Blue Eyes' thread on the connection between Cary Grant and James Bond got me thinking about an issue that keeps coming up: Eon doing a film version of Casino Royale.

My challenge to all is to cast the main roles from Casino Royale: Bond, Vesper, Mathis, Le Chiffre, and anyone else you want, contemporary to each of the Eon Bonds.

Good luck!

I didn't realize 'til well into it that the CBN guys had already made their lists, so there's some crossovers (though not exactly within the same timeline). I'm not too happy with all of the choices, but sometimes it came down to, "Do I remember anyone who was acting then?" Surprisingly, despite having lived through them, the hardest part was casting for the 1980s.

James Bond - Sean Connery
Felix Leiter - Jack Lord
Vesper Lynd - Catherine Deneuve
Le Chiffre - Eddie Constantine
Mathis - Louis Jourdan
Title Song: Frank Sinatra

James Bond - George Lazenby
Felix Leiter - James Coburn
Vesper Lynd - Julie Christie
Le Chiffre - Victor Buono
Mathis - Omar Sharif
Title Song: Astrid Gilberto

James Bond - Roger Moore
Felix Leiter - Brian Keith
Vesper Lynd - Jacqueline Bisset
Le Chiffre - Peter Sellers
Mathis - Jean-Paul Belmondo
Title Song: Dionne Warwick

James Bond - Timothy Dalton
Felix Leiter - Richard Chamberlain
Vesper Lynd - Joanne Whalley(Kilmer)
Le Chiffre - David Suchet
Mathis - Alain Delon
Title Song: Susanna Hoffs

James Bond - Pierce Brosnan
Felix Leiter - Bruce Campbell
Vesper Lynd - Catherine Zeta Jones
Le Chiffre - Miguel Ferrer
Mathis - Jean Reno
Title Song: David Bowie

Eric! That's an awesome list! I am still working my way through the Bonds....Speaking of:

Bond: Sean Connery
Vesper: Julie London
Mathis: Yves Montand
Leiter: Jack Lord
Le Chiffre: Noel Coward (in a fat suit)

Well, I've always thought Anthony Hopkins would make a good Bond villain, and perhaps Le Chiffre? I'll definitely agree with ya Xen, Jack Lord was made for the role of Leiter, it just his! For Vesper, I'm undecided, Zeta-Jones sounds interesting, but I'm just not sure....

Now that would make a great movie.

For now I guess I'll start at the beginning...

James Bond - Sean Connery
Felix Leiter - Jack Lord
Vesper Lynd - Brigitte Bardot
Le Chiffre - Peter Lorre (Although he died in 1964)

No problem. :)

I thought he did a great job in the 1954 TV version of Casino Royale. He is my favorite part of that feature.

I labored over the list for a few days, but like I said, I'm still not sure on everything. Among my favorite picks were Brian Keith for Leiter and Constantine for Le Chiffre (I'd just watched Alphaville a few days prior). I would have also loved to hear Astrud Gilberto on a Bond theme (heck, she's still alive, so why not?).

I agree with all that Lorre was a great Le Chiffre. I didn't want to trod too much on what had already been done.

For some reason, I got so excited by this project that I've been trying to cast a Jeremy-Brett-Holmesesque series with modern actors playing Fleming's roles, not the Broccolli family's. Maybe if I get something good, I'll post that here too.

I didn't realize that typing : & D makes :). Substitute a D for those happy faces.

Grammattically speaking there should be a space between the : and the first letter of the following word. :)

Wow! I had never thought about it, but Denis Leary would make a perfect Felix Leiter for Brosnan's Bond.

You know what...I gotta concurr. Put Leary and Brosnan back together and this time have them on the same side. That would be fun.

I wonder if they would let Leary sing the theme song. :)

Some very interesting choices being bandied about. I forgot to choose Alan Rickman as Le Chiffre against either Dalton or Brosnan, and I like Khan's choice of Lee(Matt Houston)Horsely for Leiter.

Dennis Weaver also would have made a good Leiter in the seventies, against Moore, me thinks...or even Connery.
