I personally think this is one of the best 007 scores, with GF and TSWLM being the only ones ahead of it. Maybe its just me, but I like the disco themes within the James Bond theme. But, what do you guys think of it?

I liked it too, consider it one of those things in the Bond world that unjustly get a hard time of it. And I liked the disco themes within the Bond theme too. Certainly wouldn't want the score of every Bond film like this, but for one time around I though it was really good.

Bit of a curate's egg - parts fine, parts wretched.

Never did like the ski chase theme; horrifically vapid, and a bit "elevator musicy". Hugely fond of the filthy song at the swimming pool/crossbow bit - even though it's catastrophically terrible it's such unremitting dirt; very funny.

Gunbarrel "novel"; music in the pre-credits is fun and the chord when Bond appears at the top of the cliff to administer a swift kicking I have as the startup noise on my PC, so I guess I like that. Some of the later underwater stuff and the climbing music is fine, probably because its less noticeable (and therefore less annoying) than the skiing stuff.

Not quite as fascinating a departure from Barry as the Live and Let Die score, nor quite as fascinating a departure from music as the one for GoldenEye, it's OK

I liked it, it was pretty interesting for a non-Barry score. I actually liked "Runaway" (the ski chase), until "Runaway with the Rich and Famous" (with Robin Leach) used it as their theme.

His gunbarrel theme is one of the better ones...

I love the version of FYEO that plays when Bond and Melina are in the carriage together, and when they are "driving" through the country together, when they first met. :)

I think it is a fine score, and certainly deserved an oscar nod that year.

Well, it's tough to beat out "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis...

I like the score. It's one of the better non-Barry/Arnold efforts and I look forward to picking up the expanded release soon. The disco-influence may make it sound a bit dated, but not that much worse than Hamlisch or Martin.

Some of the music is fine to listen to on CD, but a lot of it really doesn't go well with the movie.

To date, I'd say that the only decent non-Barry/Arnold score is LIVE AND LET DIE.

I love it! Disco rules! :)

John Barry is the best but I liked the score. It was fun and novel. FYEO was my first Bond in a theater so I have a soft spot for it. ;

This soundtrack is in my top 3 on number 1 and 2.
I can't choose between this score and The living daylights.

I love the non Barry soundtracks, as they provide a fresh perspective on the Bond Theme and also they tend to be fairly indicative of the state of music at the time, for instance Live and Let Die reeks of funk, whilst For Your Eyes Only has early eighties disco influences, and although sometimes the music is laughably cheesy (the opening sequence in the helicopter as Bond pulls the wire is an example) it is also at the same time stupidly catchy.

I'd expect nothing less then catchy disco from the man who scored Rocky, though, and it delivers!

FYEO is a good example of a Bond score reflecting the time of the film's release - it was appropriate that the disco score came into to play in the disco era.

Say what you may, but in my humble opinion it wasn't a bad score for its time; when played today it does sound very dated.

Interesting coincidence: both Bill Conti and I graduated from the same high school (North Miami Senior High School, North Miami, Florida). Different years, though. (He's Class of 1959, I'm Class of 1983.)

Actually I love disc. It is a nice change from John Barry and Arnold too, obviously not all songs are great, and some now sound a little dated but that doesn't bother me. Bill did a fine job, I wish he had a chance to score another one, but alas he seems occupied with the Academy lately. Definitely in my top 5!

I enjoy the score as well. It's nice to have action themes that don't rely solely on the Bond Theme, not that I have a problem with it but it's a nice breath of fresh air.
