I downloaded a copy of The Killing Zone (not sure why) and I was wondering if anyone thinks that it's actually worth reading. Or will I wish that I had that time back, to do something worthwhile, like go see "Gigli" or tease stray Pit Bulls with raw meat...

Sorry Jriv71, didn't see this one when you posted it.

I've read The Killing Zone (I owe an actual copy) and I sort of like it. The most interesting thing about the book is it's incredible similarities to LTK. Seeing as this book was written in '85, that's pretty strange.

Read it and let us know what you think.

If you don't mind me asking Jriv71, where did you download it from? I wouldn't mind a copy for myself.

I don't know where Jriv got his copy from but this here link was posted in another thread a few months ago: http://ianfleming.narod.ru/tkz.htm
It's a russian site, but you can read the lines "click here to download The Killing Zone" on top of the page. It's a zipped Word-document.

If it doesn't work, just PM me, I've got the document at hand. (Can't tell you anything about it, though. I've yet to read it.)

Yes, that was it. I was searching and couldn't find it again. I now have a Word doc, but it won't attach here...

Thank you for the link Stromberg! I have read about this novel, but never have seen the text available anywhere, nor have I ever been to a James Bond fan convention to purchase I photocopy.

I look forward to reading it. :)

Now if I can just find copies of the Christopher Wood books, I will be set.

Well, I just read it, and I have very mixed reviews. To begin with, I didn't like the concept, before reading a single page. I was sort of reluctant to start. How can this guy do that? I'm annoyed at some of the stuff that Gardner and Benson did, but that's nothing compared to what I knew was going to happen at the end. Plus, I'm a big Bush guy, so Hatfield's not tops on my list, anyway.

Then he starts with this "Yes, dammit, I said was. The son-of-a-bitch is dead now." Then the conversation between Bond and Bonasera, pilfered from TMWTGG (film.) Q in the CIA...I almost put it down. But I was reading off my computer screen, and that would've been difficult.

Then the action really picked up later on, and I started to feel this tension about, when is it gonna happen? There was probably too much action towards the latter half, but it made the narrative easy to read, and again, I didn't know when that climax was coming.

Spoilers coming:

Then Bond kills Doberman, and Bond gets killed on vacation. Huh??? I mean, I guess he had to get the bad guy, but he's killed on vacation??? I thought it was going to be Doberman inflicting the fatal wound before he gets killed by Bond (much in the same way Chen got it,) but, not while Bond was on vacation a week later.

I would say that it is a must-read for Bond fans, because it was diferent, but when you're done, print it out, and place it right next to your copy of 'Never Say Never Again', and the film 'Casino Royale', because it never happened.

Fan Fiction Reviews (Including The Killing Zone)

I encourage others to check it out before they invest the time in reading the "novel". I wasn't too impressed but I'm glad I read it.
