Fourth Young Bond novel now available

I just got the final cover art for the US hardcover Hurricane Gold. Looks awesome! I'll have it up on the site within the hour. Stand-by.

Nice stuff, zen! It might actually be my favourite of the lot.

Above and beyond the best cover for the series yet. A stunning piece of artwork.

Well, this is pretty good, but I like the prototype art a lot more.

I like them equally. The final is much more dynamic, and I really love the explosive golden light. But I also liked seeing Precious and the pyramid on the prototype (pyramid is still there, just harder to see). On the prototype, the location was kind of the hook of the book, whereas action/danger is the hook on this cover. Both good in their own ways.

It's okay. I think I like the Precious one better. Regardless, Double Or Die still has the best cover.

Nice-ish cover. Not crazy about the Yu-Gi-Oh influenced hair.

Its OK just as an image, but I'm sure I'd like it more if I was actually holding the book in my hands.

I like it. I'm reading Hurricane Gold right now so it's fitting.

Three new covers all with an adolescent public schoolboy being approached from behind by an older male.

Hmm. I wonder what they were thinking?

I wonder what I'm thinking.

I was actually hoping the Hurricane Gold cover would feature Mrs Glass. Probably makes what you're thinking slightly better. But only slightly.

The SilverFin cover in particular is a little...yeah. It crossed my mind.

There's something undynamic about all of them, composition-wise; everything just seems so far away and flat. And then the actual titling and typography is just plonked on top... I dunno, it's nicely rendered but not quite right. I'm not saying that I could do any better, but I do find them a bit disappointing. They're more exciting and more in-keeping than the UK covers at least.

A little item re the US Hurricane Gold from my site.

In other news, it looks like Young Bond author Charlie Higson will not be traveling “across the pond” for the release of Hurricane Gold next month. Charlie is currently busy with his new non-Bond series for Puffin, as well as television projects in the UK. But it is possible he’ll return to the U.S. for the release of By Royal Command in May 2010.

Got my Hurricane Gold hardcover today from Disney. The Walker art looks even better than it does in the pic, and I like that they did the boards in brown (with gold lettering on the spine). Very sharp. B)

Interview with Charlie re Hurricane Gold.
http://youngbonddoss...icane_Gold.html

This is not a new interview. I've excerpted Q&A about HG from our 2007 CBn interview. But it really works nicely now as a HG specific conversation. And I love that pic by Anton. Very Hurricane Goldish.

Hope you enjoy it. I’m sure you will. While it’s bottom two in the series for me, there’s never a dull moment with the breakneck pace.

I think it's the book that most shapes James Bond. What he goes through is horrendous. It's his journey through Hell. Good stuff.

Decided to put OHMSS on hold and pick up HG. I'm about 50 pages in and I'm loving it already. The Avenue of Death was chilling and screamed of Dr. No. Great stuff, I may have to order BRC when I finish!

I was having dinner with a hardcore Bond fan/friend who has, so far, been very cool to the Young Bond series (he "hated" Blood Fever). He said he loved HG. He thought it was the best YB novel without a doubt, and that it was very Bond. It really worked for him.
