The only reason Temple is different is because Lucas was going through a friggin' divorce!"

I wish he'd get divorced more often! :)

The Matrix sucked the big one....hated it!"

The Keanu factor is tough I'll grant you that... :)

I like them all equally. I like Connery in the Last Crusades, he was adorable, but if the relationship was pictured differently between Indy and Henry Sr, you know putting aside the beef between the two characters, I would have pictured Henry Sr. character, being more or like Connery's Allan Quartermain in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Crusades was probably more melodramatic in some scenes. I agree, Indy should have strangled the nazi sooner, but she was less jarring on my nerves than Kate Capeshaw character in the Temple of Doom. However, I had to admit in one point of Crusade where Indiana was just pissed at the woman and says "Who gives a dam what you think?" and then in uncontrolled anger he grabs her by the throat and says "All I have to do is squeeze" fair enough she was a nazi, she deserved it. I was thinking to myself, "Dalton as James Bond would have been great in that scene. Oh I forgot wrong time period, wrong film." I like them all, I would pitch and moan about one of them if Tom Selleck was actually cast as Indiana Jones. Not that it would be awful, but imagine.

I didn't care for it either, Snow, but I agree with Tarl that it was better than other action films of 1999, definitely better than any recent Bond film. It had some semblance of an interesting idea and characters (tho the way people went on about it as if it was novel and original had me shaking my head), but then it just degenerated into what all action films do nowadays: endless scene after endless scene of massive destructive firepower where buildings get destroyed and characters just stand there with rifles in their hands shooting and shooting and shooting....I really don't get the attraction of endless, repetivie scenes like this. I can't stand seeing the Bond films degenerate into this cr-p either.

As for Keanu....well....he does seem to be a guy we keep having to put up with, don't we? :)

Agreed, Darren. THE MATRIX is awful: a glum, charmless slab of pseudo-intellectual sci-fi, full of, as the fella said, sound and fury, signifying nothing.

People who put "James Bond" and names like Keanu and Hugh Grant together should be made to PAY dearly for their sins!

Hard for me to rank these, or add a rating for them:

Temple of Doom: *****

Not really sure why the die hard Indy fans hate this movie. It's just as fun as Raiders was. Might hold some sentimental bias, as this was the only Indy movie we owned until the DVD's, and I watched it often when I was younger.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: **** 1/2.

The last Indy movie I saw. Just a little slow in some parts. Still great fun to watch, great action score.

The Last Crusade: ****

Perhaps just a little too fun in some parts. Sean Connery (as usual) steals the show.

I really can't decide. Temple and Raiders are both very good films, I think when I was younger, I liked Temple more, because it had 'that' dinner party of 'somewhat different varieties of food.' :) However, Raiders has very much grown on me. My all time favorite scene in the trilogy?---

The Temple of Doom-
"Hang on lady, we're goin' for a ride."
"Oh my god is his is nuts?" (the expression on her face is unforgettable.)

I think you all know the scene I mean. :) Pure comical genius!

Ha, still love that scene. :)

Loomis, I gotta disagree with ya. Raiders is definitely the best of the Indy films. The final act isn't sluggish - I love it. The pacing is better than TOD (which I think moves a little too fast...), and there's nothing I can find myself able to criticize.

While I love TOD, I can find lots of problems with it. For one thing, the plot just isn't as resonating, Willie Scott (while funny) is nowhere near as cool as Marian Ravenwood, the action isn't as gripping as in the original, and I find the Sankara stones to be a rather uninteresting follow-up to the Lost Ark. That bridge finale is undeniably awesome, but I'd rather see the Wrath of God killing Nazis. That's just personaly preference. But hey, it's a lot better than the Raiders re-tread that is Last Crusade.

It could have used tighter editing, and its 115-minute running time could easily have been whittled down to 90 minutes or so.

Funny, that's exactly how I feel... about Temple of Doom. I watched the trilogy over three nights a few weeks ago, and my feeling on TOD is that (while it's terrific and alot of fun) it was stretched a little thin, and would have made a great slick and lean 90 minute film instead of the two hours it goes for (ofcourse, saying that, I can't really think of anything to cut out from it, so there you go).

I rate them in this order...

1 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
2 - Temple of Doom
3 - Last Crusade

Raiders is just the ultimate. Has near everything you could want in a movie. Temple of Doom is very good. Last Crusade I used to really love when I was a kid, but it doesn't seem to work nearly as well for me know. Really lacks that feel of spectale that the other Indiana Jones films have.

I like Last Cruisade. I like them all really, but TOD is the least liked.

Raiders is supreme.

I pulled out my Indy DVDs and was watching the 'making of' ROTLA and TOD today. They had a funny bit on there where Kate Capshaw is taught how to scream and it shows a little compilation of all her screams in the film.

I kind of want to rediscover Temple of Doom. The main thing I remember is the screams. But when I saw this in the theater on opening day 20 years ago I remember thinking upon leaving the theater it was better than Raiders.

Raiders is quite simply one of the greatest action films ever made, and I always have a soft spot for Last Crusade. It's one of the few movies starring Sean Connery where I don't see him playing Sean Connery. IMO it's a far better third chapter than Return of the Jedi, Superman III, Lethal Weapon 3 or Die Hard 3.

For me, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM is the pick of the bunch, followed closely by RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.

Watching TEMPLE OF DOOM on Monday, I realized how much I'd underrated it in the past. Action, humour and suspense are even more expertly blended than in RAIDERS. TEMPLE OF DOOM is a simpler film (go with RAIDERS if you want more plot and characters), but, to my mind, all the better for it.

RAIDERS drags in places, especially towards the end, but TEMPLE OF DOOM never lets up from its explosive start. I also think TEMPLE OF DOOM has a keener sense of its own absurdity than RAIDERS.

Raiders is the best hands down. I do like temple very much and i love that it's not a rip off of Raiders like The Last crusade but it' #2. I could do just fine sans Short Round. I wish Spielberg would keep the brats away from my Indy Films! :)

True but it does steal most of the key plot points.

I'll have to rewatch Crusade then and see how they compare. I never and probably still won't see it as a total copy.

Nazi's, religious artifacts...yes, it reaks of appeasment to people who hated Temple of doom.Lucas and Spielberg called it an apology for TOD. They made a great sequel and should be proud of it. :)

I hated Indy 3. :)

I'd like TOD a whole lot more if it had a stronger female character than Willie Scott - who is the Stacy Sutton of the Indiana Jones movies.

I agree. What a bad time the mid '80s was for a for female heroines in action films.

Yes, well, I'd prefer to see more Willie Scotts and Stacey Suttons in the Bond series at this point, and fewer "buttkicking babes" ("Bond women", not "Bond girls") who are Every Bit Bond's Equal™.

None of them is bad. Everyone if just as good as the other one.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Great movie!

Temple of Doom
Great movie

Last Crusade
Great movie

But if I have to take one that would be Temple of Doom. I love the Willie Scott character's scenes.

I always liked The Last Crusade best. Second to that is ROTLA, then comes Temple Of Doom and the movie I like the least comes out next year :)

I don't know why, but Raiders has got a special feeling about it.

Nonetheless, it was rather nice to at least think she'll be killed on the grate while Indiana Jones was possesed. :)
