What about original characters in place for Q and Moneypenny from now on in?

Q is irreplaceable. I don't think anyone on this planet deserves the role, or could do it justice the way Desmond had.

Moneypenny will always be Lois Maxwell to me.

Don't get me wrong, it would be interesting to see a new Q and Moneypenny. But out of respect to Lois and Desmond, as well as the first series; best to leave them and have new charactes for the new franchise.

I know what you mean. Nevertheless, how can Q and Moneypenny be more important roles than Bond who is re-cast regularly?

I never meant to imply that the roles were more important. In truth all three roles are equally important and just as iconic. If my earlier post seemed convoluted, then my apologies. That wasn't my intention.

And having stated thus, I'm going to just say that I'd rather see two new characters completely.

No need to apologize, my friend. Personally, I´d rather have them re-boot both characters than give us two new ones, however.

Totally understandable. I think it's probable that we'll see Q and Moneypenny once more. It just needs to be brought in the right way I suppose.

I think Rebecca Hall would make a terrific Moneypenny. She was great in boith FROST/NIXON and in THE RED RIDING TRILOGY. A fine actress. Check her out. She is brainy and sexy.

You seem pretty sure of that one.

He's probably right about both. I know that when Daniel Craig was cast as 007, Samantha Bond said that was the end of her doing 007 anymore. As for John Cleese, yes i would like to see him back as Q. It's doubtful though.

So then, who was the guy w/the briefcase that injected 007 with a transmitter in his forearm in Casino Royale? All logic conveys that it must've been a member of Q Branch, no?

There is no doubt that Desmond Llewelyn can never be replaced. But, I believe that John Cleese was a good replacement. If a new Q was going to be brought in, EON couldn't have done a better job. I would love to see Q reintroduced to the series and I think Cleese would work well w/ Craig. If they do bring back Q and it's not Cleese than it needs to be somebody with a natural sense of humor (like Cleese) or the whole thought is pointless b/c the Q scenes were always good for a little comic relief.

Moneypenny isn't quite as necessary as Q in my opinion, but I do feel the character could work. They don't have to use the same "model" they used for 20 films (as in stereotypical scenes/dialogue). Integrating the character into the films w/ a modern twist wouldn't be hard.

Craig stated he'd like to see Q and Moneypenny return and now that this "new 00 agent" is supposed to be (from what I keep hearing) the James Bond we all remember, it's appropriate they be introduced into this modern era in a modern way.

EDIT: Wanted to note that if Cleese is not brought back I think Rowan Atkinson would make a good "modern era" Q. Though, it's probably unlikely.
