once again, ITV rolls out the obligatory Bond movies at xmas (there's 2 this yr, prob to make up for the lack of them on Bank Holidays). This xmas day there's Tomorrow Never Dies while on boxing day (i think) ITV are showing Moonraker. Such a lot to look forward to this yuletide season!!

Yes, CommanderBond, ITV is a station that shows the Bond films in the UK, I believe. BBC is also another one, I think.

I'm sorry, I may be wrong, I just recall hearing a while ago that BBC sometimes shows Bond films or specials, although I could be wrong.

Spike TV is showing all the Connery, Moore and Dalton films and OHMSS in their usual Bond marathon (they did the same thing over the 4-day Thanksgiving holiday).

Really, in this age of mass DVD acceptance does it really matter though :)

Exactly......

I do believe you are correct on ITV having sole rights to the Bond movies in the UK Golden Girl.

Leslie Halliwell was in charge of all movie purchases for ITV for years and years and apparently the BBC rejected the Bond movies as below them way back when which allowed Halliwell to snatch them up for ITV.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I still think it's amazing that these (relatively) ancient films still get shown at prime time during peak seasons, pull in millions of viewers and are treated with some reverence by ITV. And you're right about ITV having sole rights, too DLib.

Yes, years ago the BBC rejected the television rights to the 007 movies and I am sure they have been regretting it ever since.

I am not sure how UK television is now but when I was growing up ITV would show a Bond movie on every bank holiday. In those pre-DVD and pre-VCR days that was a real highlight for me.

I don't enjoy watching Bond films on ITV anymore. I agree that when I was growing up it was a highlight and I taped them all from the TV. It is only when I bought the VHS that I realised how cut these were. It is good that they are still shown and still considered a crowd puller, however, I would rather watch on DVD.

I used to tape them all from ITV and I would cut out the listings and 007 artwork from the "TV Times" magazine and tape them onto the box.

ITV still like to get the odd Bond movie in on most public holidays (xmas, bank hols) and they think they can get away without showing them only if they run a Bond "marathon"!!

Lancaster pointed out how edited the TV versions are in comparison to the vids and DVD, which raises the issue of the headbut on the Goldeneye DVD..

Is it true they cut the headbutt from the British version of GoldenEye?

I've noticed the UK censor is a lot more sensitive about violence.

In the US version of Licence to Kill we actually see Lupe getting whipped by Sanchez on the island while we hear her lovers screams off camera.

If memory serves me correctly though in the UK version of Licence to Kill the scene ends as Sanchez is taking out the whip.

Really Snow, I know the UK censor goes crazy over violence, but I never knew they did that much in LTK! Very interesting!

Evidently....I think LTK is the most censored of any of the Bond movies....the shark attack on Felix Leiter is also heavily edited (and shorter) in the UK version of the movie. It was quite an eye opener when I saw the US version of LTK.
