From Comingsoon.net.

Tonight was Sony Pictures' chance to shine at CinemaCon with an impressive 45-minute sizzle reel of their upcoming 2012 line-up with the high point being the first time anyone had a chance to see any footage from the upcoming James Bond movie SkyFall, in this case the very first teaser trailer. Before we got to watch it, Sony's President of Worldwide Distribution Rory Bruer talked about Sony's slate for 2013 and beyond and confirmed that James Bond would indeed be back in 2014 with the 24th movie in the franchise and the follow-up to 'Skyfall'

Agreed. I wonder if Mendes is lined up to direct the next one as well.

Oh just imagine if we got a JAMES BOND WILL BE BACK IN at the end of Skyfall. One can only hope.

Don't read too much into that yet - 'follow-up' was Edward Douglas' choice of words, not EON's.

Great news. No, they don't mean literal "follow-up". They just mean the next one.

I thought this had already been confirmed some time ago, but it's good to hear it from a Sony representative.

Watch Skyfall on Blu-ray for all of 2013 - and then gear up again for another round of filming, trailers and anticipation with Bond 24. Sounds good to me.

Great news! I'm not surprised, but it's nice to hear that we don't have to wait 3-4 years again.

Yup, not a long gap between the excitement this time it seems. The phrase follow up simply means another film. Still, we knew this a while back, but it's excellent to hear it reiterated.

Outstanding. With a (relatively) firm release date in place, fingers crossed for a steady stream of information beginning to trickle down from next year onwards. It wouldn't surprise me if work on the script will be well under way by the end of this year.

I hope they can make it so.

But the expectations of the studio might not be compatible with the rhythm EON has in mind. So, let´s take this with a grain of salt, shall we?

It would certainly be a stretch to expect them to have settled on a title for the next film already, but as long as they just put, 'James Bond will return' at the end of the credits, that would be fine. I love that little Bond tradition, don't think I've ever seen it in another film series actually.

Not a surprise SONY would be out for a fast BOND 24. But if this really is to happen there would have to be first stirrings of the production anaconda fairly soonish. We shall see.

Brilliant news!

This really gives hope that the Bond films will be back to how they used to be, every 2 years - possibly 3 if needed.

It gives faith that EON feel back on track with things, and they have the team to really put back into the films what is wanted, so fingers crossed we get some good developments on Bond 24...god, 'Skyfall' isn't even out yet and we're touching on Bond 24, how much of a turn up for the books is that!

I think EON has never really been off track, their partners were. If not for that SF could perhaps have been made about a year sooner. There's no indication they'd ever stop making Bond films as long as they return a profit.

Fair point Dustin. I think it's just good to hear EON have got control of things, and thier partners seem fixed now, which is very positive in this day and age, so the already announcement for 2014 is very exciting!

Was hoping for Bond 24 in Summer 2015 for James to dominate a portion of the summer box office. 2014 is good though! That means with (reportedly) The Girl Who Played with fire will film in the Fall of this year and lead into next year. then Bond begins. At least I think.

Great news. Perhaps SF sets up so many possibilities they are confident they can produce Bond24 in that time. Very exciting.

Could they hold onto M's office? If so, one less set piece for Bond 24.

If this is absolutely true, that's great. That means no more waiting three or four years, for the time being. I would like to see what they could do with that amount of time in filming, as Quantum of Solace had an identical amount of time between Casino Royale, yet it didn't turn out that well (to most fans).

QOS was more star-crossed than rushed. As long as there isn't another writers' strike, I won't worry too much about Bond 24 being a repeat of QOS.

They had a lot riding on QOS being a sequel as such, it wouldn't surprise me if they already have a story in mind for Bond 24.

The "(insert name here) will return in (insert title here)" formula was ripped off by the Matt Helm series, but they failed when they put one at the end of the fourth film and it never got made... so it can backfire after the fact. I hope we don't have to worry about that ever seeing that happen with the Bond series.

I agree with others that the writers' strike caused a lot of problems with QoS. There's also the fact that CR was already being developed with Brosnan as Bond... so there was probably a good amount of location scouting and (possibly) a few early drafts already started/finished for that film.

CASINO ROYALE was never developed with Brosnan in mind.

What was being worked on after DIE ANOTHER DAY was the JINX spin-off film, with Stephen Frears set to direct. But then EON decided to push the whole Bond franchise in a new direction, and that was put on hold, as was the idea of any future Bond films with Brosnan as star.

Furthermore, it wasn't just the writer's strike that hurt QUANTUM OF SOLACE. It's that the story for QUANTUM OF SOLACE was thrown out twice before (P&W's draft was tossed aside in favor of Haggis' "Vesper's child" concept, which was then tossed aside in favor of the story we got). That meant things were especially rushed.

Pretty sure the tossing out the window of the Vesper's Child script annoyed Haggis to no end. I recall reading he had been rather pleased with it, but the producers felt it wasn't in line with the Bond character. It also sounds very, very similar to The Bourne Supremacy.

The Spy Who Loved Me ran with "James Bond will return in For Your Eyes Only", but the next film was "Moonraker", so it hasn't been 100%.

I thought this had already been confirmed some time ago, but it's good to hear it from a Sony representative.

MGM, when it was in bankruptcy court, filed a reorganization plan (essentially a blueprint how it intended to become a viable business). Part of that plan called for getting the Bond series back on an every-other-year schedule. This was before MGM and Sony did their deal where Sony would release Bond 23 and Bond 24.

I hope they can make it so.

But the expectations of the studio might not be compatible with the rhythm EON has in mind. So, let´s take this with a grain of salt, shall we?

Point taken. MGM *wants* a Bond movie every other year (stated in reorganization plan filed during bankruptcy). Sony *wants* the next film in two years and is planning on it (otherwise it wouldn't make a public announcement). But Eon, unless it were to sell out, controls the *production* of films. Maybe they've agreed to. but I'd prefer to see that from Eon.

Glad to see this officially confirmed from Sony. Makes sense given Craig has the Dragon Tattoo movies to shoot plus he isn't getting any younger. They slip back to a 3-4 year cycle & he probably has one more movie left in him.

I suppose SONY aren't just going to take MGM's place for SF and BOND 24; there's probably also some kind of timeframe involved in that deal i. e. do both films within four years, otherwise the franchise reverts back to MGM or there's a substantial fine. If there wasn't SONY could simply delay until MGM once more is struggling, thus getting the series permanently.
