From Dark Horizons - http://www.darkhorizons.com/news.htm

Planet of the Apes 2: BBC Wales indicates Tim Burton has been scouting England to shoot the sequel in late 2004 with both Pinewood & Shepperton studios being looked at.

Sweet! Although the film wasn't great, it wasn't terrible either. It doesn't hurt that I'm a huge fan of the original films too (at least most of them :)). Plus, I'm interested in seeing how they handle the first films ending. That was just messed up!

Felix's list of POTA films (best to worst)

1. Planet of the Apes (the original baby!)
2. Escape from the Planet of the Apes (who doesn't love a film about apes travelling back in time to the 1970's?)
3. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (sufficient.)
4. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (yikes!)
5. Battle for the Planet of the Apes (*vomits*)

Did you ever see the Tv Series. That's just been released on DVD along with reissues of all the early films. I think you can get it all in one big box aswell.

Blech! You mean Tim Burton is actually going to direct the sequel after his comments about the ending? The only positive in the re-imagining of Planet of the Apes was that Rick Baker could perfect his ape makeup. The makeup was just incredible and believable. But the story was just stupid. They should have just dusted off Rod Serling excellent script from the first film and just reshot it.

I disagree. The new Planet Of The Apes was terrible.

And while Rik Baker’s make-up was brilliant, I prefer the original make-up’s design. Making chimpazees sexy is just wrong in so, so many ways.

Burton's POTA wasn't that bad, but it doesn't stand up to the original, which was a classic. Here's how I rank the original films...

1) Planet Of The Apes
2) Escape From The Planet Of The Apes
3) Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes
4) Battle For The Planet Of The Apes
5) Beneath The Planet Of The Apes

By the way, I strongly suggest you check out the TV Series. It's lots of fun.

I'm not particularly fond of any of the incarnations of Planet of the Apes. There's this little plot hole that I just can't overlook: apes evolve into humans, not apes with clothes on!

Ah, but you see if they didn't evolve into apes with clothes on, there would be no movie. :)

You're kidding, they're actually going to do a *sequel* to that piece of simian doodoo??? Why do this surprise me?

I am an old POTA freak since I was a kid. My ranking of best films:

1. The original
2. Escape
3. Conquest
4. Battle
5. Beneath

Yup, I think Battle's even better than Beneath. At least Battle has Paul Williams as that smart scientist ape and Roddy as Caesar (I adored Roddy McDowall).

I not only watched the TV series when it first aired, I saw the animated series too. I have the live TV series on tape -- they run it on the Starz channels. It wasn't terribly good but, hey, you had Mark Lenard as Urko. That alone made it worth watching.

The only thing good about the remake was some of the music (not too bad), Tim Roth and Heston's ironic cameo as an ape who hates humans spouting some great lines. The ending has got to be one of *the* worst in any film in recent memory.

Come on, the ending was so bad it was good! I think I'm looking forward to this sequel in a camp, tongue-in-cheek sort of way. I'm not gonna take it seriously at all.

I kinda liked the remake of "Planet of the Apes"...Although the original is a classic the remake was interesting.
I mean how many remakes improve upon the original. I saw "The Italian Job" this summer and was appalled at how they had discarded everything that was great about the original and instead come out with another "Oceans Eleven" (which in itself was a mediocre remake of the Sinatra original)....
Besides I am interested in seeing how that ending came about!! :)
