I didn't know that, but it turns out that he was an 'achterneef' (I don't know how do you say achterneef; nephew-in-nephew?) of Ian Fleming! Perhaps therefore he plays a very close IaN Fleming-villain

They played up that the two were related when The Man With The Golden Gun was first released. Also that Mr. Lee was Ian's choice to play Dr. No.

Ian wantet Christhoper Lee to play in Dr. No, Ian also wanted his neihgbour to play the roll of Dr. No. When he told that to his neighbour hi just say'd "no, no, no Ian!"

Interesting. I never knew that Lee and Fleming were related before. In regards to Lee not playing Dr. No, what were the reasons behind that move, do you know?

Was it a casting decision made by the film's casting director? Did Terence Young prefer a different face for the personality of the villain? Or did Fleming simply not play an active role in the decision-making process.

Bond history is always fascinating.

Fleming's neighbour was Noel Coward.

I just checked out the cover for James Bond's London. It has a forward by Lee about Fleming. The cover states they are cousins.

Fleming sent a telegram to Noel Coward asking him to play Dr. No....That is all covered on one of the special edition DVD documentaries. Since Fleming was a friend of Noels, the producers asked him to ask the actor/writer to take the part.
