If it was any of the writers I'd say it was just pulled out of the air, and I wouldn't give any of them that much credit for it. If it was either Micky G or Babs then perhaps there's a remote possibility.

Cary Grant's real name is Archibald Leach which is suspiciously like Bond's cover name in CASINO ROYALE, Arlington Beech. Anyone else think there is anything to this?

That is definitely a possibility. I never looked at that before, but as far as I know Cary Grant was one of Fleming's top choices for Bond, although in the end deemed too old to play the role (leading to the casting of Sean Connery), so it's probable that the producers wanted to pay tribute to him through the name.
I thought the only reason Grant didn't play the role was not because he was too old, but because he wouldn't agree to a multi-picture deal? I think they mention that in the DR. NO documentary.
