This is the General Non-Bond related news stories and pictures.

Any general non-Bond related news stories and pictures that are deemed by the CBn team not to warrant a thread of their own will be merged into this thread (if they aren't already rightfully posted here). The CBn team reserves final decision on "what's hot and what's not". Period.

It may also happen that a seperate thread on a "hot" topic will be merged into this thread when the actuality and news value of the topic has worn off (which may or may not happen after a few weeks).

This is not an invitation to increase activities in posting heaps of more or less interesting news stories (and especially not lifting entire articles including copyrighted pictures from other sites). Keep your forums tidy. After all, this is a James Bond fanboard. There are other discussion boards for every kind of topic out there on the net. Use them.

However, if you do feel the urge to share a certain piece of non-Bond related information, please be so kind to first think about wether a new thread is necessary or if it's sufficient to just post it in here, and act accordingly.

Just saw this online.
http://screenrant.co...bale-vic-13441/

"Take this one with a huge grain of salt.

There’s been virtually no movement that I know of on the Metal Gear Solid movie of late - but today someone sent me a picture they say they took at Sony Pictures in Culver City, CA this weekend of what looks like a movie poster for Metal Gear Solid.

And that’s not the craziest part…
The pic below shows a July 2011 opening date… and it features Christian Bale & Daniel Craig. I’ve included the original pic and a “tweaked” version to make things more clear.
Posted Image

What looks like metal sparks from a welding torch are actually reflections from surrounding lights and are not part of the poster.

I guess we’ll know soon enough if this is real if I get an email asking me to pull it.

What do you think… Craig and Bale in Metal Gear Solid? Have we gotten owned or could this be the real thing?"

Anyone on here know about this? Bad photoshop?
Bryce?? Zencat??
(Never around when you need them. B))

I'm calling shop. Last time I heard anything, they were still looking for a screenwriter. A poster would not be out by now, even if they had found a screenwriter between April and now. I severely doubt they would even have anyone cast. And God I hope it's a shop. Bale would be a terrible Solid, and much as I love Craig I just can't see him as Liquid.

Yeah, here's the last bit of official news I can find:

http://www.collider....s...7890&tcid=1

I swear, if Bale signs on, I'm boycotting the film. It annoys me enough they refuse to use David Hayter. Hayter looks the part if you clean him up a bit, and he's the freakin voice of Snake in every MGS. He's ideal.

TBH I dont know anything about the thing you see.
But yes, I can't see Craig acting with Bale in any film.

Usually you make the film at least partially before you even bother with making marketing material. Thus... fake. The Craig shot looks familiar and the Bale shot looks like it was stolen from Terminator.

Yes I figured it was but there you go. The Craig shot does look familiar now that you mention it. From Defiance maybe?

I think it's fake as well, and I'm glad that it is. I honestly couldn't see a Craig/Bale-starring METAL GEAR SOLID film being all that good, honestly. I don't think that either are right for any of the roles in the game series.

It looks suspiciously like the scene from QOS where he is picking the lock to Slate's hotel room. Obviously this is fanboy rubbish. Any film starring Bale and Craig would have made huge shockwaves all over the internet by now...doubly so if its one that's based on a videogame!

I think Craig would make a very fine Liquid. I'd prefer to see Thomas Jane as Solid, but Bale could've pulled it off too.

This poster is fake, because nobody makes teaser posters that amateurish-looking these days. Last real news I heard about this project was that they were talking to Kurt "Equilibrium" Wimmer to write it.

I'd love to get a good MGS film, but in a way I feel it's pointless to adapt them at all. You can't improve perfection.

Its definitly fake, but i would definitly go watch an MGS film with Daniel Craig and Christian Bale in it. Actually i'd go to watch any film with either of them in it, i like both of them as actors.

Especially video games as popular as the Metal Gears.

I think Craig would make a very fine Liquid. I'd prefer to see Thomas Jane as Solid, but Bale could've pulled it off too.

Eh, to each his own. I mean I'm sure Craig could do it, but I dunno, he just doesn't pop to mind when someone mentions Liquid. Okay, granted, that's Cam Clarke, cause he's an awesome voice actor and the voice of Liquid. But still.

