Arguably one of the least favourite title among fleming fans is 007 in new york. I honestly don't feel one way or the othrer if it becomes a title great if not that's fine too.

But we already have 2 threads one based on bond 23 being set in new york one asking if it would be ok as a title. I'm asking a different question.
If they said 007 in new york is bond 23 how much of the film would need to be based in new york? Would it just be New york city? could they use upstate new york as well as New York City as fleming did for i belive One of his novels.

Can there be other locations in New york could 007 be in other locations in say 20% of the film? How much Wiggle room for locations is there with a title of 007 in new york?

I'd be a bit angry that out of the remaining Fleming titles they would pick up the one who sounds like a Saint story (The Saint in New York)

:(

lol oh I know it's everyone's least favourite. But I don't think it's half as limiting as people make it out to be.

A significant portion would be one way to answer it (without giving any real time commitment).
Another would be with the question: How much of Casino Royale actually took place in Casino Royale?

I don't think the title calls for the whole film to be set in New York, but either the first act (just after the PTS) or the climax should be there to justify it.

Having said that I have no desire whatsoever for them to use this title. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Fleming may have been a great thriller writer who came up with many memorable titles over the years, but he was really phoning it in when he came up with that one.

Oh, you mean that if a story has "... in New York" in the title, will it be location-constricting?

I don't think so.

Not if most of the story is set in the said location.

If James Bond had a Saint-like pattern to its titles, well QOS could be "... in Bolivia" (sorry, but I can't even bring myself to write 007 in that title), since in spite of having Bond going other places, the 2nd and 3rd acts are indeed in Bolivia.

It would be a bit pointless to call a story "00...8 in New York", and then have it featured for a few of minutes only.

Well, Jason only spent like the last 10 minutes of his movie in Manhattan, and we know EON must eye that franchise closely for tips. So I'd say if the last bulk of the film occurred in New York City - or, as you've suggested, New York State - then it should be fine. They could get the Falls in there, do the Saratoga bit from DAF, and some stuff in NYC, and I think they'd be able to fill up quite a lot of the movie with New York.

I'm thinking to the past films...could we have called any of them "007 in [insert name of significant city/state/country/territory in story]?

Goldfinger as 007 in Kentucky? Maybe :(

Or instead of just having locations in the title, what if they had gone the "Saint-route" all the way.

Instead of You Only Live Twice, we'd have something like "Ninja James Bond" (I think I'd actually pay to have such an action figure).

There was a ninja James Bond Jr. figure if you're interested.

Ir's a fine title for the short story, but it is NOT a fine title for the movie. It wouldn't work at all, and it wouldn't make sense if he globetrotted as usual. And if he didn't globetrot, people would get pissed off.

I'm sorry guys, but 007 in New York is the worst idea for a Bond film title out there. It's just STUPID to call a movie like that. It sounds like a children's book.

This is the only Fleming title that sounds too Leslie Charteris. I'm not saying this is a problem, but it's far too 'specific' a title.

I'm one of those who wants as little New York as possible.

We've already seen NY in The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla, Cloverfield, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and every other Woody Allen and Robert De Niro movie etc., so why do we have to have it in a Bond movie?
I'd rather discover new places, or new sites in old places. Does New York have any iconic new buildings we haven't seen on film before? I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
