I don't need any Kool-Aid. L4YRCAKE, I'm with you all the way. CR is an extraordinary James Bond film. I don't know if "Skyfall" will be better, but everything I'm seeing indicates that it will be very, very good.
I cannot disagree more strongly with all of the above comments. Eva Green was perfect casting for Vesper. The character was inherently a dark yet vulnerable contradiction and none of the other actresses named above could have pulled off what EG did with that role.
And Casino Royale isn't overrated, it's a perfect start for a character that needs to be reintroduced to the world in a more modern emotional context. It's a great film because it points to the potential of a decade or more of great Bond films, and gives Bond a trajectory he never had in his 50 year history on film. And that is in no way saying it's The Great Bond Film. Rather it will be remembered as the first of many.
Still drinking the EON Kool-Aid, huh?
Hah! You're welcome to interpret my point of view however you like.
How confident are you that SkyFall will be as good as CR?

Everything else that we've seen so far, especially Deakins' cinematography, looks like nothing we've ever seen before. The very fact that Bardem signed on to do Skyfall speaks volumes, and Fiennes' involvement is a magnificent coup too.

The cast, the locations, the composer, and the general feel, I believe will all really make this film a stand-out.
It's a full house for sure, but there is always chance it could end up being a flush.
Either way, I have it beating out CR at the end of the day.

Thanks, Major! Well, story aside, it's going to be one beautiful film, the stills and set photos they've released really are something, aren't they? The neon highways in Hong Kong alone are going to be utterly breathtaking. And a ghost town on a Japanese island...? I feel like we're going to see nods to From Russia With Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, and The Man With The Golden Gun, along with something else new entirely.
Skyfall will be one of the best Bond films we have ever seen, as long as they don't
Spoiler

The massive spoiler that won't be named is really making me nervous, I really hope the rumors are wrong. I really really really really really really want Ralph Fiennes to be Blofeld, not the other...
All things considered, I have considerably high hopes for Skyfall. Even from what little details we've gotten thus far, something tells me it'll be one of the best entries in the whole series.

In the interviews they really seem to have that confident gleam in their eyes, don't you think? Like they really know this one's going to be good and we're never going to guess what it is they've got up their sleeves. If it flops, which I'm pretty sure it won't, it would probably be considered the biggest flop in the history of popular cinema.

The cast-I like the additions of Bardem & Fiennes in this movie, as well as injecting some new actresses which has been a Bond Film Staple over the years.
The director-Sam Mendes has an Oscar win, I don't think any other Bond Director has one, but can he handle an action film? I will reserve judgement on that one.
The Music-I admit I don't know if David Arnold is doing the music, did hear a rumor Adele is doing the theme song.
The "Characters"-Q, Bill Tanner both seem to be back (Where's Moneypenney?)
In the end, I am really looking forward to this movie/film for a couple of reasons: this might be the best year I have had going to movies in my life (In a Calendar year: Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Star Trek & James Bond), and the thrill of a new exciting Bond movie/film coming out! While I have to fight the urge to go to the Spoiler Section, I have high hopes, but don't want to cast those hopes too high and end up disappointed. Will it be as good as CR? Will it be Die Another Day? November 9th can't get here fast enough IMO and those questions will be answered then.

For your information, Thomas Newman is doing the score for SKYFALL but there is no confirmation of the theme song yet, although Adele seems to be top of the list.

Haven't posted on anything Bond in a while, so I'll give my 2 cents (or less )

Glad to hear you're having a great movie year, hcmv. Although I think SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL comes out in Summer 2013. Just to prepare you....
Anyhow, being one of the few on this board who actually thought CASINO ROYALE could've been better, I am feeling more and more confident that SKYFALL will trounce it. The indicators:
1. Sam Mendes is a stellar director
2. The script seems atypical but still Bondian
3. The movie doesn't hinge on a romance that could hinder the film if the female lead or the relationship is not compelling (as with Vesper played by Eva Green in CR). Rather it appears to hinge on Bond's relationship with M, which we already know is solid and intriguing.
4, There will be more a sense of fun this time and less angst.
All in all, I will be very surprised if SKYFALL falls short or even just on a par with CR. It will be even better than CR.

I’m afraid it will be worse that CR in some ways. I fear, despite his promises of a lighter, more comical Bond than we’ve seen recently, that Mendes is incapable of producing a lighter, more comical Bond Film. Tonally, heaviness is his modus operandi, whether forms of comedy are present in the script or not.

Not my cup of tea I´m afraid. Prometheus on the other hand. But that is a film, as is the Hobbit. Bond is more than that. Bond is...well...Bond.There is still the Hobbit part 1 to enjoy this year.

Regarding #3, that's why I can't figure out the reasoning behind the spoiler that dare not speak its name. I hope the rumors are a red herring. In fact, I've been guessing if there even is truth to it maybe it's not Judy Dench's character they're referring to...?

How do we know this? Even if we do, there's only so many ways you can shoot the traditional gunbarrel.
Gunbarrel done by Deakins &co...WOW! Now that should be something.
Since the gunbarrel itself seems to be animated/cgi these days, I dunno how much Deakins could add to it, although I'm hopeful they surprise us with something beautiful, yet classic. Have to add that I think Daniel Craig's pose in QOS at the end of the sequence is the weakest of the lot so far, I'm sure he had someone advise him on the correct stance and all for firing a gun in that manner so there's logic behind it, but... it looks awkward to me, I hope they improve upon it. I find Roger Moore's pose the most interesting to date, the others look lazy and Connery's in particular just looks like my dad pretending in the mirror when he thinks nobody's watching.

Layer, hello... I have a feeling that the Spoiler will come to pass - but perhaps in a way we are not fearing or expecting. Maybe said major player will retire and sip Margaritas by the sea like Thelma And Louise - and get the occasional postcard from Jimbo and Ms. Evie M. from the front office about their final adventure together.
We shall see...
