I agree Jack....I simply don't understand the bad rap that the movie got!

Die Hard Trilogy
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Alien Quadrilogy
Terminator 1 and 2- haven't seen Rise of the Machines yet, so I'm not sure how it matches up. Although I don't think it's as good as the mother of all sequels, T2 .
The Matrix
Scarface
The James Bond Films
Independence Day
Blade
Blade II
Tomb Raider 1 and 2- back me up here, zencat.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (or LEG as I call it)
The Rock
Star Wars- I feel the original trilogy is geared more towards action, but the prequels are straight sci-fi.
The Guns of Navarone
Force 10 from Navarone
Army of Darkness
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
The Untouchables
Jaws
The Usual Suspects
Gone in 60 Seconds
Demolition Man- a guilty pleasure of mine.
Batman
Batman Returns- Batman Forever was okay, but Batman and Robin was tripe.

Thank God someone here agrees with me! I saw it with my aunt who really really enjoyed it, along with my girlfriend and her best friend. The movie just sets out to be a fun experience, and it does that quite well. As we've already mentioned, Connery gives one of his best performances to date (IMO, at least) and is given a strong supporting cast that makes it a memorable adventure romp.

Let's hope that "Sahara" fares better...I think it will because more people out there are familiar with the Cussler novels than are familiar with the graphic novel on which LXG is based.

Ultimately, it was the reports surrounding the film's production that skewed the reviews. The mainstream press pounced on the reports of Connery taking over in the editing room and were quick to label the film a bomb.
My only problems with LXG was that:
* The Nautilus was too damn big(and maneuvering around Venice w/stealth and ease).
* Tom Sawyer's character wasn't developed and had no motivation for joining the league.
* In the novel, Mina Harker ran The League.
Critics are a strange bunch and I tend to read their reviews AFTER I've seen a flick.
Hell, I'm willing to give each film I see a chance. Even "Star Trek V" had it's moments:D

