The first thing i have to say is i went into the cinema with very, very low expectations after reading a lot of negative reviews on CBN and elsewhere.
However, i left with a massive smile on my face after i realised QOS is in my top 5 Bond films. It was awesome!

Daniel Craig is ON FIRE. His performance in this film outstripped his performance in Casino Royale by far. He was allowed to show such a range of emotions, from sadness to when Mathis lay dying in his arms, to strutting around the hotel room saying he can't find the 'stationery' to the delicious Fields.
M has such a big role in this film too, and her developing relationship with Bond was something i thought i would not like too much - since in the previous films Bernard Lee's M was always a stern and detached figure- but i found i didn't mind it all. The look on M's face when Bond took out those men in the lift and came back out to M on the landing was priceless!

Unfortunately, the one bad thing about the film was the lack of plot. The story really took a back seat, replaced instead by M's incredulity at Bond's habit of killing every possible lead. Despite this however, i was so over-awed at how so :(ing suave and deadly Craig's Bond was, i found i didn't care that much. In addition, i did not like the free-fall sequence at all, and the boat chase scene could have been cut out all together.

Matieu Almeric as Dominic Greene was an inspired choice for a villain, but i was surprised at how little screen time he was given. Still, his bulging eyes were scary enough, and the thought of him walking through the desert at the end swigging motor-oil was a hilarious notion.
Olga Kurlyenko as Camille was gorgeous. Enough said!

And all this 'lack of humour' nonsense...were the critics watching the same film?! There were numerous bits where the audience laughed at some smart quip Bond made, or an action (like when he knocks that thug of the motorbike, giving camille to a bystander saying 'she's seasick', banter with fields, etc etc).

The art direction was superb, the script was sharp and the acting top-notch. Marc Forster clearly knows what he's doing.

All in all i would give this film a 9/10. I found i didn't mind that the gun barrel was at the end of the film, it seemed to fit perfectly after Bond says 'I never left'.

Quantum of Solace doesn't try to be bigger or better than CR. It is an action-packed follow-up worthy of being up there with my favourite Bond films TSWLM, GE, GF FRWL, and Casino Royale.

James Bond will return.
