That's disappointing, I think the reason for that though was the first movie didn't make as much profit as they would have liked. I mean I guess that makes sense considering there was already a swedish version, but I loved this book and this was a good film adaptation of this book.

Totally agree, Iceskater!! I too hope the sequels are only on delay, as was the last official word from the studios.. I really don't want this to become another "Golden Compass" situation..Coincidently, I just happened to watch Craig's version of "...Dragon Tattoo" last night again...it's always great to compare it with the Swedish version to see what they included from the book that the original movie didn't.

The 2011 version was so well done IMO, it just leaves you wanting more. I hope they don't leave the fans hanging on this cliffhanger if or not they will be made for to long.

I know I hope they release info on the sequel! They can't just stop making these movies especially to the fans of the books like me. Though the first book in the series was clearly the best.

Great movie, Daniel Craig is brillant and such a very dark story.

Sweden is usually a discrete country on the media scene and in movies... Stieg Larsson has launched Scandinavia out of his frontiers with books and undirectly, movies.

All we know is; that the sequels have been delayed [1], don't have a director yet and that Craig doesn't know whats going on with it [2] although he does want Fincher to direct it [3][4] and now with the success of SF, perhaps Craig's stardom can bring new light into it, I feel as though someone is going to want to make these films. I just seen this on Wikipedia;

The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest
It has been announced that the other two parts in the Millennium series, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, will be adapted. David Fincher confirmed that he's working with writer Steven Zaillian on the script.

There is NOT a source but I read a few online article's from Aug that are claiming Fincher is still working on it and trying to figure out how to make it his own.[5][6] I Haven't lost all hope yet.

Oh that's sick! and yeah they definitely should make a sequel though it didn't do as well here as they thought. David Fincher has to direct it, he has that extremely evil and dark side and it comes out in his films. He is perfect for this.

Good and bad news.

Might THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE Kick Daniel Craig To The Curb??

Craig is turning into Connery.

One thing I'll definitely agree with while reading that article, which is to wonder how in the world was THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO a 90 million dollar movie.

With that said, I can't get behind the idea of Craig asking for a raise.  The only place he really has any kind of leverage to ask for one is with EON, as outside of the Bond films, he hasn't proven to be a box office draw.

Wonder if Fincher not returning is part of the reason he is asking for a large raise.

I find it a bit puzzling that the budget is $90Million, thought at least $40M-$50Million would be right. I really Hope Fincher returns. I too don't see Craig asking for a raise, it just seems a bit off. If Fincher doesn't return it's a shame. I just hope Craig and Mara stay on board. If the sequel is made, I think an October release date (in it's respective year that it's released, since who knows when it'll be made and be released.) is better than a December release date. A chance to make more money and recoup.

The 90 mill are due to Fincher taking 1 year to shoot a film others would have done in 6 months and it has to be seen, if the quality was less. IF DC really asked for a raise is not confirmed yet and might not be true in the end. Its a story, that one paper picked up and everybody else just repeated. So, unless a solid source like deadline confirms it, I take it with a huge grain of salt.

That just has to be proved. Right now, its only reports, that only have 1 source, which is not confirmed. So - take it easy. Its unlike Craig to be greedy.

While I am not sure if the reports about him asking for more money are accurate, perhaps they could work out some sort of back-end deal with him.

I just finished reading the books a second time and noticed that of all the times I've read about TGWTDT's poor release date no one mentions that the chapters have dates and the first chapter is December 20th. So it was a very appropriate release date. The second book also starts in December and the 3rd April.

I also don't understand the budget of that film, there aren't really any 'money shots', special effects or anything that looked expensive to me. The film rights maybe?...Who knows.

Your right Germanlady, I should take it for what it is right now; speculation. I wrote Craig off to soon, I was just baffled by the whole thing and got all up in arms about it.

I have seen too many false reports spread like wildfire to believe them too soon.

Like I said, it did cost that much, because it took Fincher 1 I repeat 1 year to shoot the thing.

Not a question of asking for a higher sum on Craig's side. He's just been starring in a one-billion-league film, his price is going up automatically. His management would be grossly negligent if they were not showing up with higher demands at the talks of any future projects.

If the budget is as big of a concern for Sony as the report makes it out to be, I'd probably start by looking for a new director to helm the project. THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is hardly a masterpiece. It's a reasonably solid film, but it was also something of a disappointment as well. It's not as if it was this massive critical and financial success that would justify spending 90 million dollars on what looks like a film that is much, much smaller in budget than that.

And I would also say that if Craig is indeed asking for a raise, then Sony probably should look to recast the role as well. If it came down between Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, Mara is far more crucial to the potential success of the next two films. I wouldn't be surprised if he asked for raise, although that has yet to be confirmed, based on the success of SKYFALL, but outside of Bond, I would be wary of giving him one if I were a studio, as his other films outside of Bond have almost all been either flops or have turned in otherwise disappointing returns at the box office.

Yeah Craig doesn't need a raise, if anything Rooney Mara deserves it because her role in this movie was fantastic. I am surprised that it underperformed..

I for one, don't believe this story about Craig being axed from the role for one second... Craig was one of the biggest selling points for "...Dragon Tattoo" and if the studio wants to have "Fire" and "Hornet's Nest" be a success, they ABSOLUTELY have to stick with Daniel (both he and Rooney Mara are already signed up to star in the two sequels and there was some speculation a while ago they could be filmed back-to-back, which would be my hope..)

Well this is a rumour I didn't expect! You can't have 'TGWPWF' without Daniel Craig as Blomkvist, or even have it without the character himself!

I thought the movie made back enough money but could probably reduce costs other ways. Still, probably no truth in this so it's the waiting game for something more solid about the filming.

Me too - and you can't remove him from the sequels as he's crucial, just as much as Salander.

And don't think about replacing him with another actor, that's just a slap in the face to DC!

Well that is good to hear, I imagine their just waiting for Bond 24 to be scheduled so they can work around it.
