Whats the best movie you saw this summer? I saw lots of movies this summer but the best one so far has to be T3 and Pirates of the Carabean.

P.S. this idea came from Zencat when he said what movie he liked best this summer in the Bad Boys 2 thread.

Well...the best movie I've seen this summer (and all year) is the documentary SPELLBOUND. This little doc about kids competing the National Spelling Bee Competition in 1999 has more character and suspense that all the mega-budgeted overblown Hollywood films out there combined.

But...

As far as big summer movies go; I'll go with PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (even though I missed the last half hour). Really well done. Great time. Also, HOLES was a surprisingly excellent movie.

But I'm still looking forward to TOMB RAIDER 2.

so far it's T3. But I think it will either Pirates of the Caribbean, or Bad Boys 2.

I've seen "The Matrix Reloaded", "Bruce Almighty", and "Finding Nemo"...

...and it's a tie between FN and BA. TMR is just okay.

Is 'Finding Nemo' any good homerjbond?

Me and some mates were trying to decide on which summer movie to see and I said, as a joke, 'What about Finding Nemo?' They all immediately said 'Yeah, that looks great. We gotta go see that!'.

How does it appeal to someone in the 'teenage Big Kid' group?

My favorite film this summer is probably Terminator 3, but I also immensely enjoyed Finding Nemo. I also liked Bruce Almighty.

Ask me this question in September. There've been some good moments but no great movies.

Yes, X2 was very good. I didn't like it as much as the first one which is probably why I'm neglecting it on my "best" list here. But I did really like it. Looking forward to this one on DVD.

I'm in New Zealand so everything arrives here very late. But so far I enjoyed X2 most of all. And Bowling For Columbine, that was good. But besides those two, I haven't really seen anything really fantastic yet this summer. Charlie's Angels was entertaining, but not great. Star Trek Nemesis was a dissapointment. I'm looking forward to Pirates Of The Carribean, and of course Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King.

The summer movies I've enjoyed most so far are LXG and T3(saw it twice already). I also liked the Hulk but T3 and LXG were better IMO.

There were some pretty hilarious jokes, albeit G-rated (is it U-rated in UK?) and the CGI is pretty awesome.

I took my kids to see it, but I saw quite a few teens/adults and they seem to enjoy it as well.

Pretty much, if you liked "Monsters, Inc." or "A Bug's Life", then you'll like "Finding Nemo"

The best summer movie I saw, in my opinion, was The Matrix Reloaded - in fact, it's the only summer movie I've seen. Nothing really seems to grab my attention. Not even Terminator 3.

I actually liked the Hulk. I thought it was interesting that the film makers took the dramatic approach toward a comic book character, instead of all action.

I thought Matrix Reloaded was extremely disappointing. I thought X2 was great and Bruce Almight made me laugh harder than I ever had before. T3 is my favorite so far. I thought the action was amazing and the Terminatrix was hott :). I'm looking foward to seeing LXG when I have the chance.

Summer releases seemed to have peaked a few years ago - it's all teen stuff these days. But this summers fav movie for me - Ripley's Game.

Of the three films I saw in the theater (low on cash plus some killer dvd purchases), I rank T3 at the top, Charlie's Angels 2 in the middle and Matrix Reloaded WAAAAY down at the bottom.

My three favorite films this summer would be.......

1. Pirates of the Caribbean
2. Bad Boys 2
3. Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Three average films that I liked, but I wouldn't say were great, were....

1. American Wedding
2. The Matrix Reloaded
3. The Hulk

Films that I found to be awful..... (I only really hated one film)

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle

However, I will still get the DVD when it comes out, because I am hoping with a second viewing, I will enjoy the movie much more.

Films I am looking forward to seeing........

1. Kill Bill: Vol.1
2. The Matrix: Revolutions
3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

I really enjoyed LXG...
Also, although not technically a summer movie, I saw "UNDERWORLD" last weekend and loved it.

For me, it's a three-way tie between LXG, TERMINATOR 3, and X-MEN 2. Although, to a lesser extent, I did also enjoy PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, JOHNNY ENGLISH, and even FREDDY VS. JASON. THE ITALIAN JOB was also a really, really fun movie which I liked.

I liked THE ITALIAN JOB also, but I grew up with the Michael Caine original so I kept comparing the two movies in my head and thought that THE ITALIAN JOB owed more to the 2001 remake of OCEANS ELEVEN than to the 1960s original.
I never did see TERMINATOR 3, X-MEN 2, HULK or JOHNNY ENGLISH so I cannot comment on them....I was too busy doing other stuff with Tara... :)

Actually, because I so enjoyed the remake, I bought the special edition of the original with Michael Caine (I also enjoy him, so it seemed like a good idea), and finally just watched part of it last night (LATE last night, which is why I didn't finish it yet). It has potential, but seems rather silly (but I guess that is how most 60s movies are in retrospect, not to mention that was before my time).

"YOU WERE ONLY SUPPOSED TO BLOW THE BLOODY DOORS OFF!"

However, I do agree with you that the 2003 ITALIAN JOB does seem more like OCEAN'S ELEVEN so far. I see some parallels between the two JOBs, but the new one definately has that OCEAN'S ELEVEN feel to it.

I was one of five people who saw Hollywood Homicide, and one of three who liked it.

The Region 2 DVD release of THE ITALIAN JOB was one of the first DVDs that I purchased when I got my region free DVD player last year. It was a real favorite growing up and I remember watching it with my family on British television.

Actually, the original movie caused some problems for the people doing the remake.
The Caine original is such a beloved movie in the country of Italy that authorities there were not willing to allow the crew to film in Italy until the director assured them that he too was a fan of the original movie.

My favorite scenes in the 1960s movie are the ones with Noel Coward - what a class act he was!

Yeah, it was a riot how he, although a prisoner, CONTROLLED the prison!

Also it's interesting to think that Fleming wanted for him to play Dr. No...
