You hear about Mexico and Brazil being very violent societies. I wonder if Panama is like that too?

For over 5 years now the local government & real estate developers have been in bed with Colombian terrorist groups and with Mexican cartel honchos. Over 2/3 of real estate projects have been funded with drug money and are uninhabited. Rich and poor people are kidnapped daily. Some just taken to ATM's in what they call express abductions. Other rich fella's are taken to the Colombian jungle that borders Panama (for weeks or months), demanding ransom money in the 7-figure area. The police force is a joke and it's heavily involved in all the high profile cases.
Political campaigns are financed by colombian money launderers. David Guzman is the Colombian Madoff. He was sponsoring the incumbent political party in Panama for the upcoming May elections.

On the surface it seems that it's a peaceful humid inferno, but underneath it's a very dangerous country, and I would advise anyone not to visit.