I'd love to get a good MGS film, but in a way I feel it's pointless to adapt them at all. You can't improve perfection.

Agreed. I remember reading news about this around the time MGS4 was released and the only thing I could think was Why? Why do we need a Metal Gear Solid movie? The games are awesome enough as is. 3 and 4 were freakin amazing. And they're already cinematic enough. Hell, MGS4 alone, you can combine all the cutscenes into an over five hour long film that still makes sense, for the most part. A few small holes because of lack of gameplay, but it works.

Hollywood these days...I agree with John Wayne about Hollywood. Let's just leave it at that.

I think the best choice for Liquid would be Craig's fellow Bond actor Sean Bean. Right voice, perfect look, could pull of the arrogance and flamboyance the character has in the game.

Seeing how cinematic the games are, I think Hideo Kojima could do a great job directing the film himself. I would be first in line to watch it if that could happen. The Wachowskis would be perfect too.

There's also no way you can get a story as deep, exciting, unpredictable and emotional from a movie version. I am always moved by what happens near the end of these games, because YOU have been Snake (or Raiden!) for so long that you start to feel like the events are really happening to yourself. No way can a film pull that off.

I have actually not gotten to play MGS4 yet (can't afford a PS3 at the moment), but I have lost count on how many times I've finished number 1, 2 and 3.

Hayter's a great VA and does superbly as snake but have you seen him act? Heh, his acting is questionable.
I'm calling immediate BS on this. As a huge MGS fan, I'm up to date on what's going on and right now, a MGS movie for 2011 is a fanboy's pipe-wet dream. Hell, the 2 new MGS games coming out, MGS rising in paryticular will most likely be out in 2011. A movie is still along ways off.

Lost's Josh Holloway could pull it off too, if he's tired of starring in a crappy TV-show.

I've finally bought MGS4. Easily the best video game I ever played. Astonishing in every way. There's simply no way a film can be anywhere near this good.

For me, MGS4 is the worst game or should I say, my least favourite of the series. Too many retcons, way too easy and it was just too different, catering more to non fans than the actual fans of the series. Still, a great game in its own right but it's predecessors are much better games.

I think that there would be a lot of potential in a METAL GEAR SOLID film series, but just not with Christian Bale and Daniel Craig as stars. I think that there are much better actors out there than Bale that could do much better with a MGS series, and I'm not sure that there's a part in the series that would fit Daniel Craig (the only one that I could really see him playing would be Ocelot, but I'm not even sure that that part would be right for him).

I was thinking about that yesterday actually. Well actually I was thinking, "I bet it would be interesting to have Hideo Kojima direct a Bond film" which lead into me thinking about him directing the movie based around his own games. And it's certainly plausible. In the documentary that came with the special edition of MGS4, Kojima says he went to college to become a director, and he came in on the last day of his last year and announced he knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. When his classmates and professor asked what, he pulled out his copy of the vintage Mario game and said he wanted to make video games.

There's also no way you can get a story as deep, exciting, unpredictable and emotional from a movie version. I am always moved by what happens near the end of these games, because YOU have been Snake (or Raiden!) for so long that you start to feel like the events are really happening to yourself. Yeah, although the endings of MGS3 and MGS4 would still pack a really powerful punch.

I have actually not gotten to play MGS4 yet (can't afford a PS3 at the moment), but I have lost count on how many times I've finished number 1, 2 and 3.

Well then, I'll keep quiet about the game itself from now on, unless of course you've already had things spoiled.

I don't agree. I love the games, but just because they games feel somewhat cinematic do not mean that they'd exactly translate to good cinema. The games are terribly talky due their dependence on exposition (far talkier than film would allow), and often have dialogue/scenes that are often remarkably laughable.

We need a director other than Kojima, one who can see the good in the METAL GEAR franchise but really turn it into something bold and truly cinematic, otherwise we'll get another SILENT HILL - something that captures the aesthetic of the source, but carries with it all the flaws inherent to the original.

Now that I've actually finished the game, I would have to agree with you. The first half was great, but after the Shadow Moses mission was over, it all kind of when downhill, despite some fantastic moments. The ending was really dissapointing too (and ridicilously overlong), a true anti-climax after so many years of following this series.

