Really?? When did EON buy out MGM/UA's 50-percent share?

I thought you'd like Roadhouse. It's got Dalton in it. Michael Kamen did the score. It was released in the summer of 89. Made almost as much money as the other Dalton film did."

That's uncalled for! Damn that's brutal! Of course the chicks were really into that guy back in the day...:)

There's a thread around somewhere where this was discussed to a huge length. If you're unaware of Eon being self-owned, it could be worth a look as I believe there are a few facts and figures and quotes.

LOL! Who needs to the WWE, when we have the CBN Smackdown show. :)

Tell me when the steel cage match starts. :)

All joking aside, I knew I remembered hearing that Eon is back to owning all of Bond. It makes sense that they would have the money after all those years to buy Saltzman share.

And should Eon leave...I vote they go to Dreamworks. Speilberg will let them do their thing...no problem.

I however don't see EON leaving MGM....the legal battle would go on forever and we would have to wait forever for a new James Bond movie! In the early 1990s Cubby fought long and hard to stop MGM from selling the Bond movies away.

Come to think of it -- what was MGM attempting to sell in the early 1990s that Cubby was so intent on fighting in the courts....?

Just no kids(shortround),fathers(Henry Jones) or syrupy nonsense in the 007 films and I'm ok with that. :)

Nah...if Speilberg does anything...he'd give them Lucas' phone number and blank check, and tell them to go to down with the car chases.

I'd like to see the series at Dreamworks as well. Warner Brothers would be good as well.

Dreamworks would be perfect for the Bond films, as we all now Speilberg is a big Bond fan, and I think he would love to see the films shine. If you look you can see he loves to do his own thing, start his own trends, original movies etc...but when it comes to Bond, you gotta do it :) I agree, he'd fork over the cash and be very interested in the project.

But, if anything was to happen, I'd say FOX are the front-runners. They have helped MGM with Bond on several occasions and their interested in purchasing the sinking corporation. I have no doubt they could restore MGM and give Bond the attention is deserves, ditto with Dreamworks.

FOX would be good, at the very least we could be assured of top notch special edition dvd releases.

I can't explain the thing fully (can't remember all the details) but it had something to do with MGM being sold. In selling, the Bond films would be sold to TV networks, but for a really low price hence devaluing Cubby's profits and so on. Hence, he sued to stop the sale of the Bond catalogue to protect the films value.

IMO its a good thing that Bond is MGM's only lifeline. MGM needs Bond to succeed so they are willing to do anything to keep it going. They greenlight huge ridiculous budgets (150 million or whatever DAD cost is just a ridiculous amount for a single movie), they hire decent talent both behind the scenes and on camera, and most importantly keep the films coming at a fairly consistent pace.
If Bond was to move to another studio, would that studio be so worried about keeping the franchise going? Would they bother with the huge budgets, the marketing etc.
Or would they just let Bond die and think things like "hey theres already 20 films, we'll just make a fortune off the back catalogue", or "We'll churn out a couple of films, then forget about Bond and move on to the next hot franchise"
In my opinion Bond and MGM fit each other well, and although MGM makes some mistakes, I dont think any other studio out there would do a better job.

Under the leadership of Mechanic Fox used to be probably the least DVD friendly studios out there. However after Mechanic left Fox (or was he pushed) the studio really started putting together some top notch special edition DVDs.

Worst Case Scenarios:

Bond goes to Miramax. Expect the Weinsteins to be Full Of Ideas (or full of ****)

Bond goes to Warner's: Joel Schumacher is given the reigns and Akiva Goldsman is brought in. Expect a lot of close ups of Bond's butt.

Bond goes to Paramount: Rick Berman is given the keys, promises a totally new, fresh direction, giving us a Bond movie where Bond goes up against an Asian madman interfering with the US Space Program.

Bond Goes To Touchstone: The Mouse Gets Involved. No more sex and violence for Mr. Bond.

Thank you for a few frightening glimpses into the future....

Please keep Bond away from Warner, any studio that feels the need to unleash Harry Potter movies and "Batman and Robin" on the world has no business sticking its noses into 007.

I'm surprised noboby mentioned Columbia/Sony since that is who was so hot on trying to get the rights when McClory was in court a few years ago.

It's not that I like the MGM logo, it's the fact that it's roared before every single Bond film, it's part of the series in a way.

You obviously never saw the 1960s and 1970s entries to the series at the movie theater. MGM did not become part of the Bond family until the early 1980s...

I remember the old UA logo when it was owned by Transamerica that was just animation and no fanfare; then there was the UA fanfare that was on the first couple waves of VHS releases.

That UA logo before GE on DVD these days is kind of annoying, though. I prefer the lion. The lion links me right to the end of the Moore era.

Are you referring to the stone looking background logo with the light flare coming across the wholescreen at the end? If so that is a beautiful piece of work.

MGM and UA were merged prior to the release of Octopussy so I can assure you that the lion was on the print of GoldenEye....
