Bond failing on a mission? - I doubt the producers would let that happen at the end of the film, but at the end of the pre title credits - well it would work because it's already happened in DAD. It would have made for an even more interesting send off for Pierce Brosnan, were it not for the 40th anniversary hang ups the film was loaded with.

I've already suggested on this site a diversion which didn't meet with universal acclaim, but I'll repeat it - that "M" - the "M" for example who succeeds the current incumbent - is found to be working for the opposition, and it's down to Bond to prove this, with his own side trying to stop him. If nothing else, the infamous scene from the start of the book TMWTGG finally could be worked into the film series, with Bond confronting M with a gun not at the start of the story but the end, and not because 007 is brainwashed but because he has proof that his superior is a traitor.

Have I gone too far yet again with this plot suggestion? Let's see.

No...
I couldn't see that. The betrayals of MI-6 as depicted in GOLDENEYE & DAD were tenuous at best. I think to attack M's character & sense of loyalty would erode the foundation of the OO7 formula. (There's just got to be somethings that you can ALWAYS depend on.)

Moreover, someone had suggested that Bond & Moneypenny become romatically involved. That too, is a really REALLY bad idea. She's like the kid sister of MI-6. That relationship one of the few good aspects of OO7's life.

Here's an idea... Let's say Bond knows the villain is the guilty antagonist but he just can't prove it. What if he went about killing off his enemy's rivals in such a manor that the villain has no idea who or why is doing it? Whatever heinous plot the villain has conceived, it would have to be sidelined because the villain finds himself hunted by every law enforcement agency in the free world.

It would make for a great psycological thriller because the villain could be perceptively portrayed as a "victim" so to speak.

Bond never kills in cold-blood for no reason.

I'd like to see another 00 agent who does not a) die within 10 minutes B) turn out to be a traitor. Maybe an older agent Bond is assigned to work with who mentors Bond (would have worked in Casino Royale perhaps).

Too late for mentoring Craig - it will have to wait for Bond #30.

...Just as long as it isn't handled like the 'mentoring' scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

I don't know about that. That guy in the Mercedes looked pretty helpless as he went over the cliff in FYEO.

That was hardly for no reason.

Guy was driving a black Mercedes after all...

Orlov's Merc was black - and Bond drove it.

Just sayin'...

True, but the guy had just killed Bond's ally (Luigi), so there's actually a reason.
On the other hand, if I understood your idea correctly, Bond would go on a gratuitous killing spree just to drag the villain away from his lair.

Or we could have Craig mentoring a new 00-agent. Craig could be the Liam Neeson of Batman Begins! Craig would obviously have to do it when he's much older, but I could see it.

I highly doubt Bond is the "mentoring" kind of figure. Is a loner, doing things for Queen & Country but on his own and in his own terms. Besides, as far as respecting the rules go, he wouldn't be very good at mentoring anyone! ;)

This is in fact one of the few things in the Gardners I for one absolutely could not imagine. In one of the later books, I forget which, Gardner wrote Bond would from time to time help with the training of new SIS agents, give lectures and such. I didn't see that at all.

Intriguing. I really don't think it fits the character.

I'd like to see the return of Bond skiing and in the Canadian Rockies.

Thanks for the plug, SF.

Even if the Rockies were only doubling for another location (like Baffin Island for the Austrian Alps in TSWLM), it would be great to see the EON team come to Canada and make use of our scenery.

Victoria, BC was a location in John Gardner's Brokenclaw, as well as Mike Grell's dreadful 'Permission to Die.' I say it's time to send the cinematic 007 to Canada for some reason or another.

Unless, of course, he can again convince M to send him to Nassau instead (hell, I'd do it).
