I get the feeling how SP left off we'll be getting a 2017 release.

What do you fellow 00's think?

I would like a closer release date for sure, but the films seem to benefit from an extra year of work. If a good story can be developed in time then bring it on in 2017. Perhaps if they slim the films a bit in terms of set pieces, with a tenser, character-driven narrative and only, say, two major action set pieces instead of four or five this will give the film makers enough time to breathe and create one for 2017. In any regard, I would enjoy a film driven more by suspense and characters in just one or two well-explored locations over globe hopping from one major action scene to another.

No way it'll be 2017. After all the complaints about SPECTRE and their apparent willingness to move on from P&W before they had to beg them back to fix Logan's mess, I'd imagine that they'll take their time to retool things and bring brand new writers in to take a crack at the script. I think they've reached the point where they can no longer continue on with their usual writers and the search for new scribes will take some time.

I'd say we're probably in for another three year wait, as well.

I'd agree and say that 2018 is the earliest that we see it. 2016 will most likely be spent reevaluating where to take the franchise from where it currently is and searching for a new writer(s) to take over the franchise since I think it's fairly clear that they have to go in a different direction in that part of the creative team. Then they'll have to spend some time finding someone to succeed Mendes, which might take some time since they had some trouble doing so before ultimately going back to Mendes a year after he turned them down following Skyfall.

I think we're looking at 2018.  I mentioned this in another thread too.  Marvel has claimed first week November releases in 2016, 2017, but not yet 2018.  Throw Star Wars into the mix, and two Avatar sequels, and it's looking pretty crowded.  Quantum of Solace is the only Bond movie in the last sixteen years to come two years after its predecessor.

November 9, 2018.

I'd say that's a pretty good guess for the release date. I guess it'll also depend on Craig, whether or not he's coming back for the next one. If he is, I think you're right, that it'll be early November of 2018. If not, we could be looking at another 4-year gap like we had between Die Another Day and Casino Royale.

I'd be surprised if any of the writers were back. The script is taking such a beating in the reviews that I just don't see how, especially after all of the previous criticism of the writing team, that EON will be able to bring them back, even if the wanted to.

It's time for a reboot of the series, but not necessarily in terms of the story, but rather in terms of the creative team that will be crafting the upcoming films.

Sony and EON seemed to credit Purvis and Wade with saving the script from oblivion after Logan's efforts, so there's a chance they would be offered a first stab at offering up a story idea. Also, I could imagine Butterworth doing a polish, although he may be a Mendes factor rather than someone who EON would go to on his own.

Logan is the only one I am absolutely convinced is out.

I wonder at which stage Butterworth actually contributed what to the script.

I'd say another a usual 3 year gap, but they seem (from what I gather) to have seeds planted for 'Bond25' so wouldn't think it would be a story from scratch.

But that means nothing in terms of writing and production, so 3 years is safer. As DC said, it takes a good 2 years to iron everything out ready to actually start the filming.

Unless they've already got the story and a rough draft of the script completed, I expect to see Bond 25 in 2018. These films require so much pre-production, that it's amazing it can go from pre-production to post-production in only about 6 months. Not to mention, there's the impending sale of the Bond license to complicate matters. I agree with the assumption of most that John Logan is out. While he is credited for polishing the Skyfall script, it was his failure that led to the plodding Spectre one. I honestly, feel that a shake-up is in order. Mendes needs to go. I loved his work on Skyfall, but it was too hands on with Spectre. A new director could do wonders for Bond 25.

I have to admit though, I'm not sure how I feel about the 3 year gap. It's happened 3 times in Bond's history (TSWLM, DAD, SP) and twice it hasn't worked out very well. I'd say, I'd be fine with either a 2 or 4 year wait. The longer waits (GE, CR, SF) have led to some of the series' greatest entries. Though, I wouldn't mind a Bond film every 2 years like we used to get. I mean, if Disney can get SW: Episode VIII out just 2 years after Episode VII, then surely EON can pump out another Bond film 2 years after Spectre.

It´s not the Bond licence that goes on sale.  The open question is only: which new distributor will MGM choose for its entire slate, and Bond films are only one part of that (albeit a big part).

Since Wilson mentioned that the decision will be made in January or February 2016, they could move on BOND 25 very quickly.

A longer development process actually does not yield better results, only more time for more people to interfere.

I´m sure that EON - despite Wilson´s denials - has very firm ideas on how to proceed, probably with Purvis & Wade already secretly writing a treatment (or having written it).

They will look at the grosses of SPECTRE, of course, and then sort out which way to go.

They want Craig back - but if the grosses ultimately disappoint and Craig wants to bow out after all, then - and only then - I could imagine BOND 25 being delayed to 2018, due to the search and the establishing of a new actor.

If Craig comes back, Mendes will be lured back as well.  And then it´s a question of how fast they can agree on a script.  The new distributor will want to play it safe and see returns as fast as possible.

November 9, 2018.

My birthday. Excellent :)

Definitely expect a 3-year wait, based on Craig's comments alone.

Unless that top secret 2017 project Christopher Nolan's working on is actually the next Bond... :P

Oh god, I hope not. If Christopher Nolan had been tapped for that elusive and lost 2010 Bond film, I would've said yes. However, Nolan post-Dark Knight Rises is just awful. Nor do I want Hans Zimmer's organ farts anywhere near 007.

In fairness, Nolan has only done one film since TDKR. I agree that INTERSTELLAR was rough, but the rest of his track record is pretty solid.

I take it all the changes were his then?  Or did P&W work with him?

True he hasn't done much, but I was also including The Dark Knight Rises on his bad list. I probably should have said post-Inception. I still have nightmares about that film (except Anne Hathaway in her catwoman suit  )

I've been working on a timeline. P&W did work before that time. Their third act was fairly different than what we got, I think.

Also: INTERSTELLAR is the best film Nolan has made. It's clunky and silly, like many of the sci-fi works in the same tradition, but it has something no other Nolan film has: humanity.

Interesting.

And - I also think INTERSTELLAR is a pretty good movie.  Do I desperately want Nolan to do a Bond film?  No.  But if he ever directed one it would certainly be interesting.

A Nolan-directed Bond film is just something that I have no desire to see, especially after Mendes already did his best Nolan impression with Skyfall.

Couldn't agree more.

Unfortunately, I suspect he'll be on EON's shortlist.

Thanks to Mendes he did what looks like a Nolan picture.. I dont need Nolan or Mendes back .. Even the ending of both (SF,SP) was influenced by how Nolan ends his movies ..

November 2018 is the probable scenario for Bond 25, if Craig will indeed come back for another one. But if he ends up going separate ways with Eon, I guess 2019 or even 2020 could be the case, depending on the search for a new James Bond.

I would love to see 2017, but the odds are very long indeed. I'd say 2018. If they shaved the moves down to 2 hours, or QOS running time, then you might be able to do a 2017 date. I sense a major reboot of the writers and I think Mendes is gone. Reviews were pretty critical, and Mendes didn't shine in Spectre. Mendes was terrible imo. Anyway, let George Miller or Martin Campbell take the helm. Two major action sequences (ala Casino, Miami and the finale). Well, 3 main sequences, with the PTS. That would trim down the price tag and allow for a more concise story. P.S. no more camp, please!  I think George Miller would bring a fresh and unique aura to Bond. Look at Mad Max Fury Road. Amazing work.

Risky choice. Miller's Bond could be... mediocre ;)
