If the movie is a success, I wonder if there will be original novels, probably not. But if so, would we not only have to worry about Bond being in a Jinx movie, but also Bond in the Jinx novels, and Jinx in Bond novels ( If they continue the novels).

So far, the results shows 7% positive reaction.

The Jinx movie sounds a real winner here, huh?

If they can't sell it to the die hard Bond fans here, how will they be able to sell it to the public? Big publicity might get you a nice opening weekend with a 65% drop on the second week, but even that will add more to the budget. With MGM's not-too-distant financial woes, Jinx may be an apt bit of character naming.

No--I'd prefer not seeing a weak character developed into a weak movie scripted by mildly-weak writers potentially weakening the Bond series as a whole

The thing is, though, us die hard Bond fans are the people most hostile to the project, indeed the only people calling for it not to go ahead. I don't say that everyone else, i.e. "the public", is hugely excited about the idea of a Jinx film, but who are the people signing online petitions to halt it? That's right, the die hard Bond fans here.

Of course we're not pushing for JINX: THE MOVIE. We're "purists", by and large, and conservative in our attitudes towards all things Bondian. Our views are not always those of the mainstream. Ask Joe Blow if it would be okay to, say, have an American play 007, and he might well reply: "Sure. Why not? They should get George Clooney." Ask the non-hardcore fan (the kind of guy who knows only a handful of Bond movie titles off the top of his head) whether he thinks the idea of a Jinx spinoff would be in some way sacrilegious, and he'd probably look at you as though you were mad.

I'd be very curious to see how appetite for JINX will be drummed up if it does go ahead. Will it be sold on its connections to Bond (and especially to DIE ANOTHER DAY)? Or will the marketing downplay those connections as much as possible, so that Joe Public won't go in expecting, well, a new James Bond film, and come out disappointed?

And how about the film itself? To what extent will it echo the look and feel of DAD? Will there be references to the events of DAD? Or will DAD and everything to do with the world of Bond be ignored?

These are very interesting questions for Bond fans. For the first time in 40 years of stupendous success, the big screen series may be giving birth to another film or franchise. What will this "child of Bond" be like?

Maybe that's the point - to find or create a new audience! Maybe.
