Personally, I'll wait until I see the movie to start worrying about anything.

I don't see this is as the start of a dangerous trend at all. I think it's great that they are attracting talent like Mendes, Bardem, Fiennes, etc., and it can only help the franchise attract great talent down the line, especially if the film turns out well and the likes of Bardem, Mendes, and Fiennes all enjoy working on the project.

I agree. I just find it interesting that so many who were less than thrilled (or better: hateful) when Mendes was announced now have embraced this.

Mendes won me over with his enthusiasm. It's as simple as that. But he still has to deliver the goods.

It's not as if we hadn't had reason to be optimistic before. Only to be disappointed in the end. So the proof - as always - is in the cake.

I don't think it will be a problem at all! And for those who are worried that the Bond films will become too dark, too serious or too high-brow...remember, the Bond franchise has typically been very cyclical indeed in terms of tone and art direction. So after the serious espionage drama that was From Russia with Love, we had the flamboyant Goldfinger; the campy and sci-fi Die Another Day was conversely followed by the dark and gritty reboot that was Casino Royale...

Also, even if Skyfall does end up being the best Bond film ever, it doesn't mean that the franchise will be ruined if future films don't live up to it. Hell, From Russia with Love is often considered the best Bond film and it was only the SECOND entry...yet no one would call the 20 films that followed failures!
