Blimey. Why are they releasing it so long after the original release? Think they did enough editions.

Even if you didn't like the book, it is a hell of an investment.

I am a bibliophile. I love James Bond. If you have the funds to buy, you'll get a much better return than you would from bonds (no, the other kind that are about to drop in the crapper value-wise on both sides of the pond,) real estate, or stocks.

They could come out with Carte Blanche: The Supository Edition made with real cocoa butter and I'd buy up. Yes, JIM and David, I left that one wide open, so to speak, for you guys.

Heck, I buy special editions of the Twilight books, even if they have the literary value of a million vampiric monkeys typing on a million typewriters.

I enjoyed the book, for what it was, but I'd be buying either way.

Now, I actually found Carte Blanche an OK read, but I frankly do not see it worthy of a red-leather treatment. Basically what's happening here is that they are getting themselves an extra £50,000 in revenues (probably £48,000 of pure profit) by reselling a book to people who will mostly already have read it and quite possibly already own more than one copy of it. And it will sell out, the buyers will have something that most likely holds its value or increases in value. But fundamentally it's just a mediocre paperback wrapped in leather with a bullet (and looking at that picture, it's really extremely ugly).

And people complain that the banking system has gone mad!

Photo. Think I'm off the fence. This appears to be the Bentley special, but £900 cheaper. It will look great beside my DMC Bentley edition. And I for one really enjoyed CB, so all you haters can go suck it. :cooltongue:

Hmm.

I suppose one can't judge a cover by its book.

Looks like I am sucking it then Zencat. CB put me off Bond and reading in general. I got far to excited with the announcement and build up.

Having browsed eBay, are these books really holding their value? The Indie one for example might even be cheaper than the original rrp.

No. Special editions like these actually tend to go down in value before they go up.

Mine arrived today. I'd been on the fence about it when it was announced, but ultimately I couldn't let it go by... and I'm so glad I didn't! I love it! I was seriously disappointed by the original limited edition, which amounted to the regular book in a flimsy box that was annoying to get open. I wished I hadn't gotten that one. No such wishes about this one! (I only wish that it had been the original and only limited edition!) It's really nice and incredibly satisfying. The bullet is really cool. I was worried that it could be irritating having a bullet hole through your book, but it's not. If one were so inclined, one could even read this edition straight through without being bothered by the hole. I definitely recommend getting this one if you've been on the fence about it!

I got mine from The Book Depository, and they've still got them in stock. In fact, they're the first seller listed on the Amazon listing selling the book new for the lowest price!

Starting to move. Regardless of what some may think of the book, Bond is usually a good investment.
