Midsomer Norton's Community Cinema will celebrate a milestone with a showing of the latest James Bond movie.

Skyfall is being screened at the evening showcase at 7.30pm on Saturday in the town hall.

While the James Bond brand celebrates his 50th anniversary this year, the cinema will be marking its first birthday this month.

Midsomer Norton Mayor Paul Myers said: "That the Community Cinema has attained this milestone is thanks to the dedication and commitment of a group of volunteers who have been able to develop a growing and loyal audience."

He paid tribute to the partnership between the Sarah Ann Trust, which runs the town hall and Bath Film Festival, and the sponsorship of Bath and North East Somerset Council and Creative England.

Mr Myers said: "This venture has created an important social and entertainment opportunity during the past year."

He said the clock could not be turned back to the days when the town had its own cinema.

Mr Myers added: "Whilst it is unlikely to be ever realistic to revive the Palladium, the town hall makes a great venue with its full-size cinema screen, comfy seating and friendly atmosphere."

Hailed by critics as one of the best Bond movies of all time, Skyfall presents 007 in his 23rd film, set against the backdrop of sumptuous visuals.

Directed by Sam Mendes, and starring Daniel Craig in the lead role, it is now the highest-grossing film of all time.
