Spoilers

I had a really lengthy review but I figured I could sum it up very quickly. It starts off great good car chase, music, action, and a little humour at the end. I also loved the titles. I hated the song by it went great with the titles I thought. From there everything went downhill. Every single convo between DC and Judi was boring and I felt no real essence in the scenes. Every action scene has to be over the top. The action would have been great except it didn't feel much like a James Bond movie. The problem was it wasn't James Bond action. It wasn't even Die Hard action. It was Jason Bourne action. You would have thought the second unit knows there is always something special about Bond action. The action didn't feel James Bond esque at all. Maybe that was due to that music . I felt it was great in CR not having the Bond theme, but it ended with it. We didn't need to hear the theme pounding but alot of more cues would have been nice. The rest of the acting for the most part was alright. Greene was a sissy guy with an almost sickening appearence. Medarno just a big hulking official was well played and I was just expecting him to slug Greene in the face at some point. Leiter could have had a larger role he was keen because he knew Bond was doing the right thing. Gregg Beam was alright and just lightened up the scenes he was in. Camille, very annoying but somewhat good looking. I really didn't find it necessary for her to be even in the story. DC could have gotten Greene by himself. Mathis returns for a few brief scenes which were very well played. Especially his final scene. The locations were all stunning though nothing to argue about there, especially because the director wanted you to see every possible angle of it. Fields although only on for a short time, was very very entertaining to look at. Here's the problem with her death being an homage to GF. first of all the scene is hardly about her it's about DC getting what he wants. The establishing shot isn't shown untill the end. It should have been DC alone in the room finding her just the way Sean did with creepy music playing. Damn Judi Dench just gets me so angry I can't stand her just bitching to DC who always looks at her like, 'it's alright at the target range your face is on my target.' The ending what a mess. Altough the classic line " I never left" amlost saves it. Fade to black the gunbarrel plays. I thought wait a second that was the new James Bond movie. Oh I thought I was watching Mission Impossible meets Jason Bourne acting like James Bond.

What I liked:
Daniel Craig
The titles
Mathis Lieter Beam Greene Medrano Fields
The PPK
The locations
The car chase

What I didn't like:
The music
The editing
The direction
Camille M
GF homage
Gunbarrel at the end
The water supply plot

If your criticism of the action scenes is that they weren't believable, perhaps the James Bond film franchise isn't for you. I'm not sure how you can criticise the believability of the action, and then say it was too Bourne. There lies a contradiction.

Not exactly it wasn't believable. I guess you caught me. I meant it was to Bourne Esque and it didn't seem like James Bond at all.

Ok, fair enough. I'm sure others will wish to dispute this though!

Good review. I agree with most things apart from your comment about Medrano. I don't think he was well played. He's the type of villain MacGyver would run into (in a bad episode).

Damn Judi Dench just gets me so angry I can't stand her (...)

Now we are two.

What was wrong with the music? Quantum's score was clearly the most developed and mature of Arnold's efforts, while at the same time being melodically strong when necessary - a clear reflection of the blending of styles Forster was trying to achieve on screen. And ultimately, that's a composer's first obligation. To accentuate the content on screen.

Say what you want about problems with the script, the score was bloody phenomenal.

I agree to disagree. I just didn't like them. They just sounded like rough action music and didn't have any essence of Bond at all.

Fair enough. I thought it reeked of Bond essence, and was just as stylistically referential to Barry's early work as Casino Royale's score was.
