I just wanted to make a thread of how much I enjoyed the Siena Chase sequence in Quantum Of Solace. I think it is one of the greatest action sequences ever, and especially when knowing that Daniel Craig performed all of his own stunts. The rope-slinging part of that scene is probably the best. Realistic, rough and brutal. Brilliantly done! B)

Any thoughts on this sequence?

...especially when knowing that Daniel Craig performed all of his own stunts.

Well, almost. B)

Anyway, I think it's easily the best action sequence in QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Fantastically shot and fully takes advantage of the excellent location.

On the bonus DVD, they say every stunt is performed by Craig B)

I'm bias in favour of the Italian locations in Quantum because I was in Siena and the Italian Lakes district in early to mid July last year...and even bypassed the distant marble mountains of Carrara on the drive down from Genova/Genoa to Firenze/Florence.

I get 'teary eyed' when I see the rising location-establishing shot as the battered and dusty Aston Martin enters Siena at the end of the PTS...and I normally don't get teary-eyed over anything. B)

The fall through the skylight into the scaffolding did look good.

It was a stand out sequence in the trailer, that's why everyone and their uncle was picking it apart in here. It's nice to see that in the film it's just another moment in a great chase.

Great sequence. Harrowing and classy.

IMO, the quickness of the editing was overdone during just the underground portions - there really is no time to take in the goth feel of the catacombs, and I don't see a need to take the audience into a state of such precariousness (as it makes sense to do for the car chase, for example) - but otherwise the whole bit, from start to finish, is a wonderful thrill and bar-raising for Bond.

that was a brilliant chase, kept me hooked and the jumps and stunts DC had to make were quite incredibly well done ;D

I somewhat agree. I think some of the quick edits work and some don't and there are some really good angles used in the underground portions that may have worked better if they were edited a little slower but I think the quick editing is a little troublesome in the part where Bond catches up with Mitchell on the roof tops and it would have helped if it was not as fast. However, I have a bigger problem with some of the editing of the non-action which at times seems it feels as though too many angles were put in to certain sequences ie the estabishing Talamone sequence that feels choppy because of the brief time spent on certain angles but these problems are very small and I still think its a great film for what it is a gritty spy thriller even if its not as good as the wonderful Casino Royale still its really good. I do think this sequence is one of the better action sequences but I do think the CGI becomes aparent in the rope fight portion but its still a good sequence and I also think the car chase and the dogfight (minus the freefall) are great sequences too especially the dogfight which actually feels like a dogfight in the way that Bond defeats the baddie through strategy rather than some gadget.

:::sigh:::

I'm with you, sir. The trip on which I hung out in Siena is somewhere near the very top of my life's hit list.
