I was watching this movie the other day which I hadn't seen in a while. Really cool movie but I was struck at how much it reminded me of Roger's Bond movies. I know it was a nod to the Bond films but in particular I could see Roger's Bond in this. The stunts and some of the humor I could really see him doing. For instance where Harry Tasker is chasing that terrorist on a horse. The whole scene in the elevator being jammed in with the old couple, the humor there just seemed like something you'd see in one of Roger's movies. The end fight on the jet with the head terrorist guy. The way Tasker acting when he was undercover reminded me of Roger's "charming" Bond. Of course Roger is better at that though :). I also noticed Peter Lamont worked on the movie too.

Grace Jones is quoted somewhere as saying that Arnold and Roger have the same sense of humor.

She would know she costarred with Arnie in "Conan: The Destroyer" and Roger in AVTAK :)

Yes I agree.. I feel the same about True Lies! The whole first half has a total Roger Feel.. example: when Arnold sneeks in the party in the very begining.. Roger would have told the chef that there is to much garlic in the food and replace all of it.. also he would talk to everyone while he is walking in..Just like Arnold did!

just think back to Octopussy.. when Roger was sneeking into the base in the begining he flipped a guys button because it wasn't button..

The funny thing or should I say the sad thing is....

True Lies is the LAST Great "Spy/007 type" film made... This film is better then anything Cubby's Kids & Pierce has made..

It isn't even close.. kinda sad that a NON 007 film is better then a 007 film made with Pierce & his era.

True Lies got it right!! They used enough of what was great about Roger's Movies.. but didn't use the clichs like Cubby's Kids use??

very sad & odd:confused:

Jim Cameron got it right! :)

I agree with you 4 Ur Eyez Only, I've been dissapointed in the recent Bond movies too. Licence To Kill was the last one I enjoyed.

I was not that keen on the Timothy Dalton movies. I did really enjoy Pierce Brosnan's "Goldeneye" though, they seemed to get all the ingredients right for that one.

well.. I have to say I loved it! I haven't seen it in a few years.. and all the FX still stand the test of time! It clearly has the Roger 007 blue print stamped all over it!! and John Glen too :)

I think the only difference was they had a more "artisty" Director of Photography filiming it compared to the Bond Crew..

:) But I think it is the best Spy movie since Timothy was fired :).. opps I mean quit:rolleyes::)

yeah this was the next step! which is sad that the BOND Crew didn't make it :)

Everything was bigger.. it had Roger's Era all over it! Sure Arnold can't act/talk but put anyone as "the spy" and everything else works..

bigger was better.

To bad it hasn't happen with James Bond.

There is sooo many "Spy Movies" that are the same or Better then 007 now in this era.. thats sad:confused:

True Lies
Mission Impossible (just ok)
Austin Powers
XXX

Where is the GREAT 007 Movie? What happened? Isn't Bond the one to blow everyone out of the water with stunts, charm, villians & stript?

:)

I thought it was interesting in the reviews of "Johnny English" that I have read that the critics are complaining that the movie rips off "Austin Powers" but they don't even mention the James Bond movies.

yeah on that Johnny English thing.. I think that shows that 007 is out of the mainstream.. when it comes to the next generation.

They decided to say "austin powers" or even I bet "xxx" if you asked a kid under 15.

I think this shows what Cubby's Kids have done to the series :) It is just sad to think or see that "other spy" movies are now as big as the grand daddy of them all :)

something is clearly wrong .. yes they make boat loads of money, but they are not going anymore!

007 should be the biggest Action Movies! thats where the series should have went! NOT ripping off sean/roger and live in the past.

xxx had huge stunts.. kids love that! what is a new stunt from the cubby's kid era? what stunt does anyone talk about? mostly the younger kids!

Thats the generation you want to grab! because right now, they have a bunch of spy films.. that are talked about more the 007

:):)

They better figure it out.. and change quickly!

Will someone please slap some sense into Cubby's kids. Cubby's last words to his kids were not to let them (presumably MGM) mess up the series. He probably didn't realize the people Bond fans had to be most wary of was his own children.

4UrEyezOnly, I don't understand what you're getting at. DAD was so full of action it was ridiculous. In the meantime, it alienated a lot of true Bond fans. How well is a 41-year-old franchise supposed to perform anyway? Austin Powers is a COMEDY - talking about those movies in the same breath as Bond is ridiculous. People don't see Austin Powers because they're spy/action movies - they see them for a laugh. As far as XXX is concerned, Vin Diesel is a minor flavor of the month right now who will soon fade. Besides, DAD outperformed it by some $20 million domestic, so it's a red herring anyway. The depths that DAD had to sink to outperform it, however, are most disturbing.

I think the horse in the elevator scene in True Lies is similar to the jet coming to refuel at a gas station in OP. So, Arnold does have a Moore since of humor after all. Never noticed the likeness before.

In the movie "Commando" Arnie has some lines that at the time were noted by reviewers as not being out of place in a Roger Moore 007 movie.

yeah they do have allot of 007 One Liners in it :) really the editing of the one liner.. (like you say the joke, then jump to the next scene.. is very 007-ish)

True Lies was the Bond film when there was no Bond film. Absolutely!

I remember an old acquaintance of mine who would rip on Bond films all the time (despite never haven seen one) and then he went to TRUE LIES at the theater and loved that movie...I tried to persuade him that he would also love the Bond movies if he liked TRUE LIES.

I often wonder if he ever took my advice!?
