Tonight was Sony Pictures' chance to shine at CinemaCon with an impressive 45-minute sizzle reel of their upcoming 2012 line-up with the high point being the first time anyone had a chance to see any footage from the upcoming James Bond movie SkyFall, in this case the very first teaser trailer. Before we got to watch it, Sony's President of Worldwide Distribution Rory Bruer talked about Sony's slate for 2013 and beyond and confirmed that James Bond would indeed be back in 2014 with the 24th movie in the franchise and the follow-up to 'Skyfall'

But the expectations of the studio might not be compatible with the rhythm EON has in mind. So, let´s take this with a grain of salt, shall we?

This really gives hope that the Bond films will be back to how they used to be, every 2 years - possibly 3 if needed.
It gives faith that EON feel back on track with things, and they have the team to really put back into the films what is wanted, so fingers crossed we get some good developments on Bond 24...god, 'Skyfall' isn't even out yet and we're touching on Bond 24, how much of a turn up for the books is that!

Could they hold onto M's office? If so, one less set piece for Bond 24.

It would certainly be a stretch to expect them to have settled on a title for the next film already, but as long as they just put, 'James Bond will return' at the end of the credits, that would be fine. I love that little Bond tradition, don't think I've ever seen it in another film series actually.
The "(insert name here) will return in (insert title here)" formula was ripped off by the Matt Helm series, but they failed when they put one at the end of the fourth film and it never got made... so it can backfire after the fact. I hope we don't have to worry about that ever seeing that happen with the Bond series.
If this is absolutely true, that's great. That means no more waiting three or four years, for the time being. I would like to see what they could do with that amount of time in filming, as Quantum of Solace had an identical amount of time between Casino Royale, yet it didn't turn out that well (to most fans).
I agree with others that the writers' strike caused a lot of problems with QoS. There's also the fact that CR was already being developed with Brosnan as Bond... so there was probably a good amount of location scouting and (possibly) a few early drafts already started/finished for that film.

What was being worked on after DIE ANOTHER DAY was the JINX spin-off film, with Stephen Frears set to direct. But then EON decided to push the whole Bond franchise in a new direction, and that was put on hold, as was the idea of any future Bond films with Brosnan as star.
Furthermore, it wasn't just the writer's strike that hurt QUANTUM OF SOLACE. It's that the story for QUANTUM OF SOLACE was thrown out twice before (P&W's draft was tossed aside in favor of Haggis' "Vesper's child" concept, which was then tossed aside in favor of the story we got). That meant things were especially rushed.

The Spy Who Loved Me ran with "James Bond will return in For Your Eyes Only", but the next film was "Moonraker", so it hasn't been 100%.The "(insert name here) will return in (insert title here)" formula was ripped off by the Matt Helm series, but they failed when they put one at the end of the fourth film and it never got made... so it can backfire after the fact. I hope we don't have to worry about that ever seeing that happen with the Bond series.

I thought this had already been confirmed some time ago, but it's good to hear it from a Sony representative.
MGM, when it was in bankruptcy court, filed a reorganization plan (essentially a blueprint how it intended to become a viable business). Part of that plan called for getting the Bond series back on an every-other-year schedule. This was before MGM and Sony did their deal where Sony would release Bond 23 and Bond 24.
I hope they can make it so.
But the expectations of the studio might not be compatible with the rhythm EON has in mind. So, let´s take this with a grain of salt, shall we?
Point taken. MGM *wants* a Bond movie every other year (stated in reorganization plan filed during bankruptcy). Sony *wants* the next film in two years and is planning on it (otherwise it wouldn't make a public announcement). But Eon, unless it were to sell out, controls the *production* of films. Maybe they've agreed to. but I'd prefer to see that from Eon.
