While the Cold War (World War 2 as well) provided a rich fodder of material for espionage novelists, almost all novels I've come across of this genre have been British & American. I'm sure the Soviet Union had its own spy novelists, but I've not encountered any, not even English translations. I'm surprised to have not seen any German spy novel; the partition of Germany during the Cold War should've provided plenty of incidents for German spy novelists.

Could somebody suggest some good examples of non-British & American spy fiction? Language, country & era no bar.

Edit: If you click on the Character section, each character is listed as to whether they are US, British, Swiss, whatever...

There's even a Bulgarian novel from the 60's, Avakum Zakhov vs. 07, in which the Bulgarian hero outwits a British spy who more than slightly resembles a certain well-known agent.  Unfortunately, copies in English are very rare (and very expensive).