1.) TITANIC -- The first person to utter a chick flick joke dies a slow, agonizing death. Be warned. Seriously, though, you have to give Jimmy C. credit with this film. He's got a knack for combining gripping action film with a strong emotional core. Kate Winslet was great. The only flaw (okay, other than the occasionally banal dialogue) was Leonardo DiCaprio, who as a rough-and-tumble, loogie-spewing commoner is like watching cardboard try to act. It's not a pretty sight. Why the **** did they not go with first-choice Matthew McConaughey???? Why??? Why!!!! Why???? WHYYYYYY??!?!?!? I need to lie down now... call my masseuse... tell him to clear his afternoon... the Bitch-Goddess is stressed...
2.) THE TOWERING INFERNO -- Now this is one movie I wish they'd remake. No bad guys with guns... no villain trying to take over the world.... no dingbat Cameron Diaz doing her "Gosh-they-can't-tell-that-I-can't-act-worth-****-as-long-as-I-keep-giggling-and-laughing" number. Just a bunch of beautiful people partying on top of a burning skyscraper about to become not-so-beautiful toast if fire chief Steve McQueen and architect Paul Newman can't douse the inferno in time. Hey, nitwit producers of VOLCANO and DANTE'S PEAK and DAYLIGHT, this is how you make a disaster flick. Pity that Faye Dunaway didn't have more to do. That's okay, in the remake I have planned, I am playing the heroine and I will assist Tobey Maguire (in Paul N's role) in putting out my -- er, the building's fire. It's getting hot in here....
3.) THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE -- The other way to make a disaster flick. The first time I watched this, it scared me off ships for the next few years. Not because I was afraid of drowning. But because I was afraid that I'd survive with a woman as big as Shelley Winters, and that she'd eat all the food on board. Best thing is a young (okay, young-ish) Gene Hackman who is oddly sexy as a priest. I was a junior at Holy Family Academy (Imagine your average, garden-variety Catholic school. Do you see it? Good. Now imagine it in HELL) when I first saw this, and something about Genie boy in that priest suit just made me want to go to confession everyday. After hours. Behind closed doors.
4.) THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (REMAKE) -- Not sure if this qualifies, but it does have light action. It's about the only film that I find Pierce Brosnan really good in. Loved his game of cat and mouse with my patroness Rene Russo. Loved how they constantly one-upped each other. Love how Renee gives hope to women everywhere that when we are that age, we can look like supermodels, too. Loved how they ****ed like rabbits on those marble stairs. Loved Pierce's body double's *** as he carried Ms. Renee to the next room to **** her. Loved how he got her in the end on the plane. Loved how she got him right back by kneeing him in the groin. Wait a minute... was that this movie? Oh, wait. That's how my date ended last night. Sorry.
5.) THE TERMINATOR -- Three words: Michael Biehn's butt. End of story. Okay, alright. This movie is another showcase for Jimmy Cameron's ability to blend touching romance with hard-charging and revolutionary action. Linda Hamilton is terrific as the "ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances." Indeed, my favorite film fantasy of mine is me being protected by a hunk from the future, and screwing his brains out in a cheap motel room after he tells me he travelled through time for me. But let's face it, this movie is all about Michael Biehn's butt.
6.) ALIENS - I like the first one better, as a horror film. But as an action film, this one kicks some serious ***. Sigourney Weaver should have won the Oscar that year, but giving her the award would have been like giving it to Julia Roberts for playing a hooker who will b**w a guy but not kiss him on the lips. Just not the right movie, you know? But this is probably the only action film (besides THE TERMINATOR and TITANIC) that have strong feminine sensibilities, but don't blow (as in CHARLIES ANGELS, LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, CUTTHROAT ISLAND, TOMB RAIDER, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE). And, guess what? They're all by Jimmy C. And guess what again? Michael Biehn is in this one, too. Unfortunately, his *** does not make an appearance.
7.) DIE HARD -- Okay, this one was coming sooner or later. I see this movie as Hitchcock mixed with a little TNT: a smart-*** NYC cop gets caught in an L.A. highrise on Christmas eve when terrorists take it over. This ground-breaking film created the subgenre of THE ACTION FILM THAT TAKES PLACE IN ONE DAY IN ONE LOCATION. Hey, I have an idea!!! A woman goes ballistic when the hussy next to her picks up the last Burgundy cashmere scarf on sale at Saks Fifth avenue, so she head-buts her, takes the whole store hostage, and a handsome negotiator (played by Gerard Butler) must go in an defuse the situation. We could call it "BITCH, THAT'S MY ****ING SCARF!!! PUT IT BACK!!!!"
8.) RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK -- Oh, Harrison Ford... Back when I actually wanted to sleep with him. Now, he looks like a Wal-Mart greeter. But in this film he is the epitome of testosterone. Remember that white dress that Marion wears throughout the last part of the film? Well, I had one made just like it so I can be "in-the-moment" during my ocassional "re-enactments." My favorite scene: the one where Marion yells, "Well, goddamnit, Indy where doesn't it hurt?" And he points to his elbow and replies, "Here." So she kisses it. Then he points to various parts of his body -- which she all kisses -- and ending in his lips. Well, my version is not as PG-13. Let's leave it at that. This is a family site, after all.
9.) STARMAN -- Sorry, call me a sentimental bitch, but there is something about this film that just gets to me. There's a lot of action in it, but what I liked about it is that -- just as with Cameron's films -- a strong emotional story is blended with an exciting action plot. Blending the two isn't always as easy as it sounds. I actually cried and cried at the end. My sister and brother finally had to leave me in complete embarassment. Sorry, we Scorpios are very emotional. And the best part: there is something utterly sexy about a man (played by Jeff Bridges, to boot) from another planet who knows jack-**** about our world. He's basically an empty vessel waiting to be filled :"Okay, repeat after me: 'Kristian is my mistress -- I will do her bidding or be spanked vigorously.'"
10.) TOMB RAIDER 2: The movie is blah... but it has the next James Bond in it: GERARD BUTLER. Yes, this decision is grounded in hormones, and not logic. The truth is I could watch two hours of Gerard Butler folding his laundry, or cleaning the toilet, or taking out the garbage, or flossing his teeth. Preferrably with his shirt off. Okay, look, you judgemental bastards... Xenobia's weakness is Pierce Brosnan. Mine is Gerry. Sue me.
Now where is that masseuse.... the Bitch-Goddess is restless and impatient... This calls from serious discipline... He is soooooo going to get spanked...
