Who started the tuxedoed Bond in gunbarrel?

But why? True, Bond was first introduced in a dinner suit, but had we first saw him in LALD, he would have been wearing nothing, then a pyjama coat. So would we then see him in a pyjama coat (or nothing!) during the gunbarrels? No.
So what symbol does a dinner suit have for Bond (rather than a business suit)? It could mean that he spends quite a lot of evenings formally, but we often don't find the shooting side of Bond wearing a dinner suit (notable exceptions to that). And if the dinner suit is such a 'symbol' (as many people would have us know) why wasn't it used earlier on?
Not that I mind the dinner suit. Just asking.

I think Connery's intro in a tux in Dr. No started the Bond tux association.

Moore was a self-styalist (he chose all his wardrobe for The persuaders) and most likely asked Cubby if he's mind if Bond wore a tux on a more regular basis, including the gunbarrel sequence. Cubby may have just shrugged and said, "Why not." Since then it's just ingrained into our minds that Bond wears a tux.
Bond wearing a tux reinforced how debonaire and swank he really is when he's not down 'n' dirty in the sewers of villaindom.

Actually, Connery started doing it in Thunderball because the film was shot in Panavision. Then for Sean's subsequent Eon Bonds the same footage was reused.Originally posted by BONDFINESSE 007
ACTUALLY SEAN CONNERY DID NOT DO HIS GUN BARREL SCENE UNTILL DAF, THE GUY WE SEE IS HIS STUNT DOUBLE BOB SIMMONS, when i first read that i am like no way, but after looking really hard you can tell its not sean, and they never gave a good reason for this only to say it was ceaper for the stunt guy to do then sean

I agree that's Connery's intro in Dr. No started it and it became part of the lore as the series went on. It's as guaranteed as beautiful women, evil villains, exotic locales and gadgets.

He has one hand hold the gun, and the other to keep the aim steady. That's the natural way to hold a gun and shoot.
Sean (or stuntman) look like they are about to fall over when they appear in the shot.
Timothy looks like he just wants to get it overwith. I really wonder about this guy - accordig to John Glen TD wanted to walk around with his hands in his pocket - that was his idea for Bond.
Pierce - his pose is a little like Moore - but he just points and shoots. I like Moore's - his walk is so confident and then he holds the gun with both hands.

Yeah, his is unique. After a longer than normal beginning in which the gunbarrel stops midway through to reveal a credit reading "Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman present", Lazenby does the normal walk, whirls around drops to one knee and fires. Quite different than any of the others.

Bondfinesse, I think the previous poster was referring to the scene at the beginning of Dr. No at the casino where Sean Connery is wearing a tux.

But who am I kidding, when I put on nice clothes, I think I look like James Bond!
As for my favourite gunbarrel walk/shot, it's a tie between Lazenby and Moore. They both look as if they are actually shooting at a sniper. Simmons/Connery are okay, but Dalton (have to watch again, though) and Brosnan seem too relaxed. Yes, we know you are cool, Mr Bond, that's what the nice duds show us. I hardly think one could hit the gunman with a PPK in one hand. Thus, the later gunbarrels don't make Bond look as deadly.
Doesn't Moore use a revolver, at least once?

Am I right in thinking Moore uses a revolver in his gunbarrels?

Connery was never in the gunbarrel sequence in Dr NO. That was Bob Simmons , and he was in a Business suit and a hat . Connery appearred in the gunbarrel form "Thunderball" since that was the first Bond shot in panvision in 1965 . Moore was in a suit from 1973 to 1977 when a new gunbarrel was shot for "TSWLM" . It 's been a Tuxedoed Bond ever since.Originally posted by zencat
Actually, I think Moore started it in TSWLM. I think he's in a suit in LALD and TMWTGG.
