Yeah, I think Flemings sort of changes it after the first few books (from memory in CR Bond bought a car in 1933). For the second half of his series anyway, 1924 seems to me to be the correct birth year for 007, my opinion though. :)

The obituary in YOLT says Bond "claimed the age of 19" in 1941, so obviously he was a year or two younger, making 1924 make sense as a birth year.

Bond's age varies from a birth year of 1916 to 1924 depending on which novel your reading. Bond's age is always between 37-39 in Fleming's novels.

I agree with 37-39 theories.

I've always used the Moonraker math as my guide.

"...it was his ambition to have as little as possible in his banking account when he was killed, as, when he was depressed he knew he would be, before the statutory age of 45.

Eight years to go before he was automatically taken off the OO list and given a staff job at Headquarters."

Moonraker - Chapter 1 "Secret Paper-Work"

Hence, he's 37 in '55 - therefore 1918 is one posibility.

From what I understand, the Moonraker math really screws it up. The later books are the best source for his age. That Bond page at speakeasy.org has a lot of info on it.

The early books lead you to believe that Bond was born in 1920, the later 1924. John Pearson's James Bond, The Authorized Biography Of 007 puts the date on 11 November, 1920.

I don't know where I found this, but I copied it onto my computer.
I hope it helps.
