I think Alan Rickman would make a great adversary for bond.
Or Jeremy Irons.

Blue Eyes (21 Mar, 2001 09:55 p.m.):
I could imagine Pheonix in about 10 years perhaps. A litlte older looking. I still think Hopkins would be the ultimate.

As far as Phoenix, I could see him in perhaps fewer than ten years. I saw him in Gladiator and, while I wasn't impressed, I think he would be capable of pulling off a Bond villain. I'm not surprised he was nominated for the Oscar (it was heavily rumored abroad), but I personally wouldn't have nominated him. But still, Sophie Marceau hasn't been nominated, and she gave a rather good performance in Braveheart. Phoenix now has the Oscar nom credential to add to his resume in applying for the job of Bond villain (also the fact that he was nominated for playing a villain; his character kind of reminded me of Elektra & Renard in a way, as far as the type of villain, one who's supposed to be sympathetic but still all villain). I haven't seen much of Phoenix's work, maybe some of it would impress me, but from Gladiator alone I think he could pull off a Bond villain, especially in the current vein (as I mentioned above, sympathetic but all villain).

True. Nigel Havers was never denied. But somehow I think that MGM And EON have since moved on from that. Just a personal feeling though, I haven't had any informant tell me that.

Rickman or Irons would definitely work.

I think it was the incest comment.

Anthony Hopkins would be the best. Russell Crowe as James Bond? Nah, I think he'd be a good villain, second coming of Alec Trevelyan.

Well the incest comment was true!!

Anyway Anthony Hopkins is my number 1 choice. But you've raised an interesting issue. How would Russel Crowe have been as Alec?

What about some other people?

Personally I'd love to see Anthony Hopkins as the bad guy! Can you just imagine this bad guy oozing with sophistication. A complete aristocrat. He'd be great!

It would have been Die Hard. That's the only movie I can think of where he played a 'baddy'. None of his others were high action and in Man In The Iron Mask he was an all round good guy - who had a very sad death!

Yup I would love to see Jeremy Irons as a Bond villain!

Hopkins was originally offered the role of Elliot Carver for TND, but turned it down.
Alan Rickman was the bad guy in Die Hard1, the Sherriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and the Metatron in Dogma.

My own choices would be Rutger Hauer, Patrick Stewart or Miranda Richardson.

Nigel Havers was rumored toward the beginning, that rumor hasn't been dispelled. Could very well happen- after all, Robert Carlyle was the first rumored actor for the villain of Bond 19 that I heard about!

Well, I have seen one film with Geremy Irons in, I can't remember the name of it (Might have been Die Hard???), and anyway, he made a fantastic baddy so I'd like to see him again.

Hi there, nice to see a new poster!

Well I can't say that I've ever heard of Alan Rickman, though I've looked him up on the net for a little bit of research. I found this picture:

http://members.nbci....man/GQ-9-91.jpg

He definetley has the baddy look. Sort of roguish gentleman, maybe a bit like an Elliot Carver.

As for Jeremy Irons! Well he is just brilliant!! Have you seen Lolita? Okay it's a very kinky film and Dominique Swain is just wow! But he was so good in that performance! He was great as the villain in Die Hard: With a Vengeance. And he also has one of those really great voices! And in Man In The Iron Mask he was great as well.

You know, I think you're onto something here!

Anywhere he's a picture or Irons:

Hi! What were the two names that you came up with? Have they been mentioned above. Please post them, it would be great to fuel speculation on here! :)

Anthony Hopkins would be good. The bad guy would have to be that of a strong character, who is well educated etc, otherwise, nothing else will work with Hopkins. Maybe like Dr. No or No#1 of SPECTRE, perhaps Drax.

I was thinking maybe 'Jacquin Phoenix' the emperor from Gladiator. Apart from that role he is relatively unknown and his role in Gladiator wasn't disimilar to that of a bond bad guy. He looks great as a bad guy and fits the Criteria, what do u think.

Blue Eye - you're right on the money about that one. My friend and I were talking about who would could be the next villian. Two names came up. They both have that sinister and sometimes psychotic look, and they are ruthless like no other. I hope both of them get roles as the bond bad dudes.

I could see Phoenix now. He's more of a name. So give him 10 years and probably a new Bond, that way Bond is slightly younger than him!

I did actually like him in Gladiator he played the role well. A complete shmuck who wants to shag his sister. What a weirdo, though she was cute. You know I actually know a girl who wants to bonk her brother!?!? So these things actually do exist!!

Yes.
