Well said, good sir!!

Seems to be MORE commercials than film.

I've thought long and hard about this and I've tried to come up with some simplistic means of describing how I feel about the manner in which thiis "movie Marathon" has been presented.

After long and careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that Spike TV...........

Um...............

Oh, yes.

SUCKS.

That about sums it up, I hope.

Pip, pip....

Cheers.

Well, yeah more movies of Bond and sadly, more comemercials as well. I must admit though, I do enjoy just sitting down for a second in the day and popping on the TV to find a Bond film on. I believe it was last Christmas, that I watched a few minutes of You Only Only Live Twice on Christmas Eve. It's always fun.

During their Thanksgiving marathon, I noticed that there was at least one extra line in OHMSS that isn't on the DVD.

From blofeldscat.com:
http://www.blofeldsc...o_dvdohmss.html

On the DVD, right after Telly Savalas delivers the line, "Tracy, don't be so proud. Your father's own business is not entirely within the law", it cuts to Bond and Draco in the helicopter, completely cutting the line "His brotherhood also have exotic ways of keeping it a closed shop" (a clip featuring this line can be downloaded in The Screening Room) which is the laserdisc and VHS tape. The stock car race scene has completely different editing and appears to be about 20 seconds shorter than the versions on my laserdisc and tape (I didn't time it so I can't be exact). Finally, after the stock car race, when Tracy says "We didn't even stop for the prize", Bond's line "I told you that crowd would discourage them" has also been cut.

I definately remember hearing Blofeld use the "closed shop" line, and I think I remember hearing Bond's cut line after the race (not sure though). Anyone else notice this?

I'll probably watch at least OHMSS this time just to check this.

I wonder is USA will do an marathon too... they sometimes do. A lot less interruptions there.

But what can USA do a marathon of? Pierce? The Mike Grahamn movies, Dante's Peak, and GE? Not a bad way to spend a day, by any means, but I think I might want some Bond too.

Do you think if we pointed out to Spike TV that they ODed on the commericals during their turkey of a Thanksgiving marathon, they might cut back the ads this time?

I thought of a great tag line for this marathon:

"7 days worth of Bond....21 days worth of commercials!"

I was surfing the channel listings last night and saw TLD was on. I flipped over to it just out of curiosity and guess what part it was? I wouldn't know because it was, gasp, a commercial.

All I can say is I hope a lot of people thinking of watching this gets Bond DVDs for Xmas,

Thats one of the things I miss most about British television. Way fewer commercials. If a Bond movie was playing, there was at most three or four breaks. Here in the U.S. during those Bond marathons, there are about ten long commercial breaks, so to me it seems like you lose the continuity and flow of the movie. Thank god I got all the films on VHS.

Its a machine that records television. Everything is recorded on an internal memory. I think it will record everything within the last half hour (or maybe an hour I'm not altogether sure).

So say you are surfing the channels and you come across something that looks interesting.
However, it's about 20 minutes into the show. TiVo has the first 20 minutes in its memory so you go back to the start and watch it. Of course while you are watching the start TiVo is recording the rest so essentially you get to see the whole thing but will finish watching the show 20 minutes after it ended.

There is another function with TiVo. You can program it to record everything with one name. Say I punch in "Star Trek" on the TiVo. It will display all of the "Star Trek" episodes that are to be broadcast in the next few days. I can select to have certain episodes recorded (to be watched whenever I feel like it) or tell the TiVo to record all episodes of "Star Trek" as they are scheduled -- ie TiVo will periodically check the schedule from Direct TV (or your cable company) to see when episodes will be broadcast.

What Mister Asterix is referring to in his post is that TiVo will allow you to fast forward through the commercials. So say there is a 3 hour show with one hour of commercials. If you start watching from the start when the broadcast is an hour in and then forward through the commercials, you will essentially end your viewing of the show at the same time as the regular television audience.

Yes a lot more useful because you have to program a VCR and a VCR will not record a show as you are watching it.

As an example....I was at my landlords the other day my landlady walked in about 10 minutes after the local weather forecast had already been on. She wanted to see the forecast so my landlord backed up the TiVo to the point of the weather forecast.

Nobody told the TiVo to record the forecast. If you had a VCR then she would not have been able to watch the weather forecast!

Ah! The Christmas movie marathon soon begins in a few days! Still kind of sad to find out that OHMSS will not be shown on Christmas Eve. However, Turner Classic Movies is also getting into the spirit and will be showing Casino Royale (1967) on Saturday night, I believe. Just wanted to let you all know! :)

From what I've seen, it doesn't look like it, DLibrasnow. :) It would also be nice if TBS brought out A View To A Kill and Licence To Kill, but I haven't seen anything in the guide.
