly enough with one gun, but in Miami he carries TWO pieces.....and HE lives there!
- The famed Fountainebleau is still a sight to behold. The lobby and restaurants have been unchanged since Goldfinger. However, the entire sweeping gardens and pool/cabana area are no more. Nice, but outside of the actual physical location.....Well....Don't be expecting Felix or Dink to be hanging around. Also, they are constructing a tower of condo's which won't be completed until Jan. 2005. The construction really encroaches on the existing pool area-fences, lots of dust and the steady sound of workers, welding and hammering. If the BCW was to be held there, I doubt I'd stay there. Flicka observed the same and we discussed it. When a seasoned Bond girl like Flicka is unconvinced, that says something.
- Bond locales - Key West is two hours away and the only true locale there is the harbor and the Hemingway House. The "Barrelhead Bar" is located about an hour away near Miami harbor and (based again on Paladin's opinion) a bunch of Bond fans may well likely end up in a bar room brawl just to get out of the place. Neither Flicka or I want to be impaled on a swordfish.....Although I wouldn't mind watching Flicka lay down the law with a shotgun. Paladin offered to loan her one of his kevlar vests.
So.....
I'm not sure I'd be that excited. Granted, I'm speaking from having just been there and things may change by June, but based on the email from Matt, nothing is set, he's just getting a count of who's interested. I plan to reply to him today with these same observations.
I am happy (as is Flicka) that it's a BCW and not coupled with another Spyfest. Also, had I received this email, Matt would already have his check and I'd probably be booking my flights right now.
It's safe to say that Flicka, myself and the Irish Kitty (yes, I'm bringing two Bon---*ahem* BRYCE girls along this time) and 004 may very well jump in the mix.
REMEMBER though - Nothing is set, there's been no mention of celebs or a game plan.
I want some details.
Sorry to be a downer on something I've generally been excited about, but that's the facts from someone who was just on the scene with someone who knows the lay of the land and is also a BCW regular.
Check out the "Target Miami" thread for details on Flicka and my adventures. We did have a blast, but it was in Palm Beach (about 75 mins from Miami) and the hotel we stayed at would have been Bond's choice and would be on par with the Hopkins in San Francisco and much more suited to the BCW crowd.
We'll see what happens but right now, the only call I'm making to my travel agent is to thank her for seeing to it that Flicka and I had a smooth trip.

You know, Bryce, I've reached the conclusion that your posts carry more of the flavour of quintessential James Bond than half the damn continuation novels. You put Raymond Benson to shame. Also, Paladin is a former "company man" and carries wherever he goes. When he goes to Miami Beach, he carries TWO. HE carries TWO. The man's deadly enough with one gun, but in Miami he carries TWO pieces.....and HE lives there!

And, er, he makes it all up - you don't.

I've always said Bryce isn't Bond...he's Fleming. He's the real deal. You know, Bryce, I've reached the conclusion that your posts carry more of the flavour of quintessential James Bond than half the damn continuation novels. You put Raymond Benson to shame.

Thanks gents.

When I post, I post a response usually. When I relay my adventures or personal experiences, I try to put a little Fleming spin influenced more by Gardner with a bit of Benson thrown in....with an occasional wink to Christopher Wood

Now, as to Miami, I did get a small note from Matt Sherman which mentioned both Key West (a day trip maybe?) and the Fountainebleau but nothing firm on the dates being locked (June 4-6) or which hotel we'd be working out of. There's also registration and room fees - there's usually a group rate for a standard room set up for BCW attendees.
I guess you could say that BCW 7 is "in the final stages of casting and location scouting aiming for an early June start of production."....Sorry, I've been catching up on Variety today.

We'll see what happens.
Loomis, Zencat - Thanks again for the kind praise.