I was thinking about that yesterday actually. Well actually I was thinking, "I bet it would be interesting to have Hideo Kojima direct a Bond film" which lead into me thinking about him directing the movie based around his own games. I'm glad he decided to make games in the end. The world of gaming needed somebody like him more than the world of movies. Still would love to see what he could do behind a film camera, though.

Yeah, although the endings of MGS3 and MGS4 would still pack a really powerful punch.

It's embarrasing, but I actually shed a tear during the ending of Snake Eater. Probably the best game in the series, IMO, although I absolutely love the madly ambitious Sons of Liberty too.

You might be right, thinking of it. However, IMDb lists their current choice of writer/potential director as Kurt "Ultraviolet" Wimmer (who admittedly also made the excellent Equilibrium), and I'm not convinced he is the type of director you suggest (his CV is very much mediocre).

I think that there would be a lot of potential in a METAL GEAR SOLID film series, but just not with Christian Bale and Daniel Craig as stars. I have to say Sean Connery would be a better choice for Ocelot on my eyes, though that would never happen.
I am sure Bale could pull of a fine Solid Snake. He was interviewed recently and didn't confirm any involvement in the project, but he didn't really deny it either.

Oh, and once again, Thomas Jane for Snake!

Isn't he a little too old.

I don't think Bean would be too old. My only concern is that he plays the bad guy in every second Hollywood action film, so it's not exactly an original piece of casting.

Pictured: Rare Lamborghini wrecked after bursting into flames on 'test drive'
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 12:32 PM on 07th July 2009

You would expect it to stand out from the usual city centre traffic under any circumstances.
But this 2005 model Lamborghini Gallardo drew a crowd when it pulled up outside a nightclub and burst into flames. Witnesses saw smoke billowing from the car - formerly one of only 400 in the country - as it stopped in Peterborough.
The driver and passenger leapt out and called 999. Firemen later said the £75,000 car's carbon fibre and alloy construction made it burn more intensely.
Posted Image
Smoldering: A firefighter inspects the wrecked £75,000 Lamborghini Gallardo

Colin Jeffery, assistant manager of the nearby Solstice bar in Peterborough, said: ‘It was engulfed in flames and there were loud popping noises all over the place as the windows and the tyres exploded.
‘There was no end of people gathered round, something like 150 people. A lot of them were stood there filming it on their mobile phones.
‘It’s nothing new to see a car on fire but to see a Lamborghini in flames is something else altogether. It was an unbelievable sight, to be honest. Quite surreal.’
Posted Image
Inferno: Firefighters try to douse the flames near a nightclub
Five volunteer firefighters spent about 20 minutes bringing the intense blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, although the car, a 2005 model, was removed from the scene by police who have begun an investigation.
Chief volunteer fire officer Tony De Matteis said: ‘It was a bit of an unusual one for us because it was quite different from the usual Fiestas or Escorts that we get called to.
‘Quite often, you get explosions with burning cars which makes it difficult for us to get close enough to fight the fire.
‘In this case, it was the tyres and the shock absorbers in the suspension that were going.
Posted Image
Powerful: The supercar, one of only 400 in the UK, can hit speeds of 195mph

‘This one was made worse for us because there is so much carbon fibre and alloy construction with high-performance cars, which makes it more of an intense fire than a standard car.’

According to Antony Hawkes, the chairman of Lamborghini Club UK, there are only 5,000 to 6,000 Gallardos in existence and only a few hundred on the road in Britain.
Brand new, the supercars sell for between £115,000 and £130,000, while second-hand prices usually start from around £70,000.
Mr Hawkes said: ‘It’s heartbreaking for whoever owns it - and looking of the pictures of it burned out is quite a distressing sight.’

(thankfully no-one was hurt but I have had this happen several times with some of my friends, not in cars like these though)...

Yeah, I'm one of those that shed a tear during the end of snake eater, the game was the perfect balance. I also adore MGS2, in fact it's my favourite of the series because it'd anbitious, deep, challenging and we get to see characters, particularly snake from an even better point of view that develops his character better than if we were actually playing as him.

I think you are mistaken here.
I posted this article originally in the General Discussion thread as it does not have a 007 connection, it was then moved here.
My question remains: why?
