Hi,

Yes, another dumb Thread to help us all pass the time waiting for Bond 21.

Ok, 007 is 'Zero, Zero Seven'. Why do we say 'Double O Seven'?.

If 007 are number's then we should be saying Zero, Zero Seven.

So to conclude this observation if 007 is really 'Double O Seven' then there's only one number in 007 and two letter's. If 007 is spelt ( with number's ) then it's 'Double Zero Seven'.

Interesting eh?, it would be even worse if you said it the English way 007 would be 'Nought, Nought Seven'.

I swear I'm not on crack or something stronger, it's just my brain thinks of these thing's. But being completely demented helps.

Then it would be OO7. O,O,7. There's only one number in there, the number 7. OO7 cannot really be assumed as a number because it's letter dominated.

I think it's OO7, as in O's not zeros. Wouldn't O denote operative? Double O refering to superior status/skills...etc That's my guess-In Reymond Benson's novel O5 was sort of an agent in training...

well it depends on how it is said . Its like giving a phone number some people say a zero as an o. It could be either or ,but its usually said Double O'.

Yes good observation.

We say here in the UK if a number is say 01702 we say OH,1,7,OH,2. Which is incorrect, it should be Zero,1,7,Zero,2.

I would say therefore it's an English mistake taking the 0 (zero) as a (OH, or Nought).

Hi,

Everytime in the movies and adverts they always say his number is 007 Zero, Zero Seven, it's still not Double O' Seven....Also all the 'S.P.E.C.T.R.E' Agents have a number like "number 1", or "number 2".
What does that mean?. Why don't they just say "your 1" and "your 1, 2".
But if Blofeld gave these order's out everyday he'd would be in the 'toilet' all day. LOL.

Yeah, I've always wondered whether people like to say 'double-o' or 'zero-zero'. I personally always say 'double-o-seven' fpr the simple reason that's it's easier to say, I don't really know whcih is the proper way to say it, but 'double-o' has become more of the universal way I think.

Your so right. Everyone I know say Double O' Seven and I've never heard it said any other way. But, it's incorrect. His 'codeword' or 'secret' name ( that everyone know's anyway ) is a number 'zero zero seven'.

Mr Fleming if your surfing these boards in Double O' Heaven could you please clarify if it's 007 or OO7. And just to let you know that the CBn Online Shop is open.

It's 007, as in two zero's followed by a seven.

Someone (Evan I believe) explained it to me recently. From memory (which is weak at best), when Fleming wrote the novels typewriters did not have the numeral 0 so Fleming was forced to use O, though 0 was his intention. He uses 'zero' in his text when spelling it out at times.

The key word here is ‘numerals’. Fleming intended it to be 007.

It's 007 with two zero's in front of the seven. In America, we sometimes call zero "O". For example, when giving phone numbers, weight, and zip codes some say "O" instead of zero.

Ill just say this... look at the posters or DVDs for GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is not Enough and Die Another Day.. in all of them it is 007. In some older Bond movies I have seen OO7 though... example Dr. No. In the movies I have heard always OO7 but whenever you see it written it is 007. Like others have said it is 007 but people are more used to say it OO7. In my opinion OO7 looks bad. Anyone remember in DAD how Q says Double zero Seven?

Uh, Q called Bond "Double-Oh Zero" in Die Another Day after the Virtual Shooting Range test. I don't know whether that was a generic code for the person who was being tested on the range, or whether Q was making a crack at Bond's failing the test by shooting M.

True Mr. Asterix - Fleming does spell it out. I like "Double-O". The idea of a "Double-Zero" section hardly evokes confidence.
